Dungeons

Hi all i posted this in the Q&A thread but wanted to get a more general idea of what everyone else thinks.

I would love there to be dungeons and such in the game...

The 4 races each have magnificent architecture and surely there are temples, mines and huge deserted cities etc leftover from before the attacks??? There could also be Kami Forests where the haters could go and hunt kamis, Huge Karavan Factories/spaceships stealing life from the planet for their opposing factions to go. Even Kitin nests down in the roots for example, goo infested caves in the hills/mountains to explore.....i just feel the world could be soo much more than it currently is.

I always loved the dungeons in other mmorpg's such as the Ants Nest in Lineage 2 and the many dungeons to explore in Anarchy Online and would love the chance to go on a huge dungeon crawl with my guildies and buddies on Atys.

I think I heard about something of an intention to add dungeons into the game within the next few months somewhere, not sure tho :)

I, for one, really hope that 'Dungeons' aren't added, or at least that they're implemented a different way.

Instanced dungeons where everyone does precisely the same thing as each other would be a betrayal of Ryzom's open-air nature I feel, as would special 'loot'.

Done as shifts in the landscape, the emergence and disappearance again of cities, temporary portals to temporary areas and so on it could work a lot better but your typical dungeons have about as much place on ryzom as an indian headdress on Captain Picard.

Thanks Grim,

Thats what i wanted some opinions from both sides of the fence on this, i do agree they will have to be implemented with respect to the nature of the game, but i dont think they should be ruled out totally.

Like the ideas though.

Cheers

Doesn't Picard's interest in archeology make that quite feasible?

All that you have suggested, grim, seems like "dungeons" done the right way! Instanced areas where players follow a small planned adventure. Doesn't matter whether the remains of a city are discovered in an unstable cavern in the Underspring or new temporary areas; it's just a reworking of the good old fashioned dungeon. I think.

And I'm all for it!

just add more more stuff sooner rather than later

One answer could be a variation on what has been happening recently - an even to 'unblock' the route to a new area (the recently uncovered portal between Fyros and Zorai is a good example). All you need to do is make the destination a little different, and I agree that the addition of things like deserted cities would be very cool, perhaps even the basis for new rites missions...?

Some parts in this game are open sources. I am looking around nevrax.org to find out what parts, maybe some programmer nutcases can build the dungeons and then contribute them?

I would like to see 'dungeons' in some form or another, appropriate to the setting. Certainly Kitin nests (ala starship troopers - the book not the movie) would be an obvious choice. As too might be bandit dens.

Other dungeons might be previous civilisations of this world, after all we are new here, but the kitins might have wiped out several previous civilisations (including maybe the Kami and the Karavan).

I would hope tho that these new areas would be designed for the numbers playing, ie single groups. It would be pointless having a dungeon that requires a dozen people as there simply arent that many people on in my time zone (slight exaggeration but you know what I mean).
