TBH Neun I doubt very much this is the reason you're leaving, but that's up to you if you don't want to post the meat of it :) I think my account runs out on the 17th, but I'm certainly not leaving because of Botters - and I don't think you would either. The problem is obviously small here, I don't think Botters have all the tools/mechanics they need to fully exploit in Ryzom. We're certainly not talking about the scale seen in other games, especially SWG.

What's the point of a CoC? Basically to keep the majority of people in line, and hopefully to ward of the evil-doers. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for everyone. In the real world, Blizzard could afford to ban who the hell they like - they have 2 million subscribers, and perceptible problems/concerns with finances. I don't think I need to finish this paragraph to make the point...

Anyhow, I kind of guessed this would happen (no prizes eh?). Take care Neun, and be well. I hope your heart is not too heavy. I know I'll miss Ryzom and being able to post here, but for me a dream I once had is gone, along with a whole bunch of new friends I met playing this game, and it won't be fulfilled by anyone in the near future, unless something very surprising happens.

They move the player when he/she doesn't respond to tells from a GM, that way it can be seen if the player is botting.

What happens after that is a unknown, the GM isn't allowed to tell us, and the botter probably won't. So unless you know what happens, don't assume that the GMs are not doing anything.

As far as I know, I haven't seen anyone botting in SoR.

I never said anything about mining did I? :) First Aid/Doctor was the most botted profession I think. Even the guys who provided those monster buffs managed to automate their entire outside-the-spaceport process:

1) Doc sits outside spaceport with his buffpacks at the ready, and cranks up the script
2) "Doc buffing this for half an hour, that for half an hour" spams on /local chat
3) "Buffs 14K, please use /bank to get in the Q - 10 Buffs Avail. in Queue"
4) Players tip using the /bank command
5) Script checks the tip, ensures cash is right
6) You're added to a Q, and the script replies to your Tip
7) When you're up, you're called forward by the script, and you're buffed with all 3 buffs
8) Back to step 1, until all buffpacks are used

Now *that*, whilst being dirty, dishonest and exploiting to the max, is some of the most impressive scriptwork I have *ever* seen, bearing in mind these people are writing within the constraints of the SWG engine. We're not talking Perl, Lua, VBScript or anything like that. Nice, but not nice :)

EDIT: You're kind of right with the mining - you can buy 'factories' later on, which extract the materials for you. You have to progress to that stage tho (and they're expensive, as you'd expect). Still, it reflects real life quite well. You don't see the boss of Shell digging in the ground for Oil eh? :)

:( I'm not enjoying it either mate I'm afraid :(

I'll be watching what happens here as closely as I am now, obviously without the ability to post. I plan to come back to Atys - I don't know when, but it will happen. And when it does, I sincerely hope that all of you guys are still here. It's been horrible watching even more friends dropping out, and now I find myself in the queue for the exit.

Hopefully some magic will happen over the next few months, and we'll all find ourselves together again, enjoying this game in all it's beauty. I have a hazy vision of logging in and heading to Min-Cho stables, and finding all those familiar faces there again. That could be the smoke coming from the ash tray, but I don't think it is. *sigh*

aye something like this does sound pretty good, and who knows maybee something like this is already in place. maybee the steps taken by the gm`s are harsher than previously mentioned, but i really dont see why nevrax cannot state what punishments they are going to deliver to offenders this surely would scare people to not do it in the first place, instead of having a super secret "deal" with people who cheat. We are a mature community Nevrax, a botter knows what he is doing when he goes to a botting website, downloads a peice of software, installs it, sets up required macro`s, records keystrokes, a warning would not be neccessary if there were more specific rules and punishments inside the code of conduct and on the ryzom.com website. i have total faith in the gm`s and guides, this poll wasn`t meant as a dig at your incompetitence, but to show you what we are feeling about the subject, some obviously stronger than others :( .

Regarding PeteJ`s suggestions on stopping the continuous macro-able non stop digging, wow great idea, make the player choose whether to take all or drop all before they can perform another action (same as crafting is atm), this would make botting harder for the cheaters. Botting is a big deal, i aggree not as big as other games, but ryzom is not as big as other games, its here and is apparently growing in popularity, and even being promoted.

Please Nerax/Jolt, revise the way you deal with this subject. We have told you how we feel

Even bigger please goes to Neun to reconsider, you are the soul of atys for many people, including me :(

Just to give you guys an idea about how we deal with such situations internally:

We have a zero tolerance policy against any type of cheats and cheaters in Saga Of Ryzom. That of course includes users of so-called "bot" tools and other unauthorized 3rd party tools, intended to gain an unfair advantage over other fellow players.

Providing our players with a cheater-free environment is massively important to us and it is necessary, so everyone can enjoy playing the game. I am grateful that we do not have the same problems with large amounts of cheaters that some other online games have, but nonetheless we take this subject very serious and our customer service is able to track down and deal with cheaters and exploiters.

The relevant clause in the CoC is clear and simple. While we deal with each violation on a case-by-case basis, I think it's safe to say that if you cheat in Ryzom and get caught, be sure to have your bags packed. ;)
