raynes wrote:Yes, look where peaceful RP has gotten the game so far. Look around you in the game, it's dead. There is no excitement among the players. People don't have anything to care about. Instead of a game full of conflict and meaningful actions we have a game where a fake wedding with a GM reading a poem is a big deal.

I'm hardly against imagination. What I am against is a game full of conflict possibilites being turned into a game where picnics, marriages, and playful sports are the only things going on.

The sims type events just aren't cutting it to push this game forward.
We could always stage a wedding between a matis karavan follower and a fyros kami follower in the matis arena, and announce it well beforehand.

This would give extremists from both Kami and Karavan an opportunity and an rp reason to come swooping in and assassinate the sacriligeous couple, slaughter all the guests, and destroy or loot all of the wedding gifts... and then turn on each other.

It also would give all the neutral players who stand for "unity against the kitin" a chance to defend the ceremony and try to keep it from being disrupted by the religious fanatics.

The conflict doesn't necessarily have to be simply Kami vs Karavan or racial in nature. The politics leading to conflict could be more complex than that =)

omg i love the whole illegitimate love child scenario

cause you know what

we could have like palace guards on each side helping out too
its unfortunate that my guild alone could take on most of the matis population, i mean seriously, just give me my antifairy title now

im in favor of the standard PVP flag, you can turn it on, and turn it off, but takes like 10 minutes to turn off or something, a simple device like that is often enough to insure fun and fairness

of course places like PR and nexus shoudl be mandatory pvp

but also during these events, players of similar and higher level should yield exp, just to encourage more to play

A wedding is a meaningful action to the few people involved. Unless it is a wedding of royality or leaders, or something forbidden to the majority of the inhabitants of Atys the act has no meaning. Do you honestly beleive that a warrior in Zora could care in the least bit about two Trykers getting married?

On the otherhand if the Matis were trying to take over neutral territory and preventing Zorai from entering the area, that warrior would care. Or if the Matis were taking resources from the jungle and preventing other races from takeing from the forest, he would care.

That is the problem with having festivals, weddings, funerals, and sports events. None of things will ever have enough significance to make the majority of homins on Atys take notice.

I think each land should have its own arena, that dp should be shut off in those arenas, and that we should have events happen from time to time in them where a guide rp's some important figure (villain, soothsayer, leader, or hero) related to that land. 15-30 minutes after the presence of this entity is announced and their role defined for that event, the guide should lose invul status and become attackable, albeit with many more hp than a normal player. Players on one side would attack the guides while players on the other side of the conflict would defend and heal them.

An example might be, the wedding I mentioned earlier... what if one or more of the principals in this wedding were actually guides playing roles central to the conflict?

You could also have such things as a champion of Yrkanis appear in the Matis arena, or a tryker spy sneak into the zorai arena (if one were created) - all rp'd by guides.

I don't think giving xp for killing players of any relative level is good... too easy to exploit and if the conflict is story based, reasonably challenging for both sides, and fun, functional rewards (xp or loot) for killing are not needed. Fame as a reward for killing within the arena during a faction conflict event would be nice, but apparently it's not so easy for the devs to implement correctly =(

It just came to me, shouldn't the title to this thread be "Less love, weddings, and harmony... More conflict, death, war and marriage!"?

See, 1st thing we do is marry Raynes off to some fat Frahar chick who only wants him to forage all day. When he tries to leave her, his inlaws come after him. Everyone gets to pick a side until the lawyer Kipesta's show up and kill us all.
