Re: Missing Homin Report
Last night as I strolled back into Pyr (heading towards the Bar, where else?!) I started being able to hear "Abby" asking for help. She said she had lost her map, that she was trapped in a cold, dark place (though Ulyros later discounted some of this as Abby being a "dramatic soul"), that she had been walking down a dark alley and then it had all happened so fast. She was obviously frightened and mentioned that she could hear running water and that it was dripping on and around her (this says Fountain/Baths to me, which is the places I was near at the time). Many Homins searched all over the city but then she started screaming that it had come for her and that she was being chased and then she simply stopped screaming.
The Significant points about this (other than the fact that another poor Homin has been killed :/) are the Map (Did Bile not have one also? - Also, why would Abby need a Map, she'd been here for years, living on the streets. She should know them better than anyone) and the running water. The sound of running water is pretty specific and could be a key in placing where the snatcher is operating from. It's possible even, that Southgate was always operating from around the Fountain/Baths area but doesn't care about being so careful as to go down to the SouthGate and is merely trying to complete it's task in a blood-soaked feverpitch.
Drakfot - I looked at the other letter and the only words that seem to be distorted as some are in the second letter are:
Homins
Slaughtered
Knives (probably)
to be
sidles up
two
Okay - so I'm not sure about if it's all of "sidles up" and if Knives should be included so it would be good if someone else can confirm these.

Re: Missing Homin Report
A letter was discovered today in Miners Row in Pyr. Dirt-stained and written in what appears to be blood, it reads:
Heed my words!
Heed my words!
Re: Missing Homin Report
From that last letter it sounds like the Snatcher is planning on leaving Pyr, with his victims. If he succeeds in this we will loose all chances of finding him or freeing his victims, and everything we have done will have been in vain. Additionally there will be no telling where he will go; people could soon be disappearing from Yrkanis, Fairhaven or Zora. The Snatcher must be captured before he disappears into the desert. If he intends on taking his victims with him, he will somehow have to smuggle them out of the city. All citizins of Pyr should stay on their guard, and not allow the Snatcher a chance to escape his rightfull punishment.
Ofcourse, the letter could also be a ruse to distract our attention or lure us into a false sense of security.

Re: Missing Homin Report
Hmm this disapearing of Homins and killer is sth that realy worries me......If so many skilled and trained in finding misteries of Atys warriors and mages among us cann't find victim and chasing her criminal, like last time happened there might be other reason for this.....
We all know that both Kami and Karavans can use their powers to send homins to distant locations, it's called teleporting.....so maybe sth similar that hasn't been seen on Atys is involved- like small teleportation device or ancient spell that allows killer to suddently apear in front of victim and abduct her to faraway place beyond Pyr or even Atys.......? This may explains disapearance issue........
Now back on street .........

Re: Missing Homin Report
We met again at Cerakos gate in Pyr last night - us homin investigators and the hapless law-enforcement duo, Pecus and Ulyros (I won't tell you what they're being called in some quarters). Credit where credit is due though, they gave us some useful information: the dirt that stains the latest note didn't come from the surface of Atys, but beneath it.
Guards had been dispatched to search the Prime Roots but we're all aware just how intelligent these grunts are. Great at protecting our cities but always eager to interrupt our hunts when they get close. (Close enough that they can quarter the dead creatures for themselves, some say). With that said, a vigilante group was set up to take a peek for ourselves. Our target was Under Spring, as Uma pointed out the note might be hinting at that.
Two full squads of hardened fighters set off. Apart from us Samsara there was a sizeable group from Legion of Atys led by Toramo as well as the ever-present Drakfot. Tyilin and Goosen also boosted our numbers and other homins came and went along the trek that took us from Pyr to Dyron and then to the secret cave to Under Spring.
The roots were eerily quiet, even the constant drip of sap seemed subdued. There were no signs of the snatcher at the portal so we moved hastily to examine Deadtree Hole, after all, that's where I'd hide the bodies. There wasn't even a severed finger to be found there, so our next plan was to seek guidance from the Karavan and Kami.
On the way to speak to the Kuild representative we were ambushed by kitin! With the help of a lone harvester we turned things around and drove them back. Their death squeals still gnaw at my mind as I write this but this is an everyday occurance for travellers in the roots. The Zorai Kuild member had little to say although the sight of our bloodstained group may not have helped matters.
Well aware that we were pushing our luck down here and that there are more profitable pursuits, headed for the Kami who aids the teleportation process. At times it felt like we were going round in circles, back-tracking on our route but eventually we made it with minor skirmishes with the kitin. The Kami had even less to say than it's Karavan counterpart, perhaps they are even more shocked by this whole snatcher business than we are.
After searching just this small portion of one of the prime roots areas we were exhausted and starting to make mistakes in combat. I think the kitin sensed this and seemed to strengthen their onslaught. We decided it was time to get some fresh air and wait for other reports to come in. The investigation continues...

