In the FvF zones, sides are chosen by your fame. So, unless you can change you fame very quickly before every event, you are likely stuck with one or the other.
Note I said events, not zones. It'll depend how they set it up, though I think giving people hte choice (and possibility of a fame hit) is better.

If you give people the choice of which side to pick that would make fame pretty meaningless though.. It would allow homins to switch sides on a whim. I couldnt begin to count the many hundreds of hours i have spent working on my fame, if i could choose to be neutral or Ma-Duk forgive me karavan then it would have all been utterly pointless.

I find that way too restricting, some events your character may not be able to stomach while still, overall, supporting one cause.

one option might be for those with low faction fame to be able to switch around, but those with higher to be stuck with it :)

I see both sides to the FvF thing, although the decision to base it all on personal fame needs to be rethought. If you join an aligned guild, that decision should have an effect on your fame.

On the one hand, if your character has spent his life working for one side, how is it really logical that they would switch to the other for an event. I suppose it is possible, but it just doesn't usually happen that way. Fame should have it's consquence, and it should certainly have rewards.

On the other hand, this is a game, and dramitic things should happen all the time. A kami heretic could see the dammage they are doing, change thier ways, and fight on the side of Jena. Is would make a great story. Just because I have been working for one side all my life does not me I *can not* work for the other on a whim...just that I probably wouldn't.

If you were a Celtic supporter (substitute your own personal team here) all your life and Celtic & Rangers (again sub) had reached the European Champions cup final, could you really see yourself changing to support Rangers for the day?

I realise it's rather an extreme example (I can but live in hope) but this is the kind of passion proper RP should stimulate. Well, maybe not quite that strong but you get the idea.

Perhaps regarding the fame thing-

You're allowed to switch sides whenever you want, despite any amount amazingly high fame with one particular faction-

The punishment though is it's all erased...

Say You're +Karavan 80 and negative Kami

Some event you participate in, you decide to fight for the Kami, go ahead.

But afterwards you have zero fame with the Karavan and probably slightly less negative with the Kami.

The Karavan no longer trust you, and the Kami won't forget all your past deeds that easy.

I suppose it could be difficult to implement, but it seems the most realistic.
