about time... Now once we see some sort of development on content, I'll might consider subbing up. Fixing the broken aspects of the game is good, but will it bring in new players? doubtful. Give us something to do end-game!meryan wrote:Check this out: http://forums.ryzom.com/showthread.php?t=33535
So after we start paying, will we get to know who Spiderweb is ?

Re: So after we start paying, will we get to know who Spiderweb is ?
As I have stated I have been away for awhile, so haven't experienced the live events etc. I do think we are due some sort of "plan" into the future where there are assurances that the game will continue. I read about GameForge and what they did and didn't do, just hoping this will not be a repeat, same as some others that have posted here.iceaxe68 wrote:I'm a pretty big fan of live events and bug fixes. And having the servers online. Playing for free for several months is pretty nice, too. I figure that's a reasonably good start on devotion-earning.
That may be enough to earn YOUR devotion, but I am still sitting on the fence as to what I should believe.
I would much rather subscribe than play for free..believe it or not, and having been blocked from posting here on the "official forums" for many months contributed to my hesitation in placing faith in the New Team.
I really would like to see more information from them on the game itself, and future plans. That will contribute to my decision.
Thanks

Re: So after we start paying, will we get to know who Spiderweb is ?
I'll be giving Spiderweb (whatever) a chance by staying with the game. My character is between 50-85 in levels so there is lots of content to explore. Better, I can think of a number of other things to do before or after reaching 250 in any category.
The classless system suits me. And the ability to create spells, combat abilities and crafting recipes offset the grindy (I don't like grind games as a rule) nature of the game to keep it fun.
The world is more complete and lifelike than any other game I've ever tried. The backstory is interesting. I haven't even participated in PvP yet. The playerbase is generally more pleasant than other MMOs.
The price they are going to charge is lower than most as well.
Playing from the US does incur a bit of lag - Mobs are closer than they appear and hit me after I've killed them. And foraging is frustrating at times - "There are some materials nearby" must be some kind of French dev joke. Overall, I can't think of another game I'd rather play though.
Sure, I'd like to see a long range plan and events once in a while, but when it comes down to it players will always use up content faster than it can be created so you either make your own or game hop.

I know that and am aware it can even take 5 months for them to response but at lease we will have an answer in a, hopefully, not overblown thread with alot of nonsense posting. That is why I asked to stop posting non sense in it and keep it clean. When the answer come, if it comes, then at lease readers won`t have to read 56,000 replies to see it !!!!!abizmal wrote:If you are expecting a reply from spiderweb there ain't much point posting in the first place

praha wrote:Without a concrete 12-18 month roadmap, I won't even look at the billing page on either of my accounts. I would recommend you do the same unless you are content with the current state of the game.
Why would you expect a patch? No mention of ATS at all, or even reactivating ATS accts.
If you expect something from this phantom company you are probably going to be dissapointed. I once thought Jan or Feb would bring upon billing. Now I wonder if it even really matters. The phantom company has said little more than "Next month free as a 'gift'." for the last 3-4 months now?
Why wait when you can watch from afar? Nothing will change here if you move on. The fanbois will still be fanbois, and the game will still be without any new "content", skills, or even a lvl cap increase like some want (LoL, like there isn't enough grind in the game already). Come back from time to time and see the lack of change if you want. It's almost as if time stood still on Ryzom since 2004 BCE.
Praha, I have a hunch that the "bureaucracy" that the New Team talks about in their patch thread, might have something to do with banks possibly. I don't know how that all works, but I just sense that perhaps there's alot of red tape to wade through on getting the billing up and running and being recognized as a bona fide company or what have you.
That part is understandable to me...if thats whats going on behind the scenes.

Just reposting this link. I had forgotten about it, maybe we could get them to give us an updated version.

Re: So after we start paying, will we get to know who Spiderweb is ?
That link is great, but it still doesn't say exactly who Spiderweb is. It's a little disconcerting for players who are used to dealing with visible companies. For example take Turbine, they have a website with a business address and clearly visible ways to contact them.
If it's a matter of bureaucracy, we may know all this by 2012.
lol Just kidding, but paper shuffling apparently takes an age and then some.

