I think it's gunna happen.. some people like it.. some people don't.
It'll be introduced to please the people who want it, same as other things are introduced for other people.

Aslong as theres a choice to take part or not(in-anything).. well.. who cares. :p

But.. to answer the question: No we don't NEED it.. but whats wrong with having it as an option.

besides, if you read carefully the french guy above owned you all by pretty much making this whole dicussion void

I've kept in contact with loads of ex guild members and 9 times out of 10 they have said they will definitly come back once more PvP is implimented. Especially outpost, its quite shocking at number of ex members playing other games just waiting to return to ryzom once they are added.

Though id definitly agree its no fun at all when you are trying to peacfully level and you get ganked. But on another point if you dont have any enemies who is there to gank you? And I'm sure gitty players that just kill any old jim bob for the sake of killing them would get their comeupance.

PvP could possibly save people from flaming each other on the forums if they could just have their disputes out in game. I know you could organise an event to settle disputes in game but its still not quite the same, that leaves no room to be spontanious.

*That* I'm afraid, is a misconception. It is far more likely that the PvP would lead to more flaming in the forums. And there is no such thing as 'settling your disputes' in fight. The defeated side will always try to find some other way to turn the result around while the winning side is more likely than not to brag about the victory in the forums. But it is possible on the other hand, that an escallation in the forums would lead to some escalations in the game as well.

The way it looks now, we will get PvP wheather we liek it or not. So maybe we should start discussing how we will *survive* under the new circumstances. This doesn't mean I like PvP any more than I did before, but I would say, given the situation, we can use our energy in a better way.

If this is right it's then good to hear that players who have left will return and 9 of 10 can't be bad.

But if I was a new player buying this game on the strength of PvP, I would be very unhappy to find that I was unable to engage in PvP for quite a few months while I was developing my character. It might generate sales initially but it's not really ethical. Unless they intend to change the way leveling works.

Short: NO

Long:
1. Game is not designed for PvP. Nukers are way too powerful. I dare say a group of 4 +200 mages against a similar group will have an endless fight. There is no skill involved here. Just nuke, heal, nuke, heal. The ones with better ping will win the battle, that's all. And you can't possibly think at afflictions at that level.

2. People does not pay to be ganked. Plain and simple. In a free game like Tibia, is kinda ok. You have nothing better to do, play some free idiotic game (e.g. Tibia) and you can't possibly get angry because you get pk-ed. Because is free, and the most important thing, player base is manly formed by 14 yrs frustrated leet kids.

3. Free pvp leads to abuse. Abuse leads to frustration, and usually frustration makes people to quit. Most of the players here are people of +25 (i'm 34) yrs who play the game to relax after a day of work. Why should I stay in a game that makes me angry instead of calm me down? Why should I pay to be pissed off?

4. PvP-ers or PK-ers or gankers want the conflict. The regullar players don't. So a punishment for gankers (aka all server comes and wipe them out) will turn out in a reward for them as long that is what they want. And lack of DP in PvP, the respawn near the battleplace and lack of drops (you don't lose a single item if you die, just a bit from your pride) makes this "task" even more tedious in Ryzom.

5. There is really no reason in game lore for PvP. Bascally all homins are here and are united against kitins. So all that comes after this are just words. When you live under a permanent threat you are brother with all the ones sharing this threat.

6. Spice to game? Way too pansy? You make me laugh. Go kill in PR if you want more adrenalin. Solo. No team.

Bottom line: nope, we don't need it. Nor leet kids or gankers or ******* trying to transform this game in another Eve, or Ultima or whatewer. If any of you *gankers* feels offended of my words, I suggest you to go in Tibia or another open PK game and find some low level newbies to gang-bang and gank.

After patch1 the content majority didnt take part in all the threads that made Nevrax chance the patch and i fear that the same thing is going to happen over again.

Maybe its just the people i talk to that give a wrong avarage about opinions, but from the people i talked to most of them would come back to active their accounts of pvp is being implemeted.
You are indeed missinformed. Evidence of this is that the vast majority of level 250's do not enter PvP zones, as they have no interest in ruining anothers gaming experience, and prefer to tackle other things, like the still present Kitin threat, trying to find ways into supposedly innaccesible locales, etc.
Also, the reason Neverax changed after patch one was not because of the thread outcry, but because they were hemoraging players. Do you want that to happen again?

Just the opposite. I can tell you from experience that, if it comes to the point where PvP goes world wide, the flaming will get VERY much worse. As this is a game where we have built our characters up over the course of months, nearly a year for some of us, more than that, even, for a few, we are naturally emotionally invested in that character's well-being.

Heh, how glib! How snide! How 100% wrong!

He doesn't even address the main issue (as far as I am concerned). If SoR goes PvP, why should anyone (the majority, like it or not) who does not want PvP stay? And why should any new player who does want PvP start an account with Neverax, when there are so many other choices for the exact same experience, except that the other games are better designed, balanced, and produced.

In terms of graphics, and initial story base, SoR is indeed wonderful. In all other respects, it is truly inferior to the others on the market. The only draw it has going for it in terms of game-play is the lack of PvP.

There are more important reasons why theres a lack of pvp area use, its completely pointless and fortunatly the community always disliked ruining of peoples playing experience.

Exactly why i keep saying that people that dont like pvp dont need to fear grief from it and can keep playing the game they want while others are allowed to have a nice diversion/immersion of things enjoying pvp.

The reason i sayed "if pvp is being implemeted." is that the excistance of being able to attack eachother in pvp areas doesnt make for enjoyable pvp.
Its pointless as it is now, thats why outposts and Kami/Karavan story are important to " implement pvp"

i dont think Ryzom is the game where people want pvp to grief other players, im pretty sure most want it to extend their gameplay.
Im also pretty sure in the case where a group would strife to harrass people, the majority of pvp players would make them " dissapear" fairly quickly.

I think this community including the people that are inactive waiting for new content is more then capable of dealing with pvp in a way that suits everyone.

exactly the fact that nobody goes into PR pvp areas to grief and if someone does that its is being sorted very quickly usually is an example how well capable the Ryzom community has always been in dealing with the matter.

assuming all he said is true: why should nevrax care about the english and german servers, when the people from their country, playing on the biggest server, welcome the changes that nevrax is planning?

besides, the question stated in the thread title doesn't really apply here, as it simply presents a black and white decision, allthewhile totally disregarding reality itself. i will thus ignore it and answer the real questions: ryzom does not need full open free pvp. but i am of the opinion that ryzom does need heavily regulated and thought out group-based pvp in order to take the story anywhere besides slaughtering mind-less drones, without relying on an event staff that would need to be considerably bigger than it is currently.

The question is relevant, yes it can be answered with a yes or no answer but it does not have to be. Even if it's a case of your having PvP the question is still a valid question. And if you are choosing to ignore it why bother to post an answer here.
