yy48n19 wrote:Interesting; thanks for the reply, Zzei. So, are you telling us that it is not impossible to solo at lvl 133? I'd like to be clear on that.

It looks like its not impossible to solo past level 100 if you were fortunate enough to exploit blind and the easier combat system to level more than one melee branch past level 100. With all the extra SP's that Zzei has I'm not surprised that she's much better than the average person who up until this point was only able to focus on a single combat area. I remember watching Zzei power up her close combat in resting waters using daggers with blind on them just a couple weeks ago.

Also, Zzei has equipment above and beyond what an average player would be able to acquire.

Frankly, not as a slam, but Zzei is a power gamer. There's nothing wrong with that, but comparing her abilities to that of someone who is a more average player is like comparing a pro athelete to someone who plays intermurals.

I am having almost the opposite situation and here is my stats:

2h-fight: 73
close combat: 72
weapons: ql 80 (sorry i can't get anything better in tryker atm, or atleast i can't find anything) but atleast its max dmg/speed
armor: ql100 (best i can wear, all choice armor)
+600 hp from jewelry
+300 hp from armor

I actually have 90 fight points left to spend but nothing to spend them on :o

My constitution is a bit higher than a fighter my level would be because my forage skill is very high and I can buy 1 more level of constitution than normal for my situation (hence the ql100 armor).

I cannot defeat anything close to my level over 1/2 the time. I've tried different enemies, different weapons, etc. I just can't do it. The only way I can defeat something is by fighitng things very far below my level.

I had the experience yesterday of having a hard kipee do 800 pts of damage to me (through my ql100 choice heavy armor mind you) and then granting me 39 experience points when it died.

This is using an armor that blocks 162 pts of damage from the kipee's attack and using a weapon that it is not resistant to and using the best melee attack that I have.

Subsequent fights against the hard kipees had them doing 400-500 pts of damage to me on average.

I talked to some people who were lower level than me, and they were having almost identically the same experience. It's as if my extra 15-20 fight levels didn't make a lick of difference in how hard or how often the kipee hit me at all.

The absolute hardest monster I can possibly fight with my current equipment is a scary clopper. They give 1500 xp and I need to use my self heal for each one. They still kill me about 1/2 of the time. So I don't fight them.

I tried to fight a dangerous ragus (900 xp) but he killed me in three hits. I got stunned then 750, 750, 750 = I'm dead.

On the plus side I can beat up ybers for about 300xp. So far thats the only thing I've found that I can defeat on a regular basis without having to worry about collecting more DP.

Also, sadly since forage is now my highest ability... the only way I can work off DP at a reasonable rate is to forage. Which means every time I die in a group or team and do not get a revive, I have to run back to the team and earn off my DP at a lower rate then the people who are specialized more so in combat abilities.

It's not quite an option to say to your team, "Hey guys see you in 15 minutes I need to forage to work off my DP". So instead I sit there and earn almost 1/2 the clearance of my DP than I would normally.

All around it is a very crappy system.

Yes, I did use the easier fight system to get my skills up. But from 1-110 in 2h pierce, I did a simple healer/tank duo. From 110-133 was done leading raids to other civilizations. 51-105 was again, healer/tank duo. CC was the only skill that I raised with the benefit of blind.

That healer/tank duo works even better now, mobs die faster, heals do 3x the damage. It's WAY easier now than before for this set up. (level from 46-58 today already, paired with a now 73 lvl tank).

Yes, I'm using a pike that is 7 over my level, Similair to your situation. You are also using armor that is higher than your level, i'm using armor that is 50+ beneath my level, and only medium at that. It took me a while of testing to find the right mobs to fight. At 133 it was a marauding ragus, nice 2 star mob in resting waters. Malicious cloppers may be a good xp for you, just a guess. Don't know for certain.

You want a q90 pike jjm152? Shoot me a tell in game, made outta some nice stuff with +45hp. Free of charge, might help make a difference ;)

Only safe way to play is to be a "Bottom Feeder" clearing out all those pretty flying hatchlings and Skruyubos. Boring but steady...at least DP is managable that way :-)

Melli dear, you can't just say that it doesn't show a lack of developer forsight. Ryzom was in beta for a good long while, and if anything Beta Testers tend to be more obsessive than most. They had already seen what players were capable of; release did not make things notably different. That IS lack of foresight. Sweeping changes to keep in line with vision should be made in --yes-- beta.

That said, I didn't think Patch 1 made things too too hard (though I'm only at level 48 melee). I was able to get exp decently in a group; at low levels, the Patch isn't really a problem at all. People may be overreacting.

I *am* on break from Ryzom for a while, though. The patch didn't really make things too much of a challenge compared to the upper range of FFXI, but it DOES accentuate the fact that ATM, Ryzom is just a pointless level grind like FFXI and others. I hope they can get the CONTENT in soon. Frankly I'm not positive that this patch should have taken priority over the content patch, but whatever.

Cheers.
Kore

Malicious cloppers kick the living crap out of me. I can't even get one dented before I die. I can barely do a scary clopper if I have someone backing me up with heals or if my self heal is up.

