Well I've tested the community out (small part on the forums). The only conclusion I can come up with is people are generally happy with what they have, other than some content like finishing rites missions which will keep a few people happy for 5 minutes, then they'll be shouting for something else.

Would be interesting to see what is being done to try to attract new players as I've not seen anything that suggests anything is being done in this respect. But it's one thing to get new players in the door but keeping them is where it counts.

As I really can't see much happening here I've decided to unsubscribe.

Things that don't change with the times usually die out.

I respect that if the community wants to keep everything as it is then fine. Well that's it for me on these forums spent too long here over the last few days anyway.

Edit: Just as I was about to log out this struck me as odd:
That completing the rites missions seems a high priority for some people, yet missions/quests are at the very heart of those games you don't like. All I will say here is: Be careful what you wish for.

And you don´t seem to have realized that we do want these finished, yes,
but, we do wish for "another kind" of Quest System.
One fitting to the theme of this game and one which hopefully will tread a middle-ground, between attracting new players who love to go Quest-Chasing and things that do have either a true impact on the world, or none at all.
Say, not killing Onyxia for the Xth time.

Rites are not like traditional quests. I could explain in more depth, but I'm not going to bother.

the most successful selling car to date is the toyota corolla. i dont know of any car enthusiast who would argue that BMWs or Mercedes should be made more like a Corolla. the same can be said for McDonald's and food. these things are meant to be quick, easy, cheap and convenient. if that is what you like, then bon apetit.

as for the rites....once completed you receive a non-trivial reward as well as a narrrative related to the rite, which lore buffs tend to enjoy. one would expect a person who has spent 1000s of hours ingame to be aware of this.

Having read almost all of the thread, I'd like to point out some reasons why there won't be the influx of newer players to replace the older players leaving and what could be done about it.

First, I am quite sure, that players that accidentally come across the title see that the game is now 5 years old. That the servers are about the same age which means he will, for a long time, be the tiny little player. Most gamers would like to be the Uber-Player so this sits badly with them and they do not even consider to subscribe. (yeah one can argue do we want this kind of players... well we want Ryzom to survive, don't we?)

-> Solution: Relaunch of a Ryzom2 after having a real brush-up to be able to compete with new releases. More Marketing than actual changes, but you need to stir things up a little. As this is quite unlikely to happen one could at least

-> open up a new server. Tiny changes compared to the current servers so that older players also consider to open up an alt on the new server. Then let the old servers slowly die as new subscriptions will only go to the new server. Population would be at least a little better (and with that fun) when we weren't to play on 3 different servers.

-> Marketing. Of course, money is needed. But the amount of players actually testing game number 137 on any given list is rather small. Which games would you test out and where have you heard about them? It's the big names that use tons of marketing that get a large player base.

argh, I'd rather stop here... none of these things will happen and I'm a bit scared of loosing the game once more. Btw also on Leanon server population is dwindling as it seems to me.

One more thing... Look at the Ryzom Website... as a new player that just went through the list and stumbled upon Ryzom... does this website look like a game you'd need to consider testing? Methinks, the website looks very very old... why testing a game if even the website looks old?

EDIT: Just saw my sig. What the... last login this morning... but I was sleeping at that time and sure to have logged off? What happened there???

i think there will be some website changes in near future. i think i read something about that somewhere.

@new server: imo server cluster for the win. just one world for all players (like eve online or fallen earth). as atys is divided into zones just place 1 zone / server so you'll get power even for large scale pvp battles etc. but its just me ;)

Interesting analogy although if looked at from a subscription cost point of view. If that game you suggest is a Corolla, then that would NOT make this a BMW or Merc, probably make it more like a Robin Reliant. Wonder if there's as many people play this as people still owning a Robin Reliant.

As for McDonald's, I have no idea as it's not the sort of place I'd ever eat in.

Even though I played this for many months over the years and 1000s of hours. The missions in this game I've never found to be that intersting and the fact they are repeatable makes them even less interesting. At least the missions before patch 1 had decent dapper rewards, useful for the early stages of the game. After patch 1 the only reason I did any missions was for faction gain otherwise I'd have never bothered with them. Most gamers are not that interested in the Lore of a game only RPers really value this imo and the vast majority of gamers are not RPers.

As for rites, they maybe an RPers paradise, but I only ever did 1 or maybe 2 and never found them that interesting. Certainly not interesting enough to make me think that people would be flocking into the game to play them.

I still don't think you need to put loads of quests into this game to make it more interesting but the one factor this games really needs is people as this game will never work properly without them (imo ofc, thought I better add this :p ).


Edit: Going back to the Lore there are inconsistencies anyway, like the 4 starter isles that were magically removed from history and history rewritten to accommodate Silan.

Razorfang, you have already canceled and claim to have deleted your character, so at this point it seems to me you’re simply arguing out of spite and have no real interest in improving the game. Do yourself and everyone else here a favor and walk away.

Good luck in finding a game, and community, that you enjoy.

Oh it's no claim as you insinuate, it's factual all you have to do is make a character called Shania to confirm it, unless someone beats you too it ofc.

You also insinuate that it's for no reason other than spite which is also untrue.

If people like yourself stopped posting this kind of crap then I'd have no reason to respond.
