Mat spec ? Umm that is defined in the game .. if you didnt read it .. sorry
Source Modes ? Ok .. there was an exploit here, but it didnt make much difference to anyone who was harvesting for XP. Sure it made things a little easier by slightly decreasing downtime, but really it may have gained someone a level or two more than someone who didnt use the actual exploit.

You still have no told me what advantage they had aside from maybe that they figured things out faster than you. Again, this isnt their fault.
Yes Mat spec. Was there any indication in the manual that stated you were able to get higher quality from sources when your level of extraction only allowed a certain ql? Mostly only the beta players and those people they told really knew this. Remember I am a tryker, I didn't have any ql 100 sources except mission ones in easily available areas to experiment. Since you couldn't use mat spec on mission mats, it didn't seem apparent this actually helped any. When I finally made it to ql 100+ sources all I was interested in was getting enough mats to level my crafting. Lo and behold someone finally told me how fast you could level with mat spec and I said great! let me go and get it... Next day they patched and it was no longer available. So excuse me if I am a little miffed about it.

If I had been accepted in focus beta and knew about this stuff, I'd have been just as high level as the rest of those people. I spend just as much time playing as they do. I only learn things from other people since there is really no explaination on how some of the bricks worked. If there was, maybe I wouldn't have been so agitated. Now the patch will "Balance" this. How does it affect me that they are higher? The fact that they can pull out 10 root mats for every 4 I pull. The fact that I will always level slower in crafting because I won't get as many mats per pull as they would even though I spend as much time grinding as they do.

I don't want to waste my time. I suggest you don't either.

In all honesty... I hardly used mat spec, since it was a 10 cost brick, and would kill my focus and wouldn't get me any more quantity out. Why would you have a huge concern over pulling out higher Q mats than what you can use? And the difference between in quantity pulled isn't as huge as you would expect. Sure they can pull more in one extraction than you. But thats mainly because they are using a higher source time. At lvl 100 you can use prospect with source time 1m, and accelerated prospection 4. This means every 1m4s you can (on a -32 credit) pull either 6x q100 or 4x q150. At 60, you can use source time 45s and accelerated prospection 3. And pull out 4x q100. So in 51s you get 4 mats. Or about 1 mat every 13 seconds. At lvl 100 its 1 q100 mat every 11s, or 1 q150 mat every 16s. So you aren't gaining much (maybe 1 more mat a minute between those 2 examples if you are pulling for quantity, not quality). And if you are pulling higher Q you actually pull slower. Now if you can only use q100 mats for crafting, why on Atys would you worry about getting more xp by pulling higher Q and lower quantity?
People estimate its around 400+ mats per level at 100+ crafting. Entertainingly enough at 100-125 harvesting, I was pulling 400+ q100 mats per level. Anyone wanna try and call this a coincidence?

Try looking at the entire mechanics of the system instead of just how this 1 thing affects you in the specific way that you do it. Sometimes taking a different perspective can open up whole new worlds.

The main effect is the leveling zzei.. At level 91 I am getting 1300 xp per mat. With the mat specialization it is upwards of 3k per mat. Thats at least twice as fast leveling and less wasted time. Your examples are always showing levels that you just received the new ql level in. Try at level 90 when you are still pulling ql 99 mats from most sources over 100 and ql100 from ql100 sources. The difference is staggering.

sir i'm pulling q99 mats out of a q150 source at lvl 125, 700-800xp a pull when i get 5-6 mats. And like I said before...

Dun dun DUNNN! Read all the patch notes.

You'll now be able to raise your QL ability in increments of 10 instead of 50.

In all actuallity, this does have the potential to mean that you'll advance faster than those who used mat spec, since they were maybe pulling 150's at level 99 and you can pull 190s.

you a little (well really frigging) off on that. at level 99 you can pull q100, at level 100 it'll be q110.

True, but you get my point. :) And it's quite possible the 49/99/149/199 bug has been fixed in the patch.

Aye I was really looking forward to pulling level 150 once I hit level 100. Now theres no point to get to 100 as everything is now slower again because it will always be crappy xp no matter what level I get to.

If I want to waste my time I'll go do it in another game. This game currently has no real attractions in the way of anything but a slow grind to boredom.

I believe I saw a post of a review of WoW around here somewhere. Either that or try CoH, I hear those have fast grinding. =)

Or you could progress at a moderate pace and look towards the future in a long term aspect. Only thing you get now for being high level in harvest is a slight improvement in the mat/time of the lower Q usable mats(and 0xp), and one heckuva dp potential. Try working off a near 300k-400kdp/death because you were the first one to race to lvl 250 in 1 branch of skill. Now you are going to have to use MUCH lower lvl skills to work it off. (3kxp using a level 50 skill = 15kdp, @100 = 30kdp). Sounds like alot of work all of a sudden just to clear the dp from 1 death so you can level crafting....

Leveling up fast in ryzom may have some advantages, but from what I've seen, they don't outweigh the disadvantages to unbalancing your levels.
