If I eat something I don't like, I tend to say 'I don't like that', then I don't eat it again. If asked I would say I don't like it, but I wouldn't feel obligated to stop everyone in the street and say 'I don't like pickled eggs!'

I wouldn't camp outside the pickled egg factory telling everyone there. 'I don't like pickled eggs!'

I wouldn't fell that I needed to enter a pickled egg competition so I could stand at the side and say 'I don't like pickled eggs!'

I just wonder why they feel the need to hang around?
Hmm I'm now playing EQ2 and Ryzom. I personally think that EQ2 is a far better game than Ryzom currently is. I'm still playing (and paying for) Ryzom because I can see the potential in it and because of this I feel I have a right to post on these boards. I get irritated by fanbois posting that everything is great in this game, when - at least to me - it very clearly is not. For things to change we need large proportions of the player base to be very vocal about things that aren't working. For evidence of this see the turnaround after the amount of whingeing following Patch 1. It worked - things are closer to the way they were.

That - I believe - is why people are still posting - in the hope that Nevrax fix the mistakes they have made and also that they learn from some of their competitors out there.

Re your analogy -most whimsical I'm sure - but I'd prefer to equate it to me standing outside a pickled egg factory holding the onion they sold me (telling me it was a pickled egg) and asking for it to be changed to a pickled egg. I like pickled eggs - I don't like onions. I'd tell all the other customers going to the factory 'Be careful, I asked for a pickled egg and got an onion'. I certainly wouldn't go home with my onion and try and find another factory. I'd demand my money back or at least demand what I was sold in the first place. Oh....but we can't do that.....MMORPG's don't work like that......just pay your money and trust in Nevrax to get what you want in the end.....maybe next year....

Deliberately avoided pointing out all the things that I think are breaking this game at the moment - most of which are posted all over these forums, shortly followed by some shortsighted fanboi saying 'shut up everything's great, why don't you go play WoW chortle chortle'. This deluded acceptance of a subpar game is whats going to destroy it, not people pointing out problems and suggesting ways to fix them.

I am glad you support both!

Everyone - can post what they want/believe on the forums (With in the bounds of the Forum CoC).

Fanboi - if that is what I am then so be it!

Patch 1 - I was one of those 'whingers'

It took only minutes to discover that a level 50 fighter in good quality and high hit points died/was badly wounded to the weakest creature on the main land!

It took even less time to discover that harvesting 4xql50 mats at lvl 100 using only gentle extraction left you drained of focus and/or almost dead!

I couldn't test the magic - I am not qualified to, so don't

Mat prices and mission rewards meant I could craft.

I only needed 2-3 hours to know Nevrax had gone too far with the patch. I came to the forums and posted my findings constructively.

They responded with Band-Aid patches almost immediately and have delivered a number of these since patch 1 over the period of one week.

After each one I have continued to play. If I didn't I would be unable to make any constructive comment on the game.

I am sick of people posting negative about a game that they have not attempted to play the game since any of these sub patches, but still post on the forums the game is broken. When ANYONE who is currently playing it, can see the majority is much better than it was pre patch 1.

Harvesting has going to easy mode for high level gentle harvesters and challenging for the lower level ones.
Crafting and the NPC merchants are basically cash machines. The destruction of the mission value and been easily replaced with player sales.
Fighting is challenging and do-able, this comes from the fighters that are out there fighting as I type. (Matis - aggro - gingos has been a much-talked about issue from the first days I played in OB1. I think there must be a little exaggeration - as every change ever made to these beasts has never changed the player's views on them!)
Magic - there seems to be two camps, at every level, some say its easy, others say its impossible - again I am not a magic user - so no comment (1 comment I am a lvl 26 magic user, I was almost able the heal 2 people back to life with 96HP heals ...... this is much better than before).

You were miss sold a game by what is on the box and in the manual. Can't argue with that it is the truth. I have never seen a game that has all the features in the game listed in the manual. This does make it right but unless this is your first game ever, I feel allowances must be made to the Development Companies or you should make a stand for the world and stop buying any game till they are correctly labelled and bug free.

My analogy was posted as a light-hearted note, in a dark time. I still don't know why some of the posters here keep returning! When Sony destroyed Planet-Side for me with major changes - I voted with my feet and left. I didn't hang around to bait the people that still enjoy the game.

As for sub-par, that is your opinion. I believe that this game is far from sub-par. It is very different from all the others. Being different means that you can't compare it to other games. It may fall in the MMORPG grouping, but that does mean it should be the same as the rest.

If you compared Myst to The Curse of Monkey Island - these are both point and click adventures - both great games but impossible to compare and aimed at different audiences.

You post need to be answered......

I also call for this thread to be deleted.

hehe you have a good point but as the topic clearly states this is just my point of view on WoW vs Ryzom... why should this thread be deleted..

if you make a thread about what you had for lunch it should be no problem.. this is the general board on the forums.

i wanted to tell everyone how i feel about the hype.. and what i encountered in a difrent game.. + this topic has as mutch views as the sticky one :P

Ham and tomato roll, like a cheese and onion roll but kinda different in content. If the packaging had said egg and cress, but contained ham and tomato .. I would have still eaten it, as I am hungry. If however I didn't like hame and tomato, I would have returned it and maybe gone hungry as it was the last sandwich :P

Well, what to expect when you post a article WoW vs Ryzom? Not very strange imo that you get answers from people who play both (like me). And they WILL return to the boards just too see the answers on their post. I, for one, find the results posted very mature (as shown again by krone9 in his eq2/ryzom post). I think again that's what I see all around this board. Maturity. Let me tell you: coming from Bnet that's really refreshing.

Like i said, i'm trying out both now. I really, really like the graphics in ryzom and still discovering a lot (newb that i am) and i really, really like all the quests in WoW (it makes soloplay a lot more interesting).

I will compare in 3-4 months and make a decision. I only want to play 1. 2 will be too much for the time that i have.

Hi, ive been playing WoW for the last few days in between being on ryzom. Just my oppinion but i find WoW to be a little dated, maybe a few years back this would live up to the hype that has surrounded it but not now. One of the main things that puts me off is the graphics that seem to be too "fairy tale" in style. Ryzom on the other hand has very impressive graphics and also some of the best support from the developers team of gamesmasters and guides and the potential being put in through the underlying story is something i have felt lacking in all mmorpgs i have played....im just glad someone is moving on from the days of UO's infamous graveyard invasions at last.

There already are a couple WoW threads over in our Off-Topic forum. There is no need to resurrect old threads like this one. ;)

Please continue discussing the topic here: http://ryzom.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=61
