Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Hello Friends, I am hopeful for the success of Rysom. It has been a great game so far and I will continue to play it. My friend and I are veteran beta testers, and veteran mmorpg ers. We have done everything from EQ to AO, Shadowbane, DAoC...you name it. We both like the looks and the feel of this wonderful world. The beauty is at times breath taking, I venture to say hang in there gang, if AC2 can make it...so can we. :p I also beta tested Wish....is that not another one of the Themis Groups projects, or associations?

The other night, I was listenting to regional chat on the NA server. On who appeared to be a beta tester was relating a recent chat he had with a GM. He said the GM was very concerned over Ryzom's success as the NA registration was only about 800, and that the european servers weren't much better.

I only hope that it is not true!

I wouldn't beleive what that person said to you. For one no GM is going to tell a player how many people are registered on a server. Second of all no GM is going to talk with a player about their worries that the game might not make it. They are there to help players, monitor players, and present a very positive attitude upon the game.

This was not said to me directly, it was said on region chat, I just happened to be listening at the time. But no matter. So, perhaps this person was just trying to make himself look important?

And speaking of region chat, what was going on last night? I was in the Matis capitol city of Yrkanis and in over a half hour there were exactly 4 words spoken. I said "quiet tonight" and a minute later the response, "sure is".

for real. especially to create a new character in themes as tired and boring as blizzard's warcraft series and the-same-old-same-old EQ, redux.

There is no getting around the repetition of the Warcraft theme, that will be there of course. But, "the-same-old-same-old EQ, redux"? I wouldn't be so sure of that. I have read a fair amout about WoW and it definitely has some new stuff, stuff that hasn't been done before, stuff that, if done right, will make for a nice game!

Yes, I was a Tyker betaer, and I love the race. BUT, when I heard that there were issues, rather than getting stubborn, I tried other races. That is NOT copping out. To me that is being wise. I have two Trykers waiting, names saved from Beta days, for the day when the Tryker fixes are in. THEN...POP I will come back as Lorris and Breya.

As much as I love Trykers, and their plucky nature, I am not willing to drudge through a character again. And I do NOT expect anyone else to either.

I have played to 63 forager, 45 fighter, 32 mage (offensive, def is 25), 40's crafter in Fyros and have a baby Matis still on noobieland. I have to say that both have a group of characters/players that are HELPFUL and caring. I have found a few this week in pyr that have helped me find nodes, a few are asking for amps, and I will give them a GREAT discount for the help they have done for me.

I enjoy the fact that this game has things to do solo, and even MORE to do as ONE group, small or large or GANG sized. I can only imagine what a rather large guild could do. I am a bit skitish about guilds, too many bad EQ guilds *shudders*, but I am rather certain I will find one eventually and join it.

I seriously advice the Trykers to either LEAVE their homelands ASAP, or take up another race alt for a few months. You have VALID issues, and I understand them, I have felt them (if only during crash test beta). And I DO feel that they should be in the top Four or five on the fix it list. But...I don't see them as a reason to leave. First off, the devs have stated that they KNOW about them and they are working on them. You are NOT forgotten... we are not forgotten.

Well, I preordered EQ2 and when I get it we'll see. But I'm already planning on cancelling my sub here I think. Of course, I'm a Tryker so maybe I'll try another character before calling it quits.

When I started playing (only about 4 days ago), I really liked it. Well, after I got into it. The interface, window bugs, log in, patching process all scream amateur. Like so many other reviews I've read I wanted to return the thing right away without playing lick. I couldn't get my credit card accepted, despite the fact I've never had a problem with any other games including other euro games like EVE which I have two accounts. The world is intially stunning, the animal behaviors unique and enjoyable, but then the facade seemed to lift. Now, I barely have a desire to log on. I haven't found anything to do but hunt, forage, or craft. I do understand that these are the essential elements of any RPG, but story and depth is what keeps people wanting to do these things over, over, over, and over again.

The quests are quests which tell you to hunt, forage, or craft, and I've run around my little tryker continent and everything looks pretty much the same. Dungeons? I haven't made it to the prime roots yet, so I don't know but I here you can't even get in without dying.

Beautiful world, combat which is somewhat engaging, but about as shallow as City of Heroes from what I can tell. I'll see if EQ2 sucks, probably try WoW also, but unfotunately at this point this game isn't going to hold me. Not to mention my credit card won't get accepted by them, and I'm not going to make my fiance pay for a game a barely want to log into. I was willing to leave the french factor out of it, but as for the game that I can't overlook :)

tetra wrote:I see lots of trykers running around and escaping from trykerland :p

I don't think you will find most of them in tryker lands though

We had a few join the Pyr region a week or so back. As I recall they were met with warmth and a "hail and welcome, Friend". There were many Fyros that saw them and extended a hand of friendship.

As to the number of 800 in the NA playerbase...I don't think it is ANYWHERE that low. I can find 100 or more online at ANYtime of the day or night. (yes, I have random boughts of insomnia and have been online midnight or midday).

I found Matis noobland FULL, about 10 to 20 roaming around each town, during Central time prime time play. I found Fyros noobie lands FULL. Yes it doesn't SEEM full, until you scroll out the compass to FULL range and count the little "other player" dots, or do a /who and realize that is for THAT region, not that server.

In order to get a TRULY accurate count, you would have to have a character in EACH region in the game. I have NO idea how many regions that is, but ALOT.

Short form I do not buy the number of 800. There are TWO in this household, I grouped with about eight or nine others last night and there were two married couples and a brothers team.

I still stand by my feelings that this game with not only survive, but also THRIVE.

Most players group, or are in a guild. And with the chat windows as they are...it is HARD to hunt AND keep up with another chat window other than team. I spent a GREAT night hunting with a group, it was fun, funny and warm. I didn't even OPEN regional chat window for more than five hours...it might have been..."a quite night" out there, but it was a riotous good time for me. I am rather sure that I was not alone.

If you are EVER in the Pyr region, and see me in either Regional chat or in a /who, feel free to drop me a line. If we are close enough in level, we can group. OR listen for groups, they are out there, and some are NOT that picky about who joins up, friend or stranger.