Re: Missing Homin Report
Since nobody else has reported this so far, I guess it falls unto me.
Last night I was making my round through the streets of Pyr, looking and listening for anything unusual or any news of the Snatcher, as has been my daily routine since I decided to involve myself in this affair. From one of the news vendors on Cheapside Market I obtained Rashan's report on the events of the previous day. (For an outrageous price I might add, it's only a piece of paper with letters on it! From what he dared to ask you'd think the report was stored in an amber cube.) From this report I learned that the Snatcher was suspected to be hiding in Under Spring.
Not that I questioned the capabilities of the brave vigilante group who had apparently scouted the area the day before and came up empty, but still I thought it couldn't hurt if I took a look down there myself. I teleported to the Kami altar and made my way to the camp of the Root Tappers. (Unlike some of my race I see no reason not to use Kami technology when it benefits us, we use their magic too after all.) The Root Tappers have patrolls all over Under Spring and would surely know everything going on there. Just barely had I entered their camp when news came to my ears that the investigators from Pyr had tracked down the Snatcher and were gathering volunteers in Dyron. So I immediatly said my goodbyes again and invoked another teleport pact.
I arrived in Dyron early, and thus watched the group of volunteers steadily grow from merely a dozen to a sizeable army. Or perhaps lynch-mob, as some described it, would be a more accurate term. Anticipating that we wouldn't get the Snatcher without a fight, the homins present soon started forming teams. As the crowd was getting restless, eventually Ulyros and Pecus arrived, late as usual, and told us why we had been summoned. The guards had scouted Under Spring and determined the Snatcher's victims were indeed held there, but they had obviously not been able to rescue them and needed our help to do so. Thus our volunteer army headed out to the Under Spring entrance.
After entering the Prime Roots, Pecus and Ulyros informed us that the four hostages were likely kept at seperate locations, and that we would need to split into four groups to find them all. This caused quite some confusion amongst the gathered homins. Not unnatural ofcourse, we were volunteers, not an organized army. And from the recent battles with the cutthroats we had gotten used to simply rushing in all together and defeating whatever opposed us with our overwhelming numbers and firepower. Nevertheless, after a while we managed to form four groups, with Spriteh, Jyudas, Chestor and Ayud as our group leaders. I ended up in Chestor's group myself.
Once organized, we all headed out deeper into the roots to find the Snatcher's victims. Soon we started hearing their echoed cries throughout the cave. Faint, coming from far away, they called out to us asking for help. Some of us shouted back, trying to reassure them, or asking them where they were. But they were obviously terrified, not used to being in such a dangerous place as this, and couldn't give us any directions.
As the groups made their made south, they spread out and lost sight of eachother. There was some more confusion, as groups were made up of multiple teams. My own team lost track of Chestor at one point. Each group had to fend for themselves against the many predators and kitin inhabiting this part of the roots, and after a while more calls for help sounded through the cave. This time not from the Snatcher's victims, but from groups that had fallen to the hostile creatures, some of the most powerfull and deadly known on Atys. The group I was in, following the east wall, met it's end at Sap Marsh. Though we fought bravely, even with the help of the Root Tappers we proved to be no match for Vorkoo.
The homins regroupped at the north portal and went in for a second attempt. This time we were more succesfull. As our group slowly made it's way past Sap Marsh, fighting over every meter, reports came in from other parts of the cave that several hostages had been found and were being led back to the surface. After some difficult skirmishes we eventually located Rosine along the east wall. Unfortunally, only moments later a kitin patrol located us, and proceeded to make short work of us. It was only due to the efforts of some capable group members, who had managed to escape the onslaught and came back to heal us, that our rescue mission wasn't a complete failure.
We took Rosine back north, but by this time we had lost half of our group and we had to move carefully. After defeating a group of bandits blocking our path, we paused for a minute at Sap Marsh Trade Post to regain our strength and questioned Rosine about her kidnapping. She did not remember much, all she could tell us was that the Snatcher was definitely a homin, she thought. It seemed by now the other groups had already succeeded in escorting Xyrila, Bile and Abyribus to the surface. Thus we moved on quickly and made it to the exit with just minor difficulties. There we met with Ulyros and Pecus who joined us for our last leg to Dyron.
Safely back in Dyron, the rescued homins gratefully rewarded the group leaders with what I heard were kitin larva they had found down in the roots while they were captured. Afterwards they were taken by the investigators for questioning and medical attention. Our mission was complete and I was exhausted, so I didn't stay around long enough to learn if there was a victory party afterwards. (To be honest I fled after seeing... well, that's best not told )
During all this, there was no sign of the Southgate Snatcher. It remains to be seen whether we spoiled his plans by freeing his victims, or whether he wanted us to and we played into his hands.

