It is a nice idea, but I agree with you. Asigning too many wonders to the nanoseed makes it less special. It just becomes an easy way to explain everything and leaves out the invention of other ideas.
And since it isn't official it can go against (later) development of the lore, for instance that it is an alien seed implanted to control homins.

Thanks Troll and all for the RP tips. :) I do roll play for the most part but don't know nearly enough about RP etiquette.

if I roleplay ingame, it is a fairly spontaneous response to the people around me and their actions, never something I deliberately set out to do. I have an image of my ingame personality and how it would respond in such circumstances, and just use that to guide how I react.

And its lots of fun :)
If RP is forced, then maybe you are doing it wrong

RP is a somthing that should come naturally in my opinion..
I ever really set out to do it its just happens as a response to immersion and my char being an extension of my rl personality..
Xera is just like me..
and responds to quips abvout yubo's or DP much the same as I would about hospipe bans or crap football teams...
Xera swears like me and is daft like me but he is also respectful to others like me and tries to do his best for his friends like me.
All I do is inject my real life personality into my ingame character..
To be honest i wouldnt want to be anyone else..
Can this be considered RP?

I can't see how it's possible to RP without leveraging some of yourself. You'd have to disconnect yourself totally to play the role and I'm not sure even Oscar winners can do that. That's why they choose roles rather than do just anything.

Some very sound words in this reanimated thread.

For me Xera mentioned something very important; roleplaying is all about immersion, and being accountable for your actions. As soon as the numbers of the game mechanics take over and make your decisions for you then you have probably lost immersion, and you are no longer playing a character. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, I hasten to add, but talking numbers may erode another player's immersion, lead them into doing something that their character might not have done. Roleplay for me is about what you do, in context of the game, more than what you say, but that's probably because I don't have the fluency and poetry of language as do some :D Play to your own strengths ;)

Personally, I'd feel totally ridiculous trying to roleplay in a game like this, it's not for me at all.
If it's what others enjoy doing then that's fine, I'll never understand it, but that doesn't matter. Lets face it, all of us have hobbies or interests that some other people dislike and would never contemplete doing, we're all different, and it would be a very boring world if we weren't.

I wouldn't stick my nose into a roleplayer's business, and I expect the same in return. I expect rp-ers to leave me alone to play how I want to play in the same way that I stay out of their rp-ing.

What I do find annoying is when rp stuff is spammed in universe or region channels. Fortunately I've only seen it in universe a couple times and I suspect it was people on noob island.

If I was into roleplaying, I'd keep it within the group of people I was roleplaying with and leave everyone else out of it because that would be the considerate thing to do imo. Unfortunately not everyone is like that - I like my music LOUD when I'm in my car, but I turn it down when I drive through a residential area, others in this world either seem to think the whole neighbourhood wants to hear their bass box booming, think people will be impressed with it, or just couldn't care less who they irritate.

Since I've been on ML no-one has tried to involve me with RPing, if that's the way it stays then I'm happy :)

Why play an (mmo)RPG if you're not going to RP, at all?
It's part of what these games are, part of the heritage of games from which they draw.

The mind boggles. :-/

heheh, try replacing "RP" with "PvP". Sooo similar :)

Because that's the way I like playing it.

It's like saying "why eat christmas pudding at all if you're not going to put brandy sauce on it ?", because I like it with clotted cream. As I said, everyone's different. You'll never understand why I enjoy what I do any more than I'll understand your perspective so it's pointless even trying, best to just accept that everyone's idea of fun is different.
I'm a target orientated person, if I don't have a target to reach then I get bored, I get a sense of achievement from advancing through the levels, and the guild events are also fun - I was introduced to "Yuboball" this week and that was hysterical.

I agree, and exactly the same applies. I'm a bit too low lvl to get involved with OP battles currently, but when I'm higher I will be, I'd find that fun (although I don't like the sound of the flaming I've heard about going on in the chat channels during those events), but I don't go around trying to instigate a duel with everyone I walk past :)

I enjoyed the castle sieges in Lineage 2 which was a similar concept, unfortunately that game was open pvp and you couldn't go anywhere without some pre-pubescent kid running up behind you and backstabbing you while you were minding your own business doing a bit of soloing. Lack of consideration (along with greed, ultimately the 2 go hand in hand) is the primary cause for most of the problems in the world today, stands to reason therefore that there are going to be problems and disputes in these sorts of games as well unless we try to be more considerate of the other players around us.
