That's bull Raynes. I had a 3mb connection when the NA server was in Europe, and when I ran, it was like being under a strobe light.. They moved it, lag gone. Now I have a 4mb connection, but .. its NOT my connection speed that was effecting it. Lag is a very real concern, don't dismiss it so out of hand.

My biggest concern is the possible lag, that those across the pond will be able to identify who's on this side, just because we move around like a scene from flashdance.

I dunno but I've had nothing but problems from Themis group. Besides answering a few basic questions or getting yoru character unstuck they were largely useless.

Oh and I don't know if you even consider this important, but by lag are you talking about the low frame rate alot of peopel get? You can eliminate most of it by turning the mob draw distance down but then you are less effective. There used to be tons of server lag but I've found that to be pretty much eliminated.

I havent experienced lag from connection speed ever, unless my conenction drops out.

It's not bull, It was your connection. I have always conncected using regular Earthlink DSL. I am in Fort Lauderdale, FL and I never expereinced connection related lag.

connection speed is completely irrelevant in this matter, quality of routing is the only important thing.
example:
i live in stralsund, way north-eastern germany and play on the german server, standard ping= 350-400
my isp is 1&1, which is a sub-contractor of the german telekom, they sell access in the form of standard ADSL lines with 1 MBit down and 160 kBit up
now a friend of mine who lives in hamburg, which is just 300 km west of me has a standard ping of 200 with a worse machine than mine and exactly the same connection
conclusion: lag depends on wether or not you are lucky and have proper routing or not, switching isp might even help

It IS the quality of the routing (read the REAL network latency) This game uses almost NO bandwidth except to download patches.

While you are playing, the game sends you 8Kb/sec (kilo-bit) of data to you with you sending less than half that much back up.

I hope your 3Mb/sec (mega-bit) or 3072Kb/sec (kilo-bit) connection helps you out with that.

It IS all about the amount of time your ping takes. I do agree to a minor extent that it may not impact things that much, however when you step out of PvE and get into PvP my changing the position of my character matters in whether or not you hit me and if my move get there .002 seconds after your attack does you hit me instead of missing me. Go figure. (Just a thought) I guess now that I think of it, this can apply to PvE just as well. It's just not that often you see a melee running cirlces around a mob :D

There are many americans who play and have only slightly more lag than the people in UK.

I played both Open Betas and I believe the start of retail was on a UK server, and usually experienced very little lag from my PC here on the east side of Canada. Unfortunately there were occasions when lag did occur, sometimes quite severe, and always at the most inopportune moment. lol
Hopefully it won't be too bad this go-round.

I too am in Eastern Canada and have had no lag issues with playing on the shards hosted in the UK on either dial-up or broadband as the game uses very little bandwidth (4K/s at most)

Lag is definitely far less important than the routing, I found that out when playing the Werner (Euro) and Emerald (NA) PS servers, 70ms and 190ms respectively. However the connection to Emerald was clean and stable and even with the increased lag led to a much better gaming experience. This was all down to my ISP at the time.

On the positive side Im looking forward to the increased population that we will all now have, its a great game with (as DC quoted) great potential but until outposts come out its just a pretty looking leveller. The community is what really makes this game (playing WoW has shown me how much) and I can assure you that the Jolt CSRs really go out of there way to help, I have never been in a game where you get a response in 20mins maximum and 5 minutes on average.

Im sure some ppl arent going to like but if we were all the same wouldnt the world be a boring place.
