Using Vendors for Storage.

It has become an increasing problem lately as more and more people use vendors as their personel storage space. They do this by putting large stacks of mats on the vendors and by asking insane ammounts, most times upwards of 2 million dappers for each mat. IMHO they obviously have no intention of trying to sell the mats and are just abusing game mechanics for their personel gain. I hope something is done soon to correct this situation. What do you think?

the funny thing about "exploits" and "abuse" is that it's already part of the gameplay, maybe has been since beta, then when people see others who are smarter than they are doing something unique, they call it an "exploit" or "abuse" , so in closing i say, " BAH!"

They should just make it so you can't take it back after putting up for sale. Or impose a 50% tax on items taken back after being put up for sale.

I do it and i will continue doing it until somone does something about storage wihtin the game... lets see:
a single mektub can hold 1000 mats that is 3000 mats all together
each sword - 33 mats per item craft
each armor 45 mats per item craft
Plus 2-3 sets of armors, two three different weapons, two three different magic amps, some items for future sales or for guildies... that renders 1 1/2 pakies unavaiable. That leaves me with 1500 mats; some of those mats are good and I'd like to keep them until i need them (another 1/2 packies gone)
that leaves me with 1 paker for mats, temporary storage stuff etc....
In addition -
If my pakies are located in natae, and I'm in any other city and I need to get rid of the loot i'm loaded with i have two choices - make my party wait for 10 minutes while i'm porting back and forth and waste 25k worth of tickets or dump it on the vendor at a price nobody will buy at ... i choose the latter.
Every online game had a house where you could store stuff (far greater numbers then current apartments), it had a bank available in every city... and most of them had free teleporting abilities (ultima online recall and gate travel for example).
With all that - give me an ability to mark/teleport to spots or give me access to all of my pakies in every town. Or give me a bank account where i can dump my stuff that i need to be accessible in every city and I will stop using vendors as a personal storage box

I do get an occasional purchase of my expansive mat stack
someone did it twice already
I also picked up a few good mats along the way when they were priced for sale but intended for storage - I say leave it the way it is; if people dont pay attention - there are consequnces for that.
All it takes is a price filter

I don't think they are smart or even being unique. I have known about the issue since the very beginning, when the vendors first went live. There is just this little thing that keeps me (and most honest folk) from doing things they know are wrong. It's called Integrity. Maybe you've heard of it?

How is it wrong? Where is integrity being violated? I wonder, how do you gain XP? And where exactly is the difference between finding an optimal way to kill a mob and gain XP vs an optimal level to manage your items?

In Ultima Online, the npc vendors charge a fee for their services. The fee is taken out of the player's bank funds each real life day, whether the player is logged on or not, and the amount taken is related to the prices of the items on the vendor.
This system does not prevent UO players from using their npc vendors for storage, but it does ensure that they must work to maintain such storage, by earning the gold they need to keep their npc vendors from quitting due to lack of wages.
I am not sure how this could be implemented in Ryzom, however. Perhaps a better solution to storage issues in this game would be to allow people to craft from their apartment inventory, increase the BULK for apartments, and perhaps allow us to buy beefier packers not meant for travel but for increased storage capacity (they would carry more bulk) and have us need to feed them to keep them from collapsing in the stables.
Perhaps npc merchants should charge a non-refundable consignment fee for any items over a certain bulk, as well.
In the mean time, calling the practice of using inflated prices to protect items stored on vendors from being sold is not an exploit. It's a clever use of the game mechanics, which were designed and implemented correctly but apparently could use some improvements.

As far as I remember, Ultima Online also implemented lock downs and secures inside your house. As well as allolwed friends / co-owners my keep has 4500 items that could have been locked down anfd 20(?) chests that could have been secured - even at prime time of my gaming (for over 6 years) with 2 people in the house, we could very rarely hit the limit. Was more painful with outher houses - but at least you had an option; in ryzom - you dont. I have cash that I can not spend, and no place to put the mats when i do bulk buy it.
Someone sell me another packie for 5 million. - I'll buy 10 of them.
