I consider myself a RPer, but I have to say that sometimes I find it very hard and easy to "slip". For those that don't like RP, it can be frustrating when you try to get in character but just can't, for whatever reason.

Two very important things to consider.

1. Respect the other person's playstyle as you want them to respect yours. If you don't RP and an RPer feels the need to interact with you, just whisper them and tell them you'd prefer not to. The RPer should move on. If they persist, then I agree with a former post that they are griefing.

2. An RP character is not perfect! Meaning that there is no way for them to always be consistent inasmuch as we players can't be. One of the things that's always bothered me is when I get called on being ooc when I was trying to be IC. It's hard sometimes. Getting called on it feels discriminatory. So non RPers give the RPers who respect your playstyle some slack both on the boards and in game.

I RP to make the game more interesting than the bits and bytes it really is. Games I can't RP in I tend to get bored with as I don't have any attachment to my character and it's easy to dump it and find another game. I hope that I can bring the same enhancement to another players experience, but if I can't or you don't want me to, just say so. I will not be offended.

Just one more thing, as if I never have anything to say. ;)

RPing a bad guys is fine, but there are consequences. If someone is rude to you and they claim to be in IC, that's fine, but they shouldn't expect non-RPers to just accept his/her RP. Be accountable as a player for your character's actions.

Newsflash Part I: Geeks expect to be treated as "creepy" and "frightening".

Newsflash Part II: We don't care.

Newsflash Part III: We will likey be the ones whos name is scribbled at the bottom of your check someday. (or at the very least the ones whos ass you kiss so we'll come fix your computer :D )

Newsflash Part IV (I must be a geek, since I know how to properly write "4" in Roman Numerals): Unless you swing around a pickaxe to dig up amber and dung resin in your backyard for a living, or wander around the neighbor hood healing skinned knees while jumping up in the air twirling around in a cloud of aethir, or slap on your 2-h sword and heavy armor to go vanquish the next door neighbors pit bull when he's barking at 2AM...You are roleplaying in RoS.

KThxBai.

Oh...and Newsflash Part V: You are a geek to 99.999% of the worlds population simply for the fact that you waste hours on end playing a video game on the internet, whether you "roleplay" or not.

Enjoy your newfound status, grab a pocket protector and tape your glasses in the middle, cause you are Officially a geek!

P.S. Whatever ruler you chose to judge others with, expect to get judged with the same ruler. If you think you are "cool" because you dont RP...yet spend hours and hours watching your little toon dig imaginary rocks out of imaginary dirt, but someone who says "thee & thou" is a geek...uhh...yeah, do the math.

Of course geeks are threatening, their carnival performers who's act is to bite the heads off of chickens (or bats at Ozfest). Perhaps you were thinking of a nerd, a non-threatening Dr. Seuss character.

But pocket protectors! Man, have you ever seen a pocket protector, much less seen one in use? Well my uncle gave me one once, but I can't say I ever used it. I have, on occasion, gone around with tape-repaired glasses (heading the ball with your nose is bad technique), and I do own several slide rules, but that makes me...what's the word...er, um...a geezer. Yea, that's it, I'm a geezer.

So the consensus seems to be, when bad behaviour is justified by "roleplaying."

The player needs to be accountable for their character's actions. They can't just blame it on RP as it disrespects the people they are RPing to. It's poor form.

If they are a jerk IC, then treat them like a jerk and you'll be RPing too. ;)