Conservative meaning, I can't imagine anyone saying it is higher.praha wrote:You think 1,000 is conservate? I would suspect that is way too high. I have heard through the grapevine in the past it was much, much lower. Even with alt accts I think 500 would be optimistic number for subs after the end of the first month.

For $10, you betya.totnkopf wrote:We're not asking to get to know the name and life story of one of the developers. We want to know about the company itself.
Lets take your example of a GMC car. If you had walked on to the lot and the dealer had walked up to you and said "well, we have a new car company on this lot. Don't know much about them, but they're called Sklubbub. They're brand new on the scene. How well does it run? its ok... there are a few defects, but nothing to be concerned about. Do the cars last long? uh... dunno that either... lets assume they do. Will they be making parts for the car and have certified repair facilities? uh... don't know that either. Lets just hope for the best and assume they will"
Would you buy that car? Course not.
You're gonna have to give me an example where people normally spend $10 on something where before doing so, they felt a need to obtain a complete company profile.totnkopf wrote:Now we're not dealing with the same amount of money obviously, but I don't feel like handing over ANY money to a company ......
In the short time that they have been on board they have:totnkopf wrote:..... that has basically done nothing to reassure the player-base, repair the game, or try to attract new players
a) Set up new servers
b) Recruited complete new development, customer support and marketing teams.
c) Financed the game for 5 months
d) Successfully implemented a server side patch
e) On the cusp of releasing a massive client side patch which will eliminate problems which existed with GF and Nevrax before them.
f) Depending upon how ya wanna look it it, created a new / refurbished the old web site
g) Created and in the process of debugging a billing system
h) Committed to reducing subscriber fees by a third
i) Initiated and developed plans to translate game for release in more languages to increase subscriber base.
j) Developed plan and created web site for 3rd party use of game engine
I am pretty impressed for 5 months effort. It's certainly more than we saw in comparable periods from GF or even Nevrax in its last 1-2 years. With all the problems in the code base which they inherited, I'd certainly be concerned about "making promises" for new developments until I was sure that I had a stable foundation upon which to build on. The old adage "first things first" comes to mind.
In addition, given the pleas in this venue, I must ascertain that it is accepted that SW is reading these forums. It must also therefore be expected that they have read the innumerable posts, and seen the venon in them, with regard to "promises not being met". The best way not to break promises is not to make them.
Fiscal responsibility dictates that you fix what's broken and develop an income stream before investing major capital in new ventures and expansion. Imagine the CFO's face when the new content finally has "hit the streets" and finally starting to breath sigh of relief until the billing system goes down from all the old vets signing up and he can't make good on the bank loans as tech support has told him it's gonna take 2 months of debugging to fix.
After Monday's client side patch, I'd expect in the next 45-90 days:
a) A period of oversight where the new fixes are monitored.
b) A 1.3.x patch which picks up a few straggling bugaboos.
c) Billing system goes live.
d) A new marketing plan is developed.
e) New content plan is released.
I'd expect the new content to arrive immediately prior to a "vacation period" as general assumption is that the major MMO market is students.....so that would be spring or summer school breaks, followed by a 2nd more major content release in time for the December holiday season. I'd also expect that both would be in sync with major marketing efforts.
But I'm not "paying the bills" and the above assumes, 1) that "money is not an issue" and 2) Developing Ryzom is SW's primary goal. I have no idea as to the capitalization which has been put in place and depending on same, the timetable. SW may figure that with two bankrupcies, Atys is just not "survivable" and the plan for Hominkind is to make a coordinated retreat off to another new world.
In the meantime, given what I have seen so far, I figure that what they have done certainly warrants my 10 bucks. I am not bored with the existing content as I have never been obsessive about the game. I play for a few days, and take a few days off....I play for a few months and take several months off. other than the fact that I have to keep digging to no other goal than to get craft grind mats, I have no real "complaints" about every life on Atys. Sure I'd like to see some changes, but that's covered by another thread .

Given the generally accepted definition, expecting non-user responses and discouraging user responses seems counter to the posting in a forum. This **is** a user forum. If you want to provide feedback, the Feedback section might be more apt but I still don't think it necessarily will generate a response.
