beeryusa wrote:This thread is ALL about whether I (that's just me) can fit into the game. That's why I posted the question in the first place. It's not supposed to be a 'one size fits all' discussion about how the game can suit a whole segment of the gaming population; nor is my opinion supposed to be a critique of world-shattering import. I don't see how discussing one person's preferences and one person's place in the game can be blowing things out of proportion, as my preferences are only relevant to me, and if I decide I don't like the game that decision need have no impact on anyone else.

There have been a variety of suggestions and opinions posted in this thread about how to make the game work for you if you liked the game enough to want to make it work for you.

If the information provided has been of little help in your decision making process, then the only way you can see for yourself, is to subscribe. If you don't want to pay the 15 bucks to try it out, that's your choice.

Not knowing you personally... it is impossible to tailor the answer you want to hear. All people can do is offer some suggestions, and it's up to you to take it from there.
beeryusa wrote:I agree - let's keep things in proportion - it's not like the game will be shut down just because I decide I don't want to play it. Of course if you think that my opinion is representative of many more people I guess that's a possibility.

I think you misunderstood what I originally said, for I certainly do not believe your opinion to be representative of many more people.

Reposting what I said elsewhere on the subject of dancing:
Unfortunately we only get to do one dance move that lasts about 4 seconds.
You might have 115 moves if you factor in creative use of spells.

7 base affliction
7 base elemental
1 base heal (three types but all have basically the same animation)
49 possible affliction/elemental combinations using Atysian Afflicting Missile stanza
49 possible elemental/elemental combinations using Atysian Double Missile stanza
2 useful emotes (at least - /dance and /casual)
Jelathnia, Kasarinia, KianShi, Maethro, ShuaLi, and OPaxie (Arispotle)
TeiJeng (Leanon)

Unless you've experienced playing an entertainer in SWG it's very hard to convey what it is about it that's so great, and I'd be the first to admit that it's often misunderstood (even by some SWG entertainers) - and it's an acquired taste. The thing is, I can actually play my own compositions in SWG, and I've never been able to do that - not even in real life, because I'm just not musically inclined. Basically, you get to create your own content that's your own personal musical contribution to the game. I guess SWG's entertainer profession has ruined me for every other game - unless thay have entertainer content. That's why I'd like to see that playstyle here - because there are many other things I like about Ryzom - but without some entertainer content and without the 'Third Place' and a reason to go there, those things about Ryzom that I like are not reason enough to pay to play.

Let me put it another way - even though the entertainer profession has been ignored by the SWG developers since day one, and even though SWG is a terribly mismanaged game, I still keep my account open because I can go into a cantina at any time and do my show - and my show is always entertaining - both for me and others. If I don't get something like that same buzz here that I get from entertaining in that terrible game (SWG) I really see no point in playing.

In short, I would rather put money in the hands of a completely incompetent development team who at least let me play as I want in an otherwise terrible game, than put money into the hands of a great development team who run a great game that doesn't offer me the playstyle I desire.
Am I correct in assuming you want to have entertainer implemented into Ryzom as the sole reason for staying/subscribing ?.
You insist on playing an entertainer in a game that does not support this option, yet do not appreciate/accept/understand The forum replies I am reading in this thread which are offering encouragement, information, and suggestions........

edit - I know it sounds like a personal attack on you beeryusa, but I really get the impression you are to frustrated with sony to give ryzom a fair chance

Yes, you can turn Ryzom into a glorified chat program and do all your 'dancing' routines. It just takes more work that it would in SWG (you have to grind the ele levels and DA levels to get the larger animations as opposed to sitting in a cantina for about 20 hours just spamming flourishes).
so to sum it up for you:
Does this game have a set profession for dancing/chatting? no. we don't have instruments or dancing moves.
However, if you have the drive and desire you can use the other skills to make that profession. Will it be rewarding? Doubt it. The bars tend to be very empty unless an event is going on. Its not like Mos Eisley where people just go to idle or chat away, but there are always stables that people hang out at (Yrk for example).

EDIT: On the Sony mismanaging the game, I disagree. I've seen more work done on the game in the last two months than I've seen done on SoR in a year. Nor is SWG a 'terrible game'. I've found it to be a ton of fun and Infinity made it their new home. Simply because the Entertainer was nerfed during CU doesn't mean that the game is horrible. You also fail to notice that SOE is implementing expertise for all of the different profession (there is talk of Entertainer coming after Officer/Smuggler is done).

Anyway, back to Ryzom stuff :p

Most active entertainers welcomed those 'nerfs' that came in the CU but the CU has nothing to do with the current state of that game now, that complete revamp of the combat and profession system was thrown out when they did the NGE, the second revamp (within six months of the first) that this time changed nearly the whole game. The NGE turned it into a shallow adventure quest loot game and that's sad to see from it's pre NGE revamp sandbox system. They did all that for a new market that would like the game and it now has less players then it did pre the NGE. That tells the tale of how well it has been managed really.

But this sooooo isn't the place to talk about SWG. So that's the last I'll say about it on the forums :)

Why can't we have this as an option in the game?

Clearly this shows there are dance animations that have been made for the game. Why can't we use them? Why are we limited to one dance that stops after 4 seconds when we could have a looping dance animation so that we could truly dance?

I get the feeling that the Atysians are very much involved in spiritual matters, but without any dances or music this fails to come across in any meaningful way. Please, developers, unlock the game's dance animations for us, so that our characters can express themselves and their devotion to their spiritual side.

I find it quite irrating that he´s got to crosspost in the other Community Forums to make HIS point now.

Man, don´t you know when to stop?

We all would love to have such things (re)implemented as dancing and sitting on chairs, but you certainly overdo it a bit now.

While I agree it would be nice to have some more, longer dance emotes and that the musical feature that was anounced way way back but for some reason dropped of the radar completely I don't see any reason the add an entertainer class...

You want to be an entertainer? Fine. But the defining quality of a true entertainer is imagination. Without it you're just someone pusing buttons behind a computer screen...

Despite the fact there are no mechanics supporting it Atys has at least one well known entertainer, a story teller called Drakfot, No fancy foot-work but a lot of imagination. While Drak isn't online as much as she used to I believe there are still a lot of people who remember her story telling...

If you really want to be an entertainer, you'll find a way even without game mechanics to back you. If not,... well then maybe you should find yourself a game that takes you by the hand and leads you to the promised lands.
Ryzom won't do that for you, what it will do is offer you almost infinite possibilities where the only limit is...your imagination...

or you can just take the blue pill...