I should have spent all my time power leveling my fight/magic abilities instead of harvesting and crafting, then I would be in a much better position right now. But frankly the last patch has sucked all of the fun out of the game for me.

You see I liked this game alot, otherwise I wouldn't be so upset. But honestly I don't like it enough to "play" what is essentially a frustrating grind now. That's not fun for me, its not fun for a lot of people, hence why there are so many complaints.

I understand that alot of people actually either really love to grind levels slowly, or they are already in a position where they are so far above everyone else that it doesn't matter to them.. but for me working 3 hours to ge a single point in an ability isn't very much fun, especially when there are literally thousands of points out there to get. Some of my friends are higher than me now and I will never catch up to them.

Maybe I *do* suck as much as everyone seems to say I do, but if thats the case I can't get any better than I already am. I feel that I do a good job but I still fail over and over and over again. My idea of enjoying a game is suceeding and not failing. It's being able to grow my character, not watching paint peel.

You made fun of me in another thread because I was having problems with my magic. There are a lot of people like you out there who instead of saying that people have valid complaints just choose to make fun and call us names and insinuate that we are inferior players or that we are mentally challenged or stupid.

Ok fine, whatever. I am stupid. Mock all you want, I can't handle the new game, its too hard for me. I don't like having to be frustrated and upset trying to gain a single level. I don't like feeling that my magic doesn't contribute to a team. I don't like feeling that this game is work instead of fun time.

The attitudes of some of the overly optimistic nevrax supports on this game and their denegrating comments that insinuate that if you cannot do X, Y, or Z because they seem to have no problem with it... that you are a moron finally got to me. I canceled my account over it actually. I was going to wait and see if the developers would take a second look at this mess and balance it more in favor of people who are like me.. but right now I don't really care. The members of the community that wouldl rather mock someone and not acknowledge that a problem exists did more to drive me off the game today than anything else that was done in the last 3 days.

I know alot of these nevrax supporters consider themselves the "mature ones" and the rest of us who are upset are incompetant whiners but that is not a fair assesment of the situtation. My fun from this game approachs nil and I am not any more emotionally invested in it past the time I have spent with my character (which is sadly quite a bit). It is painful to lose all those hours spent developing my character but its not nearly as painful as logging in and being ineffective, or trying to come to these boards and ask the developers to change stuff... only to be made fun of and ridiculed by other people because I am not as uber as they are.

So anyway, you know what you can do with that pike.

This was my point exactly in my thread. We are killing our own player base now. The patches effect is over, now we are driving them away.

yy48n19 wrote:I have to say that since this morning when I first posted this thread, I've also read many posts from 100+ level melees saying that it is impossible to fight mobs 30 levels below them. I'm reasonably convinced that this is the case, and if it is, I do agree that it needs to be fixed. I maintain that combat for me at level 47 is not impossible, but clearly something seems to be wrong at the higher levels, and should be looked at.

Something is wrong at lower levels as well. Like I've said in my posts.. 38 Mage, unable to defeat a single Growlings Ragus without nearly dying in 4-5 hits and having to heal up afterwards - and Growling Ragus are almost as easy as they come in the Gingo/Ragus line - less than that and it's back to 8-16xp Yubos and Bodocs.

It needs to be addressed.

gatineau wrote:Nice, civil post. However, IMO, you are making an invalid assumption. The real issue is FUN. If the game is fun, great; if not, then bad. For most of us, it has nothing to do with difficulty, level, etc.

I have played since release, and a common thread of the experienced MMORPGers on this forum has been:

1. Ryzom is fun;
2. Ryzom has great concept and potential; and
3. Please do not nerf Ryzom into oblivion.

If the devs do not want players to be able to solo, for example, that is their prerogative. However, if you want a reasonable customer base, a game has to be flexible and allow players options other than sitting around doing nothing until a group appears.

Nerfage without thought to game enjoyment is not a formula for success; rather, it is simply gratuitous nerfage.

I read down to this post and thought about all the really good MMOGs, you hit the nail on the head old chap.

You must work for Nevrax. The patch has made prisoners of all who play. The mobs now are much too strong to overcome. You definitely haven't tried leaving the town your in or are still in "Newbe Land".

Low and behold, I just solo'd a 1400xp mob at 104 fight in light armor, q90 MQ sword, using only self heal and enhanced damage. Strangely enough, the mob was easier than the two 79xp mobs I just killed in the easier region.

And I just tried one again, mob got two good hits, I didn't come close.

Possible, I suppose. A crapshoot, somewhat, because of harder hits and less mob hp. One of those 79xp mobs killed me with a 580hp hit. Still not too keen on having to hit self heal at 50% life to be safe about it killing mobs 20 levels under me. But it's possible, yes. Having heavy armor would give me solo ability it seems, albeit with lots of downtime and risk. Grouping is still very fast.

It still irks me that our defensive fighting abilities don't seem to improve anymore. Mobs half the level of these have also killed me quickly.
