Accomodations come from both sides to make a compromise. Not one side getting beaten down all the time. If you engage in PvP purely with other people who enjoy it and PvP is disconnected from it's role in content-blocking (oops, nearly typed a shorted 'c' word there), in other words if it becomes purely consensual, then there's no problem and there's room for both types of player and ne'er the twain shall meet (save when they actually want to).
The problems and objections are caused when people are forced to bump-up against each other.
I think the best solution would be for Nevrax to introduce alternate 'revenue streams' (but much less efficient ones) for the OP content which is the main problem at the moment. I don't like the PR digging restriction on principle, but it's tolerable and people can get perfectly fine kit without supremes.
Usually I can predict fairly well what impact a game change will have on a gaming community but spires are giving me trouble, I can see them going several ways. On the one hand they'll give the factioned a taste of the problems and game restrictions we neutrals have had, on the other hand they may increase the outpost domination problem by adding to the positive feedback loop, strengthening the already strong side. Then again fighting over them may distract people from OP battles and help distract the pro PvP players away from interference in other people's gaming in other ways. All too unpredictable.
I'm hoping after R2 comes out we'll hear more on what the plan is post spires.

ajsuk wrote:Exactly, to put it more bluntly for ya brown eye's:

Your forever telling us how to play, and moaning about anything in game that
you dont like is spoiling the entire game for
you. Well some people (some who joined long ago & some who've just arrived) enjoy the PvP. As always, unless
you can play every single part of Ryzom and enjoy it, its no good! BAH!
I can't make you not PvP however. As has been pointed out before, the forcing is all one sided. I want a game where everyone can play the way they want to, I fail to see why such a compromise is anathema unless your motivation really is only to 'pwn n00bs'.

We cant force you to go in pvp zones either.
So really there is no forcing at all.

I just want to know why you feel Nervax should cater to you, Grimjim? Do you own 51% of the accounts? What about all the people who disagree with your ideas, lets just ignore tham and do what you want because you happen to think thats best? What about all the people who don't even read the forums anymore because they're too busy enjoying the game? Maybe you should try that approach? We get it, you don't like the current setup of outposts and PvP. I'm sure there's SOMETHING in this game you do enjoy, or you wouldn't spend the time on the forums trying to "save it". Maybe you should just go enjoy the parts of the game you do and stop worrying so much until stuff actually gets here. You're not going to single handedly change the game - and if you do I'm sure lots of people will quit.
I also think it's kinda interesting that this poll has almost consistantly shown 33% dislike pvp and 66% enjoy it.

Yeah, its quite simple really... If you dont like it, dont take part. I dont enjoy half of the RP events for example, so I just dont go. That doesn't mean they're bad and should be taken out of game because some people do enjoy it. I can understand & respect that, why cant you?

I voted yes, because when I do feel like taking part in it I find it fun, and when I don't feel like taking part I find it quite simple not to.
Seriel I've been quite enjoying your posts so far. Glad to have you with us and I hope you stick around.

I plan to stay jam. I might make another trial account before this one expires though, I'm still playing around with races and starting areas on the mainland to find one I really like... and I havn't tried Zorai yet.
For my next post, I'm going to simply title it "PvP" and leave the content blank. Just to see what gets posted! >=)

I want to know why Nevrax felt (and appears to still feel) that it is necessary to cater to you "PvP or I quit" people. Do they not feel the pain of loss (if only lost revenue) caused by all the long-time players who have left the game as a direct result of the poorly implemented PvP?
And what about all the people who disagree with YOUR ideas? Are we supposed to just shut up and go away because we happen to disgree with you?
