Currently, I am wrestling with a dilemma. I've mentioned it to some of my guild mates so that they are aware of my concern. I thought it important enough to post here too.

What it boils down to is a great dissappointment in the current direction of the game.

The amount of roleplaying bigotry, combined with the PvP hate and vengence talk, is seriously disturbing. The ganking has begun, the smack talk is escalating, and vendetta attitudes are forming. I've seen this before in other games and it tends to spiral out of control. Eventually, in the other games, the server dies as players who are looking to play a fun game seek elsewhere.

A poll of Ryzom players showed that two thirds wanted either no PvP, or PvP restricted to Arenas. The current trend of the game may drive out these players, and leave an empty shell.

The Prime Roots was the jewel in the games setting. It now appears to be in the process of becoming a pigs snout.

Unfortunately, we are labeled by our guilds. This makes it personal to me, and to others. I wish to choose my own friends based on respect, mutual interest, and mutual values. I dont want to be targeted because of some label over my head by someone who doesn't even know me. I prefer to not receive smack talk from teeny punks and emotionally unbalanced semi-adults. I don't want to be ganked because someone doesn't like a person in my guild, or if I am caught alone harvesting.

If I cause someone to be antagonistic to me I will take responsibility for my own actions.

I choose to play this game for fun. I don't find fun in bigotry, hate talk, vendettas, and ganking.

On the other hand, I have no problem with PvP in an honorable system, in consentual circumstances. I can see where some players would wish to test their skills against others in combat. I wish them well, and hope that they find the enjoyment that they seek.

I don't expect my guild mates to change their actions because of my concerns. They should play in whatever way seems right to them, as should I. I will not let the expectations of others to decide who I will like, or dislike. This for me is a personal choice.

What this is leading me to is the need to make a set of choices.

First, is it better for me to return to my solo guild of 1 to minimize the effect of the current server attitudes? I would sorely miss the frequent contact with the friends here in my current guild. If this is the right path for me, I would hope that these friendships still continue.

Second, if the current trend of the server continues to worsen, at what point do I leave the game? Hopefully, Nevrax will step in before this point is reached, but this is not assured. This decision will take more time to resolve.

I have traveled this world a fair amount. I have seen, first hand, the effects of real life ethnic cleansing, real life bigotry, real life hate. It is the scourge of humanity. I do not need it in the game I play.

This is what I am wrestling with. I post this here so that Nevrax and other players are aware of the effect of the current trend.

Whetever solution I eventually select, at least the concerns behind it will be out in the open.

Well let's see... despite your desire to portray your problem, you also included your own little name-calling. Aside from that, a very well written post which I will try to answer.

A great majority of what you see on the forums (particularly including DT, Raynes, and anybody in Gladius Jenae, a fair amount of Comitus Praetorian and several others) is actually called roleplay. Now, there's a problem with a spike/sinful debate, that's not exactly RP - that does consist of what you are concerned about.

However, there is very little else that I have seen that would pose even a minute problem (with the exception of the 'is PF neutral?' debate, that seems to be over now).

So while your fears are understandable, especially considering other PvP games like WoW, Shadowbane, etc... they are - at "the moment" - just a bit unfounded.

If you fear that the actions of your guild is going to make you (as being a member of the guild) a target, then you have a couple options.

1) stay out of PvP areas.
2) only go to PvP areas when you have guild members to protect you.
3) leave your guild and become an army of one.

As for griefing/ganking - I haven't seen it yet. As a matter of fact, the closest thing I've even heard to that is dragging aggro mobs to the cities on your mount - that's not even PvP area.

EDIT: I want to stress that I, and many others, feel that Ryzom has a very mature playerbase. Name calling and true problems are few, and even heated debates TEND to stay mature (FEW exceptions - and a few particular posters I know well enough to ignore what they say), but in the most general of generalities, this community is simply too mature to let things devolve into "well i don't like your name so I'm killing you". Some, however, WILL decide that since your Tryker, your default a Karavan follower (this is true) and PvP you - and Zorai for Kami just the same.

Dont know where you got 2/3rd from. Only 5 peeps said that they did not want PVP. 23 peeps say PVP is ok but they dont want it open PVP. 27 peeps want pvp in arenas and 19 are cool with whatever way pvp goes.

5+23=28 against most types or all of pvp
27+19=46 for some type of PVP

28 people is not 2/3rds sorry m8 maybe you ment something else.

