I think this is fantastic news! It shows the progress Nevrax has made in the last year, from closing Windy, to opening Cho. While I do agree the xshard trading needs to cease, this is a superb sign for the game.

As for the International vs Timezone thing, I am 100% for International. Ryzom has a brilliant community, its games like this that get people talking to others around the world, that gets people more friendly with those of other countries. Like it or not, we live in a global age, where country boundaries are becoming less important in terms of the internet, and if that leads to greater understanding and acceptance of other cultures over time, then it has to be a good thing. Also its more cost effective to have international servers, as the peaks are different, you have peaks at different times of the day on one server, as opposed to a peak and then empty the rest of the day, meaning that server is just going to waste for 18 hours.

Perhaps some of the hamsters from the other servers got a bit "frisky" and made baby hamsters then Nevrax needed some place to go with them... didn't wanna leave the poor little critters homeless and tired of em drinking all the coffee and not making a fresh pot...

I don't see any reason to shut down trading between existing servers. I would just lock down the new server for a year.

Oh yeah, I would also kick out all those evil Matis/Karavan loving NA players that ruined our unbiased, unprejudiced and enlightened server so we can finally build an Atys fit for true intellectuals.

this is what i dislike most about the lack of communication recently. 7 pages, a really horrible, soul destroying theme of a farming server which is exactly what will happen if the inter shard trade isnt stopped right now and not a word from a CSR or dev..

do you enjoy watching us suffer i wonder?

btw even if the patch on thursday will stop trading across shards via the ring Cho is coming up tuesday afaik, patch thursday. thats 48 hours for ppl to ship across as much dapper and supremes and equipment as they can, which no doubt will be enough to screw the shard for a very long time.

A server with a heavy Karavan or Kami outpost holding would be able to provide Karavan or Kami (depending on the balance of power) guilds on the newer server with cats, thus unfairly unbalancing with level what might otherwise be balanced with numbers between factions. That's one reason. Add to that quality of gear, etc etc etc

Once any length of time is over (like the year you mention) the trading and unbalancing could begin.

The only thing a US server vs a EU server would improve is OP fights during decent hours.

I don't buy the US players are PVP focused Karavan players while Europeans are mainly peaceful Kami roleplayers, if that is what you suggest Grimjim. And dividing the shards in one more PVP'ish and one more RP'ish would really be awful.

If it goes down like it would seem then I'm not happy >.<

Dev 2: well in the meantime I can crash the server a couple times...
Dev 3: and I'll do a kitin invasion or two... by tomorrow we can act like this never happened as long as we can get that lazy webmaster to remove all evidence from the site...

well this seems like a terribly stupid idea to me xD...

it will just be a rush to see who can get there noob power levelled in PR dig first...and farm the new server for all that its worth.

If they shut contact off to the new server for a year or something, then there wouldnt be so much of a problem. If they dont shut down trade, I cant see any way that this could be considered to be a good idea :S
