It was working properly on xp 32, and now it's not working on Win 7 x64

Sure.

I tried adding the /multi text as adviced in this thread, I also modified the Client.cfg and added the string "BackgroundDownloader = 0;"

When I start the second client, nothing happens (if I have the first client open).

make sure the shortcut you changing is pointing to client_ryzom_rd.exe and not launch.bat that setup is creating. also both instances need that parameter, but just one (incase you have dedicated ryzom folder for account)

BackgroundDownloader doesn't need to be disabled anymore because it's not used :)
