Well, I guess when the botters arrive, it time for the real players to find a new game.

Have a nice time buying you stuff from a bunch of cheats.

See you on the flip side.

It hardly seems to be widespread or common. I don't think you need to worry too much.

I have read this thread and it appears that you can do what you like in the game and the worst you get is moved to a new location.

Whats the point of a CoC if its not enforced?

That people are botting is sickening given how many keypresses the honest players must make. It decreases my enjoyment of the game thinking that people have leveled by cheating. In one sense, it shouldn't decrease my enjoyment since Ryzom can be largely a PvE game. However as the PvP, GvG and FvF aspects are enlarged with outposts and other competitions, cheating and punishing it strongly become more important. It would be pointless and disgusting to be beaten out of outposts by a bunch of cheating botters.

I think that first discovery of botter should lose 20 levels of harvesting in their main branch. For a second infraction, they should lose all harvesting levels and 25% off their highest other skill. Third time, character deletion.

It's actually far worse and more widespread in other games. In UO, come the script farmers were so sophisticated that people trying to PK their avis (and thus excercise some player justice) would be killed by the script.

Scripts, hacks, and exploits were used to steal items from secure areas, 'ninja loot' corpses, win PvP fights, max out characters in 2-7 days, as "ghost cams" to spy on prime hunting or event areas in open pvp areas, and probably some tricks I've forgotten about.

From what I've read about Lineage II it's every bit as bad as UO was for cheating, botting and exploiting. Ryzom for me has actually been a respite from the Ebay goldfarmers, cheaters and exploiters that were rampant in UO, and as far as I can see, it still is.

For anyone quitting Ryzom because of a handful of cheaters that haven't been banned as of yet, I hope you find another MMORPG out there that has fewer of these than this game, but I really kind of doubt you will. The community here continues to get high marks wherever I read comments on it, and from new players coming in. One of the reasons for that is that we do have a clean, mature, and above board group playing this game, for the most part.

I still haven't seen that change, although I am seeing a lot of the 'veterans' leaving the game lately, which is sad.

What I don't get is why they want to bot in the first place.

Yeah, you do have to do ALOT of repetitive stuff to level any path (that does bug me). I spend plenty of time grinding (ask folks from FF, Void, or just about any stables or raw mat merchant on Atys), during that time, I am also chatting, joking, or kvetching with other players. I do not get around very well in RL, and I enjoy the social interaction (albiet near vicarious, I miss facial expressions).

There are more things than levels for your character to achieve in Ryzom, and not just fame or wealth. The ONLY aspect of this game I have not found any fault with are the enviorments (those I have been able to get too, at any rate :p ). Places like Darkmoor are very theatrical and stunning when entered and explored. True, there is nothing concretely worthwhile in Darkmoor, no mobs, no mats, no portals (I have searched it thoroughly, but who knows? I may have missed something) However, when you enter it from the western-most passage, creeping through a tightly enclosed, near-clautraphobic chasm, only to reach it and be smacked around the occipital lobe with the sureal, eerie, and beautiful vista that is Darkmoor, concrete achievments can take a running jump. When showing it to other players who have never seen it before, the typed comment "Whooooaaaa" is most common.

Botters miss out on things like that.

Ask a guide, maybe they can fill you in.
If not, I will ask myself.
