If we're going to discuss renaming it then I'd like to pass a motion for the C&A channel to be forwarded to the Karavan Faction channel in order to receive unbiased help and due discipline.

Seriously though, the Uni pop-up warning would be better made unblockable as suggested.

Edit: The MotD doesn't seem so harsh as you put it, Anissa. Dynamic rewording? :) "...The policy of Universe channel as Q/A only is being enforced..."

A few ruin it for all. Next thing ya know, they'll be taking out PR and ql 250 zone teleports because people whine about them too ;)

hmm.. i wonder if there is popup blocker for it.

its really simple to remind player on which channel they activated without annoying anyone.
just make channel specific MOTD... for uni, something like this:
--
Universe chat rules: This channel is for Q&A. keep other chatting minimum.
Universe chat rules: To send tell to CSR, ....
---
if you activate channel (in user tab for example), it will be displayed in /uni chat window.
if you log in, it will be displayed in /uni chat window.
if you close /uni window and disable it in user chat and later enable /uni again, same rules will be displayed in /uni window.

simple ?

currently its all backward. static welcome message "Welcome to Ryzom" on every logon, but important info like how to send tell to CSR is only added to dynamic MOTD when they dont have anything better to list there.... and to make things interesting, it's added to syslog window which will fill with other info pretty quickly and important info is lost. was supposed to be in around, but apparently devs forgot how to do that.

The Prime Roots hath no fury like an arbitrary authoritarian refered to by an historical name given to those famous for wanton arbitrary authoritarianism.

And I hear this morning that my guild now has a list of topics about which we may and may not converse and that we should feel free to check it if we are in doubt. I am amazed that citizens of a country so willing to claim Milton as it's own for the pretty bits, feels so free to toss him when he gets inconvenient, as say, on the topics of freedom of expression and prior restraint.

I have not one word of defense for those who spray uchat with puerile haverings, but I have not one word of compliance for those who yield to the will to domineer.

What a profound disappointment.

I agree the Universe Channel should be renamed Universal Q&A or something along those lines.

I disagree that chat should be allowed on a help channel, though I would not object to a separate universal chat channel.

A lot of the chat I see is pretty inane, usually the people that like talking to everyone aren't the ones I'm interested in listening to, even when it doesn't degenerate into talk about other games. Allowing chat on this channel would make many people either turn it off or at the least pay less attention to it, so fewer people would be answering questions.

So I'm glad they stepped up enforcement.

From day 1, the Universe Channel was for Q&A's only, i distinctly remember telling ppl about this when it was first introduced and the replies i got was, its new, of course ppl are going to play with it and abuse it.
Well i for one am glad it is being enforced now, but it should have been enforced from Day 1, many times i have refused to even look @ the Channel cause all you get is ppl asking for teams or asking for a rez or just general spam, some legitimate questions were getting ignored cause people like me refused to scroll through the Spam.

If you want new Channels for your spam, i suggest you all send in alot of tickets, enough tickets will more than likely get your channel.

Oh and i am pretty sure if a CSR was a bit strict with you it would have been for a reason, if you think otherwise, complain to a Senior GM or send in an email, of course the CSR's have their favourite players, they are human after all, but the forum's isnt the place to come slag them off, slagging them off here will only get your forum access revoked.

please note, this post wasnt intended to put anyone down, just stating the facts as they have been since day one, but since so many ppl ignored the rulz for the Channel, it is commonly thought it was ok until recently that you could talk about whateva you liked in Universe.

how hard can it be to rename the channel 'Help' or 'Q&A'? find the line of code with str 'Universe' and rename it, 5 minutes dev time? really...

Calling it universe will of course encourage people to chat. and agree 100% on either making the pop up explaining it pop up every time, or better the warning spamming the channel when you log in/focus. Regardless there will always be people who think its just great to talk about SWG/WoW/their favorite pizza, they will always need to be stamped on :)

The problem with the pop=up is it only comes up when you change your chat to universe chat, I know there are alot like me whom don't even bother, they just type /u "text" So makeing it always pop up would be pointless unless it popped up every time you typed /u "text" as well. from what I see when the channels are abused it's usually a hello or good bye thing. Occasionally chat will break out but it will die down rather quickly, typically to players reminding everyone it's Q and A only. Until a Gm notices the problem and makes some verbal warnings. Other then makeing it more clear that it's Q and A, I'd inforce aka mute the violators then announce they've been muted in the uni channel and the reasons why to discourage otheres from following along.
