try to set UseMMAP="N" in the ~/.cedega/config

Personally i have hadd the oposite experince :) alsa works better for me.

On another note, if nothing changes in the version that is currently on ats, cedega is no longer usable, the version of the client that is on ATS uses some esoteric "Fiber" microsoft API ( that microsoft itself, recommends not to use) that is not supported by the current version of cedega.

But it seems that the latest version of wine might actually work... in a fashion...

A sad day for us linux users

It is with a sad heart i have to say this: Ryzom no longer runs under linux.

In this the latest patch (110) the devs have used some very Microsoft special implementation of Threads, called fibers, something that according to microsoft:
"In general, fibers do not provide advantages over a well-designed multithreaded application."

Cedega does not support fibers. And does not seem to have any plans on implementing them anytime soon.

It is possible to play under the latest version of wine, IF you got an Nvidia card, AND turn sound off completly, AND can live with constant lag spikes AND randomly auto repeating keys.

So unless there is a patch that removes the use of the fiber api's linux is now of.

I've been using cedega for month and a half to play Ryzom, aguess it is time for me to cancel subscription now. It was fun while it lasted.

then you got a corrupt file in the the data directory, i have had this happen to repeatedly the last days. So now i have a fresh pristine copy of the files to copy over when it happens, it seems Ryzom has a tendency to muck up it data files when it crashes in the wrong places....

Right, for those that cant live without their daily Ryzom/linux fix, there are some half good news: You can run Ryzom under the latest version of Wine, but with some severe restrictions:
  1. Need Nvidia card, since Wine has much better support for OGL than d3d, it basically mandates NVIDIA
  2. OpenGL mandatory, the D3D support in Wine, ain't to good.
  3. No sound, the realtime handling of sound is awfull, so much better with it off
  4. Laggy, there are some thread priority issues that makes movement very stuttery, and almost unusable in cities.
  5. Graphic isues, Expect graphic distortions, like shadows not working, and some missing parts here and there...
  6. Pointer/Keyboard issues, dont hold down a key and drag the mouse pointer outside the window, it will push a couple of 1000 key entries to the server, so lets say you are holding the forward key down, you will continue runnig for quite a wile, the only cure is either to run up against a wall and wait, teleport or relog.

But it works sort of, i've done a preliminary writeup here

So untill the devs get their act together...
