One would think the in game map would be the first thing players would find and learn to use, but not always. Here then is a quick primer for using your map.
Press m to show/hide your map.
There are four buttons at the top left of the map window:
Left facing arrow, this button shows the map above your current detail level (see mainland below). + button zooms in, - zooms out and the triangle button centers the map on your character marker.
Refugee Island/Mainland
You can right click anywhere on the map to set a user landmark at that location.
If you want to know the names of the towns/outposts on the map, zoom in until you can see the green flags at each location, place your cursor over the flag to see the location name. Zooming in will also reveal sub-region names (mainland only).
Mainland
If you place your cursor over one of the cities/outposts on the mainland map, you will see the area high-lighted. Click on the high-lighted area to see a city detail map. Click the left arrow described above to return to the continent map. At the continent map, you can click the arrow again to see the entire world of Atys. While on the world map, you can then click on any of the continents to open that continent map.
Use your compass
After you set a user landmark on your map, you can target it in your compass by either clicking the purple landmark flag on your map or by right clicking your compass and selecting your landmark from the landmark menu. You can also select any of the predefined landmarks from the same menu or clicking on a green flag on your map.
Knowing how to use your maps and compass will keep you from becoming too lost while exploring and will help you return to that secret stash of magnificent materials you just discovered.
