Well, Joe90 or fred06 don't seem to fit any of the lore or backstory. That's a pretty good indicator to go by. When in doubt, defer to the existing developer designed content, or ask a GM. I don't think "HunnyBunZ" qualifies as appropriate based on the genre, backstory/lore, or the naming policy for that matter.

I guess I would rather see more content compatible names than "pop culture gone nuts" names. One of the things I like about Ryzom is that the artwork is so well done, it's visually easy to get lost in the game and escape my horrid day at work... but when someone runs by with a dorky name, it pulls me back out of the "escape" like someone with a really loud cellphone in the middle of a movie theater. lol

But that's just me. ;)

Like has already been said, Joe90 doesnt exactly sound like a sci fi/fantasy name, but it is. Which means fred06 is equally viable lol :)

Theres nothing that says your name has to fit in with the lore though is my point...its just a preference of some people.

"Names in Ryzom should be related to the Science Fantasy genre.
Nevrax encourages that you choose a name that reflects Science Fantasy culture."

So Fred06 still stands, taken from the joe90 vein :)

Well true, there isn't anything that specifically states "names must fit the lore", though it certainly is implied. I guess I'm a bit "old school" when it comes to choosing a name. I've always looked at names as a personal identifier, and sort of feel that a name that looks like it was auto-generated by AOL when you try to use a common screen-name (something like Bob012632345) you look like just don't care about being part of the game. But, it's just my opinion, and I certainly don't want to seem argumentative.

If the GM's approve, and it doesn't violate the naming policy, who am I to complain? I just prefer to see content-compatible naming. :)

I disagree. "Joe90" fits the Science Fiction genre (not Science Fantasy), which is specifically prohibited by the naming rules:

No....lifting names from these genres is specifically prohibited, not using derivations from...thus fred06 still stands.

Joe90 is clearly against the naming rules - i wasnt debating that.

On a side note you cant even use numbers in your names, but im starting to like Fred06.
