*gasps* That hurts, Zyr...I thought we had some good times with Larry. *grins*

Anyway, as far as cats are concerned, it would make sense to me to get rid of all the cats below q150. Far too many new players come off Silan and have cats dropped in their laps. The amount of xp needed to gain levels when so new to the game is already low, and with cats these new players become spoiled, and fail to appreciate the beauty that is Ryzom, as they are so busy running around with cats on the brain and hyper-leveling. Offering cats of q150 or higher as a reward for solid time put in on Atys makes more sense than getting rid of them altogether.

And with my humble opinion submitted, I must take my leave...

*Gives a hug* No hurt intended Hon, and yes, pain that he is, Larry has been a part of the fun. And tbh, I think you have enjoyed a little more freedom now that you don't have to hold my hand nearly as much! :D

If the choice is cats or no cats, then I will have to go with no cats, giving an advantage to no one, but feel there is a happy medium for all involved. What that medium is will have to be discussed at length by the entire comminity, not the 100 or so regular posters. Part of that "happy medium" is to make sure that guild membership has nothing to do with who gets cats, and if they are to be earned, then there should be a way for all levels to earn them (granted not in the mass quantities they are around now). Like an earlier post stated, if they are earned, they will have greater value, and imao, be used more wisely.

Another good point
Many lower level regions are deserted, because players level so fast they bypass that level range in a couple of days.
Thats a huge waste of world. The effort that went into creating Fleeting Garden, or Maiden Grove, just so someone can spend half a dozen hours killing plants then move onto the next region ?
I know the game population is low, but shoving everyone into Void just makes the rest of the world even emptier.

That statement is totally incongruous with witha pro-cats position. It only makes sense in a "take em or leave em" position. When there's "two sides of a coin" it can't matter one way and not matter the other. How's this sound ?
"Really I'm saying quit gripping, no reason to leave cats in. Shouldn't allow their absence to get to you. If you let an item, or absence of it, effect hoe you feel, get the heck out of the game and get a real life lol."
Aye we do have two Ops, but we also have like 50 active members, anyone whom ever owned and op knows that, 2 ops are far to few to provide a large supply to all members daily. Unlike the guilds that have 4 members and an OP. I totally don't approve of that lol.
Well we have had an OP now for quite a bit of time and we certainly don't accept that argument. Why do you have to provide a "large supply to all members daily" ? What's wrong with a stack a day ? .... a day meaning one the player actually logged on. We "have owned an OP" and don't feel such need. Most of us never touch the things.

According to this then there's about 300 "active" people on server Since it's been previously argued in one of the PvP threads that the population is about 1/3 kami, 1/3 kara and 1/3 neutral.....then you are saying that 1/6th of all active players in game and 1/2 of all active kara players are in GoJ ? The most optimistic subscriber count I have seen is 400....but that includes all those who log in only for OP battles and those that pop in just enough to keep their accounts active.

How to you define an "active player" ?

Plays every day > 4 hours
Players ever day 1-2 hours
Plays at least 3 days a week > 2 hours each day
Plays up to 4 hours a week
Plays up to 2 hours a week

We have 20 active players and I am only including the 1st 4 categories in the definition of active. Out of 98 stacks per week, we were giving at least 48 to the Comm OP effort and, occassionally, 100 when they built up too high or Brave missed a collection.

*Our Usage = 14 x 7 x 1 OP = 98 - 48* = 50 / 20 = 2.50
Your usage = 14 x 7 x 2 OP = 196/50** = 3.92

* 48 is a miniumum
** seems overestimated

Cats can be a useful tool in certain situations. Most of our players lose the cat addiction by level 100. If ya can't find a team at your level and have aguildie 10 levels above then cats can equalize the difference rather quickly at which point they can be abandoned. By far most our cats are used fro crafting. I used them to dig PR for a while cause I wanted some decent armor but soon realized that it was waste of time because I'd master PR long before I had my HA to 200. It was kinda like rushing to get dressed to go out so I can sit in the car for 45 minutes waiting for my wife.

We use cats for the most part as follows:

-That dragging 248-250 run.....245 if we have a lot at the time.
-Crafting
-Get to level 100 so can walk around blue and yellow regions, "learn the ropes" and get digging up without getting eaten.
-To "catch up" to someone so you can level effectively as a team.

I can understand joining a guild, being impressed by all the powers the more senior players have and wanting to have all those skills to. But as the ole chinese monk said : "Yo..... dude .... it's the journey, not the destination". Gotta "stop and smell the cratcha".

When ya get to a point where you have to dig what seems endlessly ...... with no XP ..... just so you can bring ya MA boots up to the same level as MA vest, then you come to appreciate cats to a point were it seems wasteful to use whatever ya can get on anything but crafting.

Once ya make ya 1st 250 melee, what really is the point of rushing to get another ? What's to be gained by sticking a different pointie stick into a Mob as oppossed to the original pointie stick ?

The only answer I can think of is for example:

"Well we need more ranged peeps at OP battles so I'm power leveling ranged so we can have more OP's so we can have more cats so I can level more skills so we can have more OP's so we can get more cats to level more stuff so we can have more OP's .... pheww .... had to get off ....was getting dizzy goin in that circle.

I have played 12 hour days not getting one level. I spent the entire past saturday digging 600 mats. I was trying to dig, but some peeps were on I hadn't seen in a while and I was too busy chatting that I spent most of my time blown up, gassed or pulling a stack of QL30 mats cause I forgot to go to step 2. Thats where the joy is.

I got to 205 in DA and suddenly realized, holy crap....if I finish this I will have no magic left !!!! I haven't really used it since other than when using fear while digging in PR. Right now I am working on spreading out my 1h and 2h melee skills so that I will have a wide range of choices. When someone is anxious to work a 120 skill, I wanna have one.....an 140 skill, I wanna have one. What I don't want to do is be in a position to have a new guildie join and have nothing to work with him / her.

My biggest downer in the game is PMD - Post Master Depression. OK, I had a goal, I finished it, now what ? What's left ? If ya wanna play the game, finish it and move on to something else, cats rock.

even with 50 members a single q250 op would give each member 2 cats a week.

i get 1 to 2 cats a week depending on our supply.
quote from jared96
"In Ryzom, any advantage is reinforced over time. An advantage in 250 cats means one side can bring it's recruits to full strength in a much shorter amount of time. If we as little street kids could figure out a way to make their games more balanced, challenging and fun....I would think that a game company or even the players themsleves could come up with an idea or two."
