I've given lots of examples that don't screw people over, yet they are told it's not fair because crafters aren't needed. Here is one...

-Give a reward of something that enhances existing weapons and armor. For example a warrior gets a sword case that makes their sword sharper and give 10% xp gain over normal crafted items. You still need the player crafted
That's a good reward.

You are right Raynes, I do remember you mentioning something like this before. I'm very concerned with the possibility of seeing the economy, or need for crafters, effected adversely as I have seen in other games from the introduction of overpowered reward items. I'm sorry if I seemed a bit gruff with you.

It is an interesting idea, I have to admit. Such a concept could be applied to a variety of stats, or even HP/Sap/Stam/Focus regen rates, and could be scaled based on level of difficulty attaining such a "buff". Hmmm... perhaps the buff could behave in a manner similarly to enchantments... but rather than using sap crystals to recharge said buff, one could use honor points or some other such thing...

I'm just thinking 'outloud' here, and of course my thoughts on the subject are completely raw and open for debate. :D

*edit* - the 'buff' could even be considered a divine gift, of sorts. Similar to the DP reduction pacts, only attained as a reward, and maintained through honor point spending or repeating the mission?

In the end all I really want is to be rewarded for my hard work with something that will be useful to me. That's not selfish, that's not trying to ruin the economy or remove crafters, it's simply wanting a reward for hard work.

I'm not against creative new things. I'm just against people insisting that the reward HAS to be mats. Or that the reward HAS to be something that requires crafters. Ryzom is a great complex game, there is no need for it to have such a basic reward system as it does.

So I guess what I am saying is think outside of the ryzom reward system box, and come up with some new ideas. Something, anything besides the same old mats that has been done for 2 years now.

Just curious- what's the difference between a reward that enhances the item you had crafted yesterday as opposed to the same reward going into something you have crafted tomorrow? ;)

Simple, I don't have to take the item to another person to be able to use it. In addition to that no one will get the benefit of the item except the person it was awarded to.

So then, who wants choosable rewards, like from the kitin invasion, where you collected tokens and spent them on your desired reward.. or honor points, if that is the new currency :p

that way, Raynes can have his sharpening stone, the crafters can get plans, and then mats to use in them, and other people can get whatever it is they think they need.

But if mats like the Karavan mats from the honor points can be chosen.. they need to be tradeable, so players can give them to crafters to use, if thats what they want.

Otherwise, have the quest rewards be better than excelent, but worse than supreme...

I want item rewards that are 300% better than crafter items ;)

(just not 2h axes :P )

I may have said it before but here again, I wouldnt mind if they introduced things like 120/120 ele amps that had crap stats for everything else etc. High parry weapons with lower dmg speed.

everything they introduce will annoy someone somewhere it seems.

Hey, if people want to turn this game into an EQ2 clone, by all means, introduce weapon/armor drops. If you want Ryzom to remain unique... find a better way.

The idea Raynes put forward could be done any number of ways without ruining crafting.

EQ2's missions, zones, number of races,, graphic detail with Ryzoms setting? Where do I sign up? Seriously.

I often wonder if the people who talk about how bad EQ2 and WoW have actually played the games.

Yep, I've played both. Played WoW beta, and a little bit post beta, but never really got that much into it.

EQ2, played that from launch til about January of this year or so. Ran a Guild there, crafted, and dealt with people who would rather do quests than buy player crafted items. Certain crafting branches in EQ2 are pointless, due to the amount of drops one could attain. The economy in EQ2 is crap. Loot farmers control the value of items, and control the majority of the coin. It's a sad excuse for a "marketplace".

Due to the lost interest in crafting, SoE made crafting easier. Which brought lots more people into crafting, and the economy furthered it's path into the toilet.

I'd rather not see the same happen to Ryzom. Keep the loot farmers where they belong... in the loot farms of other games.

*edit* - Oh... and as for graphic detail, Ryzom is far more beautiful in my opinion than EQ2... and with a fraction of a fraction of the lag. It is only now that you can buy a new PC which can actually run a higher graphics setting without severe lag.
