There are some interesting points in this thread, and here are my thoughts on them:
1) Exploits - there are two perspectives - firstly if a mob cannot cause you damage yet you can kill it - then i agree its an exploit. And from my perspective some places look like they are exploits but actually when you nuke a mob it runs out of range in an attempt to reach you. So in theory its impossible to kill it and therefore not an exploit. As soon as you see this then whats the point in contunuing to try - as its clearly not possible to kill it or if by some means and it gets stuck in a location you can hit it - then its clearly an exploit - so you can just stop and remember not to do that again.
The seconds perspective is - how do you know something is an exploit? Well its pretty obvious once you've discovered the points I made above. But to discover them you have to try. So if yo dont know about an exploit and you try and you realise and someone was watching you and you get reported then you might not be too pleased. So I'd suggest if you see someone exploiting that you ask them if they know what they are doing is an exploit to give them the benefit of the doubt - then you can give them a link to a place on the Ryzom website that explains what an exploit is. (if there is one !)
2) Mages and Stingas/Plants
Mages find Stingas excellent for levelling up on. Because they don't move and there are lots of them. But from my perspective it is completely dufferent from killing a shalah from a cliff, becuase the Stinga has a 150m range and hurls spells at you which hurt ! Also they are social so they can be quite nasty if you get a couple of them hitting you.
3) Mages verus Melee
Im a high level Mage and as far as I can see there is nothing uber about it. I can still be killed by anything that gives me over 2k xp and if its got legs then im in trouble if soloing. If I have a healer yes I feel more confident but thats the same as a Melee with a healer. In my opinion being a high level Melee is just as powerful as a high level Mage - seeing as a good Melee can stand toe to toe with a mob and take much less damage due to good armour. A mage no matter their level would get wiped out pretty quick. The only large difference is the amount of damage a Mage can do - yes I do 2k worth of damage - but to a mob that gives me good xp - it usually never gives the full damage - sometimes only half plus resists and reflects. Now I have seen Melee players doing damage of over 1k at high levels and I suspect it goes much higher. Now to be a high level Mage and a high level Melee would really be Uber.
4) Player Hate
There's always someone who doesnt get on with other people and upsets them and gets upset by others. This is life. I'm sure alot of us remember a certain Master of Life who went through a similar 'Im obnoxious and everyone hates me' period, but his beef was more with players than with the GM's.
Basically, if you behave in a way that makes people dislike you or cause problems for others and are rude and impatient - then you can imagine the kind of reaction you will get from other people. Whether this be in a game or in real life.
So if you are one of these players that is hated or think themselves hated - then stop and think for a moment - why am I hated? and then think about your actions beforehand - "I want Xorte to like me - shall I steal his mob, kill him in PvP zone while he is harvesting and then swear at him? or shall I ask how his day his going and perhaps if he'd like to team?" - hmm I wonder which option will achieve this goal? Oh I see its number 2 - yes I'll do that then
5) Lag
When you have lag - make a note of the time, location, your actions, and who else is affected. Everytime you suffer lag and you are the only one affected then the lag is more localized to you. If you find 90% of your lag is localized to you - then you have a starting point for investigation. If yo find 90% of the lag is experienced by 90% of the people you ask - then raise a ticket with the notes you made - as it's certainly a wider issue.
This is how to get something done about the lag in a constructive way. Why is this? - Your friend phones you up, he just bought Ryzom and want s to play it, but his computer wont work. He asks you for help. You say to your friend "Tell me exactly what is happening" and he replies - "um it doesnt work" - how are you to help him? This is how the Devs feel when you report lag and dont explain exactly what is happening.
Anyway thats my 2 pennies
