Foraging Missions

I could really use some help with the foraging missions. I have yet to find a single item for any mission. Does anyone have any advice on how to track down these elusive items?
Specific questions I have include:
Are mission mats always basic quality?
Are they ever found near normal mats?
Are they generally close to or far from towns?
Do you have to take a mission before you have a chance to find the item?
Any advice that anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

no

yes
Are they generally close to or far from towns?
varies
Do you have to take a mission before you have a chance to find the item?
no
They are however a right pain
I tried to do some as a low level harvester many moons ago and gave up after a while in disappointment. The only practical way to find them is to have a good range >30m, angle 60 or 90 and mulitple spot prospect action. Its possible with a friend or two to map out a zone fairly quickly although as mentioned above some of the mission items are mixed in with normal mats so u have to be quite careful not to miss them. The only upside is that mission mats are not season/weather dependent.
Maybe if you post where you are and what mats u need some kind soul will point you in the right direction

I'm in Matis, and at this point I figure it would be easier to find the mats, then track down the person who gives the mission to find it.

You know, I was thinking about this the last time I ran down some mission mats. Very easy solution for this problem.
Add another stanza to harvesting...minor and major mission mats specialization. Deposit tracking + this stanza and would make missions doable. Rather than 'I know where the mats are for this stupid mission' you could do them as they're intended. 'I need x mats, find them please'. What a concept.
Simple problem. Simple solution.

...well: at least in Dew Drops and Laken Isle mission mats are very well season- and weather-dependant ...

So, those of you who have found mission mats, how did you do it? Do you just search randomly, or is there something you do to increase your chances of finding them?

search randomly for me. tried to do a rites prospecting mission today. 3 lv120+ foragers in one zone, after 4 hours or so we called it a day having found none of mats we needed. Very suprising how many mission mats we found but didnt need
one small tip, at least for the witherings is the mats seem to be grouped together, so there will be 3 or 4 different types of mission mat in the same spot. and landmarks are good place to start (eg still waters in Cities of Intuition). Oh and scratch my not weather depentent bit above. on reflection utter rubbish

Usualy I find it while looking for materials to craft.
I have tryed to give quest materials that I had harvested previously and the mission giver didn't accept them.

When looking for mission mats, always notice where you find them.
They tend to be found in similar terrain, for instance in Zorai, one place to look is in "passages" (too vague a hint?).
