I don't like being personnaly told to go-away so I thought I would explain: I was just saying that IF Ryzom is just a test bed (as someone else hinted at) then we are just testers and that paying testers = suckers. However, I happen to think Ryzom is more of a half-made bed that I enjoy tossing and turning in. So I hope your heretical advice that I go play WoW is retracted and you go wash yer keyboard for even pressing those keys in that order.vinnyq wrote:yup, major suckers. Go play WoW instead.
As for comments on the Ring - A truly great idea and as innovative and refreshing as the class-less system. I'm a programmer and am looking forward to a game where you can make more than just maps to create and evolve a world. I love observing and playing in other people's creativity (old D&D days) and so Ring sounds great.

lol
sorry trenker, I really appologize for being snappy. Your previous post didn't really give me much room for imagination though. I don't like being called a sucker, nor that Nevrax is try to sucker us
My patience is just wearing a tad thin with the boo crowd. If you don't see how great the ability to mod for an mmorpg is, especially one which such a congruent world and awesome setting as Atys, then you really need to take a step back and think about it all for a bit.
Again, sorry trenker. I'll go bang my fingers on a drawer for typing out those words "go play ***". Gah I did it again!

Got an idea ? sponsorize itvinnyq wrote:We are paying a sub for the actual game, creating content, and also have to pay a hosting fee? I really hope they have some sort of 30 days try out free hosting thingee, for each map.

The financial issue is more like a silliness-filter, it will avoid a flood of "test-1" or "_autosave" maps to be online.
now question is (and i guess is that you mean by "30 days try out") how can we test with real ryzom chars the user-made map ?
The editor will be realtime (let says user-friendly), but does it emualtes a ryzom player account offline ?
another thought :
I'm looking forward to make dungeons, and there is 4 stuff ryzom currently needs (no one noticed but ryzom is the only one RPG game that didnt have them):
- switch / lever (triggered by homin)
- traps (artifically enginered)
- doors (with lock, block, breakable parameters)
- container (loot purpose

hope hope hope the R2 give them bundled

The best thing about dungeons is I won't have to go near thempr0ger wrote:I'm looking forward to make dungeons, and there is 4 stuff ryzom currently needs (no one noticed but ryzom is the only one RPG game that didnt have them):

That was one of the draws for Ryzom for me, no silly dungeons.

Still, this gives room for everyone to have something they like

Is "here" because the builders wanted it.grimjim wrote:"WHY is this here? Why hasn't some other adventurer looted this in the last 500 years since it was abandoned? HOW did they dragon get into that tiny room? WHY?!?"
It was not looted yet coz all the others died.
The dragon was there from the beggining, they've build the room around it.

That which does not kill me makes me stronger.

Hey, your statement is a nice background-checking filter!
In fact i'm worried about mob spawn : they just "pop" down here. i'd like to see a hole or an unreachable nest where mobs came from.
Mmh wait, if the R2 toolkit allow to script such spawn system, realistic and immersive content would be much easier to make

gah devs! gimme gimme a doc/pdf/input/data/readme/slideshow with the toolkit explicit capability i can't wait

Re: Ryzom Ring : Comments thread
My history involves the 3D (chat) Universes (citizen, world owner, universe manager). One of the most profitable components of the survival of each Universe was the player owned (read paid for) worlds. There we rendered as best we could with the compatible modelers of the day the world that we wanted. We were able to make public or private worlds, set levels of powers (eject others, delete others creations...) the world owner could even set content rating levels (nude avatars, tolerance of expletives = X rating). This was 8 years ago for me, and I guess it's offered as a reassurance that basic control by the Universe of the private owned worlds is possible and in fact written into the contract with the world owner. And that is my point...
Owners = income = chance of survival. This is my concern. That SoR has a chance to survive. My dreams I'll enjoy privately.

Hehe, found this page "Squidi" which has something to say about Ryzom-Ring.

p.s. From the text it sounds like this guy actually played the game. Ok, which one of you wrote this?

I mostly agree with him, but you have to take the good with the bad. Creativity is a double-edged sword. And what's wrong with naming all the NPCs after DragonballZ character anyhow, if done well?http://www.squidi.net/index.php wrote: Enter Saga of Ryzom - that lovable black sheep of the MMORPG family. It is a beautiful game that is completely skill based. If you want to be max level fighter, harvester, magic user, and crafter, you can. The only limitations are your interest and your free time. Of course, there are roughly 10,000 levels in the game total. It's also got this really awesome thing where you can literally design your own skills. Want to hit and do armor piercing, then you need to offset that cost with action points. The problem is, there isn't enough variety in the game. With 10,000 levels, you'd probably find yourself surprised that there's only a dozen different types of weapons and three different types of armor. And you'd be surprised to find out that the skill system is extremely limited by the fact that you have to buy more powerful skill blocks of the same skill as you raise up levels to do the exact same attack. You need armor piercing level 20 when you hit level 20 if you want to do the same 5% AP damage that you did at level 10 with AP lvl 10.
Ryzom has issues. It is brilliance wrapped up in just the basics. You can never take the ideas farther than the simplest function. It is this fact which gives me both hope and dread at their new expansion, Ryzom Ring. It allows you to use the same tools that the developers use to create your own areas for the world. Want to create a PvP zone? How about a serene lakeside chapel for marriages? Maybe a dungeon with a complex storyline and many quests? Yeah, go for it.
Player created content is a blessing and curse. When I'm doing it, it's a blessing. When that guy who decides to name all his monsters after DragonBall Z characters is doing it, it is a curse. I guess I just don't like to be subjected to the creativity of morons, because creative though it might be, it's still soaked with idiocy. How are they going to make sure that the player created areas are up to snuff? And will it be like every other feature in Ryzom, where it's brilliantly thought up, but only the basics are implemented?
I do think that player created content is the future of MMORPGs. I think Ryzom is created by smart, creative people. I like smart, creative people. I like Ryzom. I don't like grinding, and right now, with 10,000 levels and 20 levels worth of content, that's all you can do. I want to have faith in Ryzom Ring because it's the type of thing I want to see in more MMORPGs, and I'm not surprised that Ryzom is the first to go for it. I'll just be surprised if they succeed.
