Then of course we'd need the multiple threads debating what is considered good or bad etc. :P

bah these past few pages were boring! were'd all the fun go?

Neva, please try to understand - if the 'point' of our off-topic posts were to flame doustin, you'd have every right to feel that way and we would all be ashamed by ur words im sure.

however i _KNOW_ many of us were not posting to flame doustin - in fact you can see many posts (and argue it and i'll even quote them) where myself and others were sad at what had happened. Gurthgor was my friend - then we got into a little fight i'd rather keep private and lets just say things werent so easy-going anymore. that doesnt mean i hate him now -

The GMs did the right thing, i think (THINK.. i'm not enforcing my ideas, i'm putting out suggestions *sighs* )and this post has become very light-hearted and merry. we've all had a great time - and i don't see it as bieng at anyone's expense.

if you consider 'going off topic' to be making fun of the original poster - then that must mean every time a GM edits or deletes a post, they are putting down that player/poster. there is more than ONE reason to change topics - and very often its to keep a bad post from getting worse.

i'm sure any newcomer reading these posts would have gone from confused to a state of complete LMAO. these last two-three pages ruined the merriness of our thread - yes its OURS now - the communitys, we took it over and are using it as well as we can. so far only overall good has come of this.

if we DID hurt Doustin's feelings by going off topic - i'm sorry but if the above doesnt serve as enough of an explanation, then it must be impossible to explain.

*sighs*

a horrible night and it just got all that much mellow-er for me
*waves* night all

*smacks lips* Hmm, not an awful cocktail Jyudas, but my usual contains something with a little more kick, perhaps a dash of Nitromors might do it. I'll check :p

I second that hehe and, it is afterall General Discussions thread so people can go off the original topic as they please :P

On a side note, not closing the thread shows a freedom of speech (within the set rules). We are allowed to discuss what we feel as long as we do not do harm and vandalize the rules, yes?

forever wrote:It's nice you're all having fun at the expense of another player, and seemingly given the ok by a GM. This is the kind of thing that turns me off the most about this game/community. Doustin and Soulnatcher had a disagreement, this should have been kept off the forum and others should not have been involved.
I don't feel it is fare picking on anyone whether they are right or wrong. Threads like this give us all a bad name; just think what a new Homin would think after reading this. I think it would be best to have this thread closed or removed; it is now way off topic.

For the most part I agree with you.

Although this thread has had it's funny moments it did not start out in a light hearted way.

Hearing claims that it is a sign of the strength of a community that a community can transform a 'bad thread' on a serious issue into a joke.

Is that really the case?

Could also be seen as a weakness, the unwillingness to treat a difficult and serious issue in an appropriate manner. By side-stepping, ignoring or pretending the problem does not exist does not really help resolve that problem.

I know the old community fairly well and I don't think in general it's changed that much. Although it would be nice if some of those older players came back. The community here is generally mature and a good crowd of people, but this kind of thread does nothing to support that belief.

It would have been far better to have closed this thread at the start. And those that wanted a bit of fun in the forums start a new one with that goal in mind.

soulsnatcher wrote:The idea behind leaving this thread open was and still is most definitely not to target anyone in particular - in most cases they do that themselves. It was more to show that even when criticism gets pretty fierce and opinions differ, we don't just close and hide threads - we let everyone have their say - the only exception being when things get heated and out of control, like we saw a couple of weeks ago. Indeed this thread shows how a community likes to move away from a big problem and draw itself together again and have some fun. Any issues will have been dealt with directly with anyone involved and that will always remain private. Certain statements that were made publicly and were incorrect had to be resolved publicly however, and have been way back in the first few posts of this thread and the end of one related to it that was locked.
Well, soulsnatcher making fun of a poster isn't new. Remember the "bitterness of an ex csr" about someone that even if no longer CSR has been helping actual CSRs to have good animations and advices on the Lore.

The guy here is not so paranoid at all. A player of Aniro used all kind of manners to cheat (including using CSR character to extract larvas in kitins lair), and after one year without being really worried, he was banned on an exploit on Outposts. Players that were aware of his deeds were quite happy with the decision: at last! But the player came to Nevrax office and whined and cried. His fully-cheated character wasn't retrieved but he's been "unbanned" and even if he recently left the game somehow, he's still allowed to play on a different character, which name's an open secret.

So brag all what you want, soulsnatcher, on Aniro we have difficulties to ban a cheater. I'm happy that on other servers it's better, but it's not obviousness and players are right to worry. It's an important topic. If you think that this guy is a paranoid, ignore him or send him a PM. It's not like cheating in a MMORPG was not a problem and players shouldn't have to worry. Especially with a CS working with volunteers...

Q: how can you ban real life person from MMO ?
make new account and you have "reborn".

ban CC and/or IP ? both can be changed.

but to allow him continue for a year.... that's bad ;-(
