Material Specialization with Resource Tracking

I discovered something last night that may help those of us that have had problems getting resource tracking to work with the material specializations.
A couple of weeks ago, I bought Minor Amber Prospection. I added that to my resource tracking and ran outside Fairhaven to give it a try. To my dismay, it told me I was within 1m of amber no matter where in the field I used it. If I left the field, it would simply lead me to the nearest deposit of ANY type. At that point I logged a bug and cast the skill aside.
Then, this past weekend, my friend was looking for amber in Fount. I figured I'd give the skill another try and it worked perfectly. I assumed the devs had fixed the bug in one of the patches since I got the skill.
At that point, I went ahead and trained in Bark Prospection and made a tracking skill with it. When I went to test it out, I got the same result I did when first using Amber Prospection with tracking. It led me to the nearest source of ANY type. Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed at that point.
Then, the next day, I gave the bark tracking another shot and it worked perfectly.
So it seems there's some kind of disconnect between training in the skill and when the skill actually works. I'm guessing it's just a matter of relogging. Perhaps there's something in the client that initializes what skills it thinks you have and it doesn't register the material specialization until you relog.
In any case, for those like me that trained in one of these skills and then cast it aside when it appeared not to work, you might want to try bringing out that skill again and seeing if it works for you now.

Was with Turenkarn (GM) last night and he was using specialisations to look into my bug report on tracking, we found that it wasnt the tracking but the prospect afterwards (see euro english general).
All I can say is I find that tracking can be unreliable as can prospecting, overall I dont think that have ironed out all the bugs.

I read the post on the Euro-English forum you're talking about and this is an entirely different issue.
When I train in material specialization, if I go try it immediately after, it will lead me to the nearest source of ANY type. It has nothing to do with prospecting.
Both times I tried the tracking in exactly the same spot. One time it told me I was within 1m even though I wasn't. The next day it told me I was about 200m away and when I followed the tracking, it led me right to bark.

In that case do what I did, bug it and ask the GM to come with you to look.
They will try to repeat what you are doing, we tried several different material specialisations last night and it never failed once for Turenkarn.

The point is, they worked fine after I relogged. The did not work immediately after training.
I'm not saying they never work. I'm saying they don't work if I try them before relogging.

It seems that a long range prospection is screwed up. Tracking drops you within +/- 20 meters of a resource, but the long range prospection opens up the sources ether on the edge of the envelope or right next to you. I dont think I have ever gonnet resources on long range propspection (80m) between 60 and 20 meters. everything is ether closer or further.

I am trying to learn this tracking with mat specs and have recently started to wonder if it gets gummed up by my request it find say, choice bark, rather than just bark. I also need learn the difference when the game tells me matching as to specified. It seems matching would be what I want -choice bark- whereas specified may be -any bark- but to this point, admittedly early on for this char, I don't have a clue. lol
makes for a fun diversion, but not very efficient use of forage time :)

Once the material specialization starts working for me (i.e. after I relog), I have no problems using it in conjunction with things like "excellent only". I tested a tracking that was set up as excellent only with minor amber prospection (any material from group). This led me to a spot of Excellent Beng Amber in Fount.
Getting the prospect to pull up the mat is an entirely separate issue. It can be tricky sometimes if the node is in the middle of a bunch of other resources. In the case of the Excellent Beng Amber, it was an Autumn/Fair/Day spot so I had to wait to actually be able to prospect the mat.

Oddly I have never once had a problem with material tracking. It is one of the changes to harvesting which I think came off very well. Without knowing what may have been the issue I have seen no change to the skill.
It sounds to me like there was in fact amber within 1m of you, as well as many other mats. This is where the material specific prospecting comes on handiest. Back up 2 steps, prospect for only amber and I will bet a slightly used packer, only driven to church by a tiny Tryker lass on it, and amber will be there.

A lot of times when i use long range prospection I get "no materials blah blah",
then run around a few times or use spot prospection (short range) and i get the mats that had to be clearly picked up by the other one.
On more then one occasion I would use tracking only to discover 20 - 30 meter difference betweeen 'you are on top of it' and 'it popped up'
