I share some of your thoughts on other things but to keep in the spirit of this thread I am not going to go there :P [/OOC]
Well, we can always try polite and reasoned discussion, so, if I may ask, what would you suggest be done to stop players leaving due to the (percieved?) imbalance in outpost conflicts?

There is no end game concerning OP's whatsoever. They are a not tied into the faction stuff, which in itself is barely part of the game.

I would agree totally with this under one condition, there was no xp catalysers. These have beceome so integral to the game , sadly. Since this Discussion is on the Mass PvP system and not the end game i would think that Catalysers are way too important to see as "barely part of the game" since they allow players to gain master melee and master elemental far quicker than the oppostion.

Its common sense, if the US say invaded Ireland my country , we would be falttened in about 8 seconds :p . The only way we could keep engaging in hostilities would be guerilla attacks and sabotage ...

If some scenarios like this were effectively implemented into Ryzom it might make things more Fun, even and challenging??? maybe guilds taking suprise attacks on the Drills, u get a warning message, Guards pop to try and take on the attackers. if the attackers destroy the Drill, production is down for a day or two . Dapper would have to be used to repair , or maybe dug mats??

**edit, this idea could tie in with Redslayers idea of the towers being built by players around OPs for protection. It would finally make OPs use every skill there is.**

I would like to see this ingame.

I am going to go off topic a bit and address why I think people are leaving the game and what changes to the game should take place.

People are leaving the game for all sorts of reasons. PvP imbalance may be one, but I have my doubts as to it being at the top of the list. I imagine just as many people are leaving because their is no PvP end game. I imagine just as many people are leaving because one side can't seem to stay united for much longer then 25 minutes. I imagine people are leaving because the majority of OP holders have been squatting in place for over a year.

But the big reason people are leaving is the vast majority of ALL players leave ALL MMO's after 3 months. If you do not enjoy crafting or digging after three months you have pretty much done it all, not much reason to stay here beyond the average 3 month term.

I have said this a few times now, so I am going to have a Jyudas moment and repeat myself ad nauseaum. The problem is not PvP! The problem is the lack of an effective, worthwhile, cooperative, and constructive alternative to advance the factions and individual guilds. There needs to be a way to advance that is not dependent on players outside of an individuals guild or faction.

For example, In the temple war I was able to dig and get fame points, I might have been killed once or twice while I was digging, but it was an easy respawn back, no dp, and I could just start digging again until I got found by the zergs. I managed to go from 220 something to master level digger, sure I died a lot, but I obviously dug a lot during that time as well. I also got alot more fame points then the players who concentrated on the PvP part. That was a fun event, something for everyone, hunter, digger, crafter, politician and preacher.

I think it is time the game moved past OP's. We need to open it up more so that every guild that has the resources can build something. Faction PvP can be focused on a new target, a new goal. Perhaps conquering new territory or controlling resource beds in the old lands for diggers. Just something, anything, the community is getting tired of fighting over OP's.

Pero

Though that question isnt directed at me i'd still like to answer it, and while I certainly dont speak for DT i imagine im thinking along the same lines.

Nothing needs to be done to stop players leaving due to the perceived imbalance in outpost conflicts. You cant move the posts after kick off. The fact that one side would be the underdog, and one would be on top was inevitable. The fact that people dont like this is basically unavoidable, in any competition there is a winner and a loser.

So attempting to change the op mechanics now would be outrageous, and would just make those who have currently worked pretty hard to dominate the op situation lose faith in the developers and the game.

Instead, as previously discussed, some of the rewards from op ownership should be made available from other sources. So those who arent particuarly interested in pvp dont feel the 'loss' so much.

Mmm, rebalancing is often done post-release (oh dear gods... the NWN / NWN 2 forums "wah, where is my permahaste??"). But obviously they shouldnt take away OPs from current owners even if the mechanics change for future battles.

Still, I agree, if PvP-only reward content was made otherwise available that would certainly take at least some of the pressure off. Not a solution to the PvP imbalance, but means it doesnt have so much bearing on the rest of the game.

Well the hope was that the R2 reward system would do something about that, but the crystals from that weren't equal in utility and haven't been implemented and we have no idea how many would be given out by it... so... yeah, limbo.