Now i know all are going to say i am just provoking him or whatever but im not i am just stating fact. But recently i have been told i lie....o well. I state what i see and this is it. PVP will be part of the game. Faction war will be part of the game.

It does not say we are all lovey dovey or that everyone get along it says we are rivals. Army/Navy are rivals and dang they sure do talk allot o trash to each other and then on some days they get together and fight it out in a area they can called a football stadium. Wow PVP in real life who would have tought of it.

Also not all roots are PVP. Only one. Its not like i can go to matis and wipe noobs at yrk or anything. PVP at this point in the game is a thing that you choise to do if you want by coming into PVP areas. If you dont wanna PVP dont come into the PVP areas.

I dont know what everyone has been hearing about CP or whatever. I dont really care what anyone or guild thinks of me or my guild. We are going to play the game the way want to. PVP was givin to us by the devs and we intend to use it. If there was no PVP what would be the point of having 2 sides kami/karavan as rivals. I know of only like 5 peeps we have killed in the PVP areas when on a patrol(this figure does not include people who have been killed in staged or arranged PVP fights, and yes there are guilds staging PVP events kami and karavan working together to make PVP and player content.) Its not like we go around ganking anyone and everyone we feel like. I have rules of engadgement that my guys follow. They know what the rules are and they follow them.

Outside the PVP areas CP talks smack and gives karavan peeps a hard time sometimes. We crack on ya by calling ya whitey or say go home to ya if your in our lands. Its all in good fun i think. We still rez people who get killed by a mob regardless of your race or faction. We hunt with karavan sometimes and dig with them as well. Just playing the game m8. If you cant take this i wonder what you will do when outpost come and PVP and faction war really begans.

Agreed. Back when PvP was yet to be implemented but being discussed, all of these things were predicted by veterans of other games. Sad to see these predictions coming true. If the trend continues, I fear SoR will lose its best quality, that the majority of the player-base is friendlier and different in character and behavior than those of other PvP containing games. At that point, why play SoR at all? The larger player-bases in the competition's games will give one far more opportunties for nastiness. (Hint to those that thrive on such.)

My desire is to see SoR find ways to be inclusive of the PvPers and nonPvPers and the occasional PvPers while limiting the nastiness outlined above. Limited areas of PvP is the current approach, although there are those that try to circumvent this by training aggro. Hopefully the powers-that-be will deal harshly with those who persist in this, or other violations of the EULA. I for one would welcome aggressive and public actions by the GMs to nip this trend in the bud, before it gets totally out of hand. Report harrassent whenever you feel it; let the GMs sort it out.

Roleplaying bigotry is a harder one. I also want SoR to be inclusive of all the levels of RP, from none to total immersion. A possible approach here would be to add a dedicated Roleplaying chat option to the chat tabs. RP chat would appear in a distinctly different font from the current voice bubbles, or in some other way be distinctive. And an easily toggled ignore RP function could be used to screen it out when it became annoying, or worse. Once again, if it feels like harrassment report it...etc. RP has been used as an excuse for griefing and harrassment all too often. Enough reports and perhaps some guidelines will be made clear.

I sympathize with your position, and share your concerns. There have to be ways to keep SoR's early friendliness and still make it inclusive for all but the griefers, gankers, and bullies.

Ort, I would miss you if you left =(

There are a lot of people feeling the same way you do right now, and some of them are also talking about quitting.

Even though I am fine myself with open pvp areas and with being exposed to attacks in the prime roots, I do have some sympathy with those who feel that the faction based rp/pvp is beginning to resemble real world bigotry and hatred.

I hope there's a balance achieved here soon between the conflict oriented players and the cooperative player types, and that the players who do not find the faction based and race based conflict appealing, will find other aspects of the game that hold their interest.

Nevrax needs to release some significant new content fairly soon if they want to keep the content and pve oriented players interested.

I dont get ur post really, most of what i have seen and know with few exceptions are people having fun or trying too and they do sso by roleplaying and trying to advance the game story and the relations in it. I know for a fact that the people here with a few exceptions are mature and are just trying to have fun so i don´t get ur post unless you don´t really have a clue whats going on ;P (well i don+´t either but find it fun hehe)

I guess its about how each people takes what goes on with the game and with the people in it, u can take part in it or watch and have fun doing either or not, its about choices...

It's the effect in your eyes. In my eyes I see that game finally becomming what it should of been months ago.
