And for the comments about NOT wanting a challenge. Its the most stupid comment ive seen on these forums so far.
The reason i fight level 250s isnt to win. its because i like the challenge.
Its also why i choose kami based on ONE SINGLE REASON! They are outnumbered. ITS A CHALLENGE.
So quite honestly, take that comment and put it where the sun dont shine.
Because i take offense of it, its a straight out lie.
And unless you CAN PROVE IT. Please dont say it.
And btw, PEOPLE include myself and jackoba. And we want challenges.
Just proved you wrong.
There are those who want no challenge but lets not get into it as it will lead to further flaming. However people like me... you... and Jack do want challenge so its not a 100% true statment... more like 15-20% true for Ryzom.

Ive been playing SWG since launch.
Then you understsand, using SWG as a reference, the views of the Non PvP here in Ryzom.
I was with SWG from Beta to NGE.....It was a lot of things (not just PvP) that changed, that prompted me (and a LOT of original) players) to leave.
And your original suggestion for titles is not the issue being discussed here. It has evolved into "Does Ryzom need PvP ?". And I am not surprised as it is such a powerful impact n the 'type' of game Ryzom is..again as reference SWG has changed it's player base considerably to cater to PvP, and all I see on the SWG forums is "I WANT IT EASY".
For Ryzom PvP..I must confes I have not witnessed/noticed any, it's current level of activity and involvement does not impact my gameplay...But It is nice to have the option for me to participate when/if I decide.

And we should exclude that type of content lest it become like that. There's a lot at stake.

Ok it seems that the original premise of this thread has been abandoned in favour if a discussion about the rights and wrongs of PvP.
That being the case think about this for a while...
Lets for argument sake assume that all PvPers on Ari are nice polite people who are only interested in PvP because it's more challenging than PvE.
What would happen if we added more PvP content to the mix?
Could it be that the more Ryzom caters to the PvPers the more it will attract players that are interested in said PvP?
Do we assume that all PvPers are nice polite people?

I personally believe that the nature of the PvP community will be effected by the mechanics involved, the behavior of the community in general, and the level the GM's and Guides get involved in policing behavior.
Back when I was playing DAoC, there was plenty of PvP content, but it was in its own space, seperate from PvE. You would never, with the exception of a friendly duel, see PvP mixed with PvE. The PvP community there was, for the most part, very respectful and it was not uncommon to have the person who killed you bow to your corpse before moving on to the next battle.
Of course... the various realms couldn't speak each other's languages, so trash talk was non-existant. You would see "Kunk says something you don't understand". The worst thing you might see was someone jumping on your lifeless head.
Obviously, that is not the case here. We can understand the chat of opposing forces, and it's mixed right into the PvE landscape. So where game mechanics do not prevent poor behavior, how PvP is reacted to by the community will play a larger role in how PvP players react.
The "leet kiddies" who like to simply cause other players grief are not welcome. The solution to the issue of attracting the wrong sort of PvP'ers will be with how the PvP aspect of the community is cultivated. The question of... how?
PvP isn't going away, in fact, it will most likely become more a part of Atys as time progresses. It's been a growing trend in MMORPG's for years. There is nothing wrong with it, if the individuals participating view it as a fun challenge, not "who can cause the most grief".
Rather than bickering about PvP and shouting at the rain about keeping it out, I believe it would be more productive to discuss how to keep it honorable, fun, and the best ways to keep PvE'ers from being affected adversly.

And that is what i am trying to say.
For the record, i am not a ganker and a griefer in pvp.
Quite the opposite. I prefer to let SKILLS be the way of showing what i mean.
Im not gonna kill someone and go: omfg! i mothereffing pwnalised your sowwy @zz with my l33t skillz!!! (i suck at leet speak so please forgive a bad example
).
thats also why i say DO NOT REWARD US WITH STUFF THAT CAN BE USED.
Meaning, dont give pvpers a reward that the PVErs NEED. A title isnt something NEEDED.
Nice and shiny. yeah. But expendable.
That way, we can keep the people nice and respectfull. With also giving a little cookie to the rest of us ugly mean pvpers
Though, after reading this thread i do understand that PVE content needs to come first. But maybe in time when we have gotten a fair share of PVE content?

Kinda offtopic, but related

Several months ago, Nevrax announced that a title revamp was in progress, linked with an excel sheet with suggestions. After some initial discussions, we retained:
- It is (supposedly) not as easy as it was supposed to be, despite initial communication saying it was.
- It takes an effort to find satisfactory, lore-aware, (e.g. no "Master of Undead"), easily translated into english french and german titles, without even considering "player tastes": what a player finds nice other find horrible.
- The titles system seems basic: Titles do not take into account gender and only manage the logical "OR" (if you are "this OR that" then title). Apparently, managing the "AND" was not considered, in consequence there are no titles for combined skills. And changing this was not trivial.
- Nevrax developer needs to focus on a single task. No resources could be spared for other tasks, with lower priority
In summary, it was delegated to an "eternal" long term item. Maybe your suggestion (not going into the discussion wether I like it or not) should be integrated into the "titles revamp".
But maybe in time when we have gotten a fair share of PVE content?
LOL
I don't think we can ever say "now we have a fair share or PVE content". It would be like saying "ok, now that the first version of the ring is live, forget about all the already made suggestions in the forum threads on how to improve it and work on other things.

Bad examples of PvP mentality:
If people are looking for a challenge, then fighting on the Kara side in OP battles often isnt it. (But I think crystals are the main motivation on that front, rather than griefing or PvP...)
Episode 2.
My mount being deliberately killed with exploding source/gas while I was chatting to a team mate of the person killing it 20m away. Thats not even PvP, thats _annoying_. Sure I laughed it off, but frankly thats an example.
There are plenty of people willing to do whatever the hell they can get away with "for a laugh" or whatever. It happens. There _are_ people who enjoy a good challenging (normally meaning close faught) PvP fight. But sadly I don't think the scales balance...

Not a typo. See number of Kara held OPs. Defensively Kami lose a fair number of times as well.
