Constant freezes.

Okay, its getting a little ridiculous. I'd like to get some confirmation, IS there an issue with ATI cards running the game?

Specs
AMD Athlon 2800+
ATI Radeon 9500 NP 128mb
1 GB DDR
WinXP Pro SP2
K7N2 Delta nForce2 mobo/with onboard audio.

I've tried running the game at lowest on all settings, but to no avail, the game still crashes before i can get to doing anything. Its so random too, it happens anywhere on the map. I'd appreciate any help on the matter, as I would love this game so far, and would be sorry to leave it. I'm going to try figuring out this OpenGL method meantime a fix is worked out.

If anymore info is needed, just let me know, i'll gladly provide it. I wouldve pasted my dxdiag info, but i know that would just be too long of a post.

Thanks

Hello,

Currently, ATI cards can be a bit finicky, but switching to OpenGL seems to resolve many of the issues players have experienced. To switch to OpenGL:

Run the Ryzom configuration tool ("Configure The Saga of Ryzom" on your desktop) and switch from "Auto" or "Direct3D" to "OpenGL" in the Display options.

Oof. Well, after experiencing freezes even after i switched to OpenGL, I decided to try wipin my OS and starting fresh. After a fresh WinXP and Ryzom install, the game still froze. So, I'm pretty much sidelined until there is a fix in place. I just hope I dont have long to wait ;)

make sure you're using the latest ati drivers. i think 4.9's the newest.

overheating is also a cause of a lot of lockups. you may want to try to run the game with your case door open and possibly with a fan blowing in it. if the problems go away then you need to look for better cooling solutions for your system like more/better case fans, better heatsink for your video card or processor, etc.

i've run the game on my laptop w/ a 9600 mobility with no problems at 1280x800 res and hi-qual.

Yep, latest everything. 4.9, DX9.c, latest nForce, SP2. If this is in fact, a hardware problem on my end, its flabbergasting that this game, and NOT Doom3, would be the one to break its record. I'll try opening the case. It has also been suggested that i reintall DX9, so I'll give that a whirl later today.

I'm running it on an 800mhz, 768 RAM, GeForce 256 machine without near the problems Mez is having.

Oi, the more I think about it, the more the heating problem makes sense. The way it goes no, I can play for a while until I hit a certain point, where it begins its freezing spree. This could be interpreted as a the gradual heating of the card. But I find it odd that no other game has done it in the past, and also the fact that I have an additional fan fitted in front of it on the PCI slot.
Heh, I still got nothing.

BTW, anyone know how to reinstall DX9.c? I try running the install and it goes straight to finish saying that I already have the files installed.
