Spiff has been someone I enjoyed plaing with and have great respect for... but notice what I believe PvP can do to the player.
Spiff,
You yourself said that others need to stop using the term "gankers" when we refer to the people who relentlessly kill others in PR. because you find it very derogatory and even pornographic... (see below)
mtsmith wrote:To make my position clear, I find the word "ganker" to be very derogatory. It sounds somewhat pornographic..
But then you allow yourself the liberty to then label your opposition with the following blanket statement: (see below)
mtsmith wrote:....If you want to play as a goodie two shoes care bear tree hugger, the other 95% of the world...
You also said:
mtsmith wrote:I do believe in honor and duty. You will never find me... breaking the CoC in any way...
and
mtsmith wrote:...I can promise that you will never find me breaking any Code of Conduct or harrassing another player...
So... it seems that you don't want others to call you a ganker, but you can call them what you want? (see above and below)
mtsmith wrote:...As usual, the high and mighty Grimjim keeps talking.... imposing the hell out of my style of gameplay on yer tree huggin' butt.
(Last I checked, insulting and name calling is against the CoC... which you have promised never to break twice in this thread, but then broke at least twice...)
Thankyou for providing such a clear example of what the cancer of PvP can do to a good, respected player of the community.
Speaks volumes.

From this thread for one.
If you're playing against another group that likes PvP and wants to be involved that's one thing, but thus far there hasn't been any step towards, consideration of, or thoughtfulness shown to accomodating people that want nowt to do with it.

im not sure that pvp is the cause of this, its too indirect!

hate, revenge, political warfare, rivalries, et cetera.

And this is what you really want more of in a game. MORE hate, MORE revenge, MORE discord?
It is rare to hear someone actually say that they want the community to fall apart and decend into griefing and L337 SP33K. But, I applaud your open honesty.
For everyone else, if you want more of what is wrong with MMOs, beg for more PvP. If you want a game that is something other than GANKFEST: ELVES VS DWARVES, please help Nevrax see where this is heading.
There is a lot of potential still in SoR, most of it will be wasted trying to implement PvP over real content.

point taken... PvP does not cause this behavior... but I believe it "can" cause it.
I see many players (myself included) start talking luny when PvP comes into the picture... we can also start to talk luny if we've been been run over by a NASCAR racecar while playing chess with a care bear and hugging a the nearest tree.

I'll say it again. You can debate whether its good or not, you can attempt to demonize one another, but regardless of the outcome here, PvP
IS part of the game and is only becoming a larger part of it in the near future.
So prove your points here all you want, it makes no difference. PvP is here and its here to stay.

See, that's just more evidence of the selfish thinking behind it.
'Tough, deal with it'.
Not very helpful.
And Nevrax claim to listen, so there's always a hope.

Example, (I am not saying a PvP'er is a Terrorist.. this is just an
extreme exageration example of the above quoted logic)
You can debate whether terrorism is good or not, you can attemt to stop it, but regardless... Terrorisim is part of life, and will only become a larger part in the near future.
Fight it, and try to stop it... it makes no difference, It's here and here to stay.

I cant help but feel that there is a little selfishness on both sides of the coin here!
Its probably why nevrax is playing by their own rules on this one and not listening too much to the squabbling