Re: Missing Homin Report
Yes, there was a gathering of many brave Homins last night, all out to find the ones thad had been taken away.
At first we were struck by the change upon arriving into the Roots and that we were so many gathered.
As dear Sidusar says it was some disorder but we soon found a way to organize ourselves.
It was then we heard the screams and cries from the ones we were there to find, they were alone, frigthened and cold. They were so scared that they almost tried to flee to wherever their feets could carry them.
I tried to talk to them as much as I could to calm and ensure them that helkp was on the way, that they will see the sun of Atys once more. Hopefullt it helped them a little as after a short while we managed to find them.
The group I was with found Xyrila, she was dressed in poor rags as clothing, she had scars over her arms and legs from sitting shivering on the hard ground of the Roots. Her hands where dirty, and her eyes red from crying. When she first saw us she drew back in fear as she thought of us to be the foul person that had taken her away. But after a second she saw that our extended hands were not there to harm her, but to help her get home again.
I gave her some water as her throat were all soar from crying and screaming. She seemed a bit calmer when she had got the water. We then tried to get her to follow us towards the portal that would take her back into the suns light. Her first steps were a bit limping as she had been sitting there on the ground for some time, and I can guess that the small wounds on her legs made their part to harden it for her to move. Yet still she wanted to get back home that she did not care for such simple things as a few wounds. She stood up and followed us towards the exit.
After many runnings and avoiding attacks from the foul fauna in the Roots we reached the portal. Xyrila stopped for a few seconds, doubting to go through it. I guess that she thought that she should be alone again, that we would not follow her. It was then Spriteh took her hand and said to her "Come my friend, I will follow you, you will not be alone again" while walking with her through the portal.
On the other side, as I came through the portal, Xyrila sat down and gave the desert sands of Fyros a kiss of welcome, I could see it in her eyes that she was home, she felt safe. We then took her to Dyron as asked by Ulryos and Pecus.
Once we reached Dyron we all sat down, gripping the feeling that we had done it, they were safe. And you can only imagine the addition of joy when we heard the voices of the other Homins. Everyone was there, finally they were there.
Ulrtos and Pecus soon arrived to congratualte us on our efforts.
And even so Rosine, Xyrila, Bile and Abyribus handed over gifts of thankfulness to those that lead each one of the searchparties.
As i was to leave from the trainers place, where we took them to rest, I was told by a member of my team to accept a gift of thanks for rescueing Xyrila. I saw that he held a small bag with dappers. I looked at the bag, then at Xyrila that stood a bit away, and I told him. I told him to give the dappers to Xyrila, she needed them far much more than me. I hope that she took them back, as I hope that they could at least bring her some new clothes. She had been gone, missing, and now found again.
The task we did in retriving her was an easy one compared to the one she now faces. Now she must start rebuild her life, to trust Homins again. And as what i could see in her eyes, she will get through, she will manage.
Xyrile, Bile, Abyribus and Rosine my friends I am so glad that you are back among us again, I am overjoyed to be able to carry the memory of your faces and voices the day when you resturned to the surface of Atys.
Be there anything my friends, and I mean anything at all please do not hesitate to ask or contact me. I am here for you, always.

Re: Missing Homin Report
My warmest congratulations to the teams involved with the heroic rescues but does no one else think it strange that these miserable wretchs should each manage to find a Kitin Larva ? -one of the most sort after resources and something usualy only to be found within a strongly guarded Kitin nest
Where was Southgate and why did he leave his prisoners able to talk and summon aid ?
This just doesnt seem right , were the Kitin Larva thougherly inspected ?
I strongly urge the recipients of those "gifts" to seek a Sage wise in the ways of such things to varify they are what they appear and have not been tampered with or altered in some diabolical fashion
Caution and vigilance , Southgates motives are still unclear and I fear this is only the begining of his evil plan

Re: Missing Homin Report
No, that's me. Sorry, I need to sign IC reports with my character's name. It won't happen again, promise.
Anyways, some OOC comments on the event, since this seems to be the only place for them:
I enjoyed this event more than the two cutthroat invasions. All we had to do to win those was keep hacking and blasting until no bandit remained. This time the goal wasn't just to kill everything in sight. But most importantly this time our huge army was split into smaller groups, each with their own goal and having to fend for themselves. This meant to succeed the groups had to actually be carefull about what they were doing and coordinate with the other groups. For me, this did a lot more to create an atmosphere of being one of a large numbers of homins working together towards a common goal, than did being amongst dozens of homins mindlessly charging into battle together.
My group had some pretty close calls. Just before we found Rosine, our group leader Chestor was only 10 seconds away from respawning. And the rules were only the group leaders could 'rescue' the victims, so we were 10 seconds away from having to walk all the way back to get him. Just after we found Rosine and the patrol came down on us, if I recall correctly only Alegra was left alive, and had to res us with vorax and kirostas still prowling around. It was certainly a lot more exciting than the mass-scale battles I'd previously been in.
However, this event did show once again that we are in desperate need of either the ability to make teams of (a lot) more than 9 people, or the ability to make 'teams of teams'. And a sort of event chat channel to communicate across regions would've been usefull too.
