Do you know that the french GM of the best support ever seen in a mmorpg hardly master.. french? It his not his fault of course, but he wasn't the best people for this role... We can also talk about the "sane" fuzziness of the player/csr.

You talk about a hierarchy saying what can do and what can't do a csr, a hierachy that choose who can be a GM, Why ryzom.org can't have such hierarchy? It would be a different form of hierarchy yes, but their would be one. Ryzom.org is not anarchy!! as a républic his not Anarchy. You elect you're président (or the equivalent) and it's good, but elect the one who will rule the support hisn't?

We have the support of curent CSR (who agree to continue their job in our project) and former csr. I think this his a guarrenty too. If those csr (who know better than me, and probably you, about how jolt manage the support) think getting rid of jolt is a good thing...


For the guarenty of a community based projet, you should remember that Lejade and Lacambre are known french personalities in the free software community, I take that as a guarrenty. And the fact that Lejade left when he had a desagrement on what became nevrax plolicy (not so successfull at the end...) is another guarrenty. But i can understand your reluctance.

Finaly you all tolk about SOE and other bigs companys. Can i remember you that in the plan's proposal Thanys talk about 2 serious concurents. But it his theyr concurence who his serious, the concurrents themself we don"t know. I think that a company with the size of SOE would more than a serious concurent.

While I agree with some of your concerns (I posted about it a while ago, about botting, hacking, extended clients, etc.) there is one thing.

I would not go that far. For from what I can see, he deserves a chance and I do think he's doing it with good intentions (or not, who knows) but I am giving the benefit of doubt on that

The point that shocked me, was a bit the change of "status" in where they acknowledged that the original vision was not realistic and had little chance to raise enough money and to succeed, and that for that, they invited 2 new partners (investors, in the traditional sense). This was, of course, open to debate and players invited to withdraw their pledges. Apparently most agreed to go on, and no one seemed to object. I do thing this changes the scope. Maybe they realized it was somehow a wild dream and moved to a more realistic approach?

that's when things are a bit ... new. These 2 investors have 2/3rds. Xavier acknowledges [1] that the non-profit, community based foundation will not have a vetoing, and that the resulting company is at hands of the former. Good intentions, we all have some. They are renowned, well known etc. in France. good, but you can't blame us for expecting the worse? If after a month they decide to change their minds... at least the code will be free...

I can't help thinking that starting from a Free Ryzom campaign, it evolved to "Mr. Lejade and Mr. Lacambre will own 2/3rds of Nevrax assets with the help of players raised money". Sure, they'll take into account community wishes. Sure, players will have opinion and impact on the saga, from the non-profit org holding 33%....heard that before?

All in all, things will change. But if I decide to pay 10 Eur (-3 wrt current subscription fee) I expect a professionally driven game. If we have had the "Nevrax is small company, bear with it", what will we get then?.

They have the right to do as they please, and not agreeing with the approach is one possibility. At the end, we players end up voting as we best can... with our money

Oui, a priori on n'aurait pas de droit de veto (du moins je l'ai compris comme ça). Ce qui fait qu'effectivement, Valentin et Olivier pourraient nous imposer des choses s'ils sont d'accord entre eux. On peut proposer des modifs pour les statuts (pas pour la première propal qui est déposée, mais s'il y a un délai accordé demain, ce sera l'occase de les y mettre), ceci dit il faut bien peser les propositions pour pas demander la lune, les rédiger et les soumettre au vote ici

For the botting problem, i would make a comparison :
For OS you have the virus problem. Linux is an open source OS, you can think that it would be easy to make viruses for linux. Well you would be wrong. Theire a more viruses on Windows than linux. Why? Everyone can see the code and correct the breaks. And more rappidly that any micrsoft could.

I don't know is this can apply to the botting problem, but i think this should be considerate.

no, you cant compare those 2.

botting is not exploiting bugs in software, but automating different tasks.
for example forage/heal... currently, there is no reliable way to make dig/careplan/heal bot, with open source client, it's as easy as 2+2. you can even dig right mats and sell/put them to packer and while traveling from place to place, you can kill/avoid aggro.

hmm, what else...

ok, then. I think the staff will have to be reale attentive to that.

Well to be fair most of the time anyone mentions SoE it is normaly to pray that anyone except SoE takes over.

not SOE espécialy (I heard they did bad work on SWG) I was talking of company of the size of SOE in the world of mmorpgs
