The last ambercube were "given" to Demela from Desenna yesterday, after a pursuit in the roots, and half a hour with nuking.

This homin is scratching his head as well... It does bring me back to the "To The Nexus" event.

The event was based around the Karavan & Kami calling their forces in to retrieve "some strange sap source or artifact"... Also referred to as a "relic" in some of the official postings. In this case the kitins were certainly given intelligence enough to not only hold the artifact, but for the boss to control and direct his minions to protect the relic. This "may" be the triad ?

3 Factions which control armies, be they homins or mobs. 3 Portals that ONLY come and go to Prime Roots. Already mentioned here is the 3 tribes in Nexus, each fairly unique in lore... One of three, three of one... Hmmm....

The last part of the riddle also recalls me back to the Nexus event... Our victory (Karavan) was lessened when there was word that somehow an infiltrator escaped with something... this was not explained so well at the time... This infiltrator does/did exist, I am/was aware of his location... Does this "Karavan Infiltrator" hold the key we need.

I hope I am not throwing any other good ideas offtrack, but some of your thoughts have really pointed to past snippets of information for me try and piece together.

(OOC, not really willing to rack up DP verifying this if the engine for it is not activated... I doubt the NPC moved, also doubt it's more than an NPC at this point... the story piece may not be IG yet, awaiting an event)

Homins, I bring you tidings from Marshal Phanasa.

"I bring you dark tidings friends, there is a lot to say so I shall start at
the beginning.

There were three more pieces of the amber left to collect; Wormbreath had two and there was one as yet unlocated (the kitin's head piece).

Wormbreath was confronted twice, in Fairhaven and then Yrkanis and
eventually gave into the pressure Deamla, Sanantia and the homins brought to bear on him. He has vowed his revenge on them for this.

With these two pieces back in safe hands, there was one last piece to
collect. The map of clues gave us a difficult riddle to its location:

The final piece for which ye seek.
That have shaken the roots and made us weak.
Look among a triad but don't take long.
One of three or three of one, search and find the proper one.

What is beautiful may yet hide evil.
Find the right one and you will reveal.
The last piece that some conceal.

After many guesses, it turns out it pointed to Desenne, who shook the roots
of Atys with her spell those months ago. This was done with the help of the
twins (three of them so a triad), and Desenne is their master so she is the
one.

The call went out last night to search for Desenne, and I and some of the
other Marshals set out for the cities to search. Desenne appeared in
Fairhaven and taunted Deamla with the amber. A powerful task force of homins set out to track her down. She was not easy to follow as she kept going invisible often, and many a time the group was left looking at each other with no clue where to go.

After travelling all the way to the Trench of Trials prime roots, Desenne
finally agreed to face the homins. The battle was long and Desenne was a
powerful foe; shot after shot struck her and she did not appear to feel it. Many blades were parried by her skill. However, the sheer force finally
encouraged her to concede and grudgingly hand Deamla the amber. Desenne then disappeared into the surroundings, and Deamla gave me the amber wanting nothing more to do with it after the pain it had caused her. As the party set off for a meeting at Min-Cho to decide what to do next, Deamla admitted her concern for the events that had taken place, how it seemed that Desenne actually wanted them to take the amber from her.

We arrived in Min-Cho, and this was where everything went wrong. I gave the seer the last piece of amber to examine, while the homins and us discussed what to do next. The seer meanwhile was mumbling to himself. He took out a box, a very mysterious type of box of unknown material. He opened it and took out the rest of the amber already complete apart from the last piece! He had been under orders not to put it together. Before we could stop he slid the last piece of the amber into place; it neatly fitted and the amber appeared as if it had never broken. The runes on the amber arranged into some readable form, and the seer quickly read them before we could stop him.

We then all watched in horror as the amber rumbled, and the kitin awoke. It
smashed through the amber and leapt through the seer's head and burrowed
into the ground. The seer was dead and the kitin had escaped.

Worse still, Deamla, who has been acting strangely since being stranded in the PR for over a week, turned mad! She shouted at everyone and complained that no-one ever followed her orders, picked up the amber and the box and stormed out saying she quits the Council of Marshals!

Soon after she raided our headquarters, killing 3 guards and injuring
another 4, and then burned it all down. She is on the loose, and very
dangerous, do not cross her path. I am currently looking to track her down
and reason with her, although this is a dark time for the council, and we
are on the edge of breaking.

While Deamla was storming out, Desenne reappeared. She claimed that she had summoned the amber to the surface with her spell all those months ago, and that we had done exactly what she wanted us too. She then claimed we had triggered our own downfall by completeing the amber, laughed and disappeared once more.

This is a very troubling situation homins, and all of the remaining council
members are looking into it. I shall keep you all informed.

-Marshal Phanasa"

On the amber being dangerous...
glipe wrote:I was thinking about that a while ago. Who could possibly have left these pieces scattered about if it was such a powerful weapon against the kitin? Why break it up when the Kitin threat has not ended? Seems to me that these pieces were split up for a reason and not by the Kitin. Has anyone thought to ask the Kami or the Karavan ambassadors about it? Or possibly the Guild of Elias, as they seem so knowledgeable? I agree that we should collect these pieces to stop them falling into the wrong hands but we should remember that even with the best of intentions behind them, they could be our hands too unless we tread carefully.

After relaying the story as he heard it from Marshal Phanasa, Tarhaien look around excitedly. "I still can't believe these things are happening," He said, constantly glancing around him as if his trust in his fellow homins was completely lost.

"So, let me get this straight," Suibom said, trying to piece the story together with other information he had recently been accumlating. "It was in Min-Cho that the tear was completed, by the hands of a Zorai seer."

"Exactly!" Said Tarhaien eagerly. "It is as you were saying, Ma-Duk must be behind this! The Dragon is controlling the Kami followers! We must spread the word. We must prepare!"

Suibom sat down, contemplating and slightly concerned about the way his friend was acting. "Those were not things I said, only reports of things I have heard." Suibom told Tarhaien, hoping to calm him down. "We must keep this quiet for now. Thank you for the information, Tar. Please, continue to keep your ears open and let me know if you find any further information."

Tarhaien smiled, said his farewells and left the room eager for more information. Suibom looked out the window at the city below. "It does appear the Kami threat is real. Unless..." Suibom trailed off in thought.
