No, that would only increase the power of the selfish children. A better alternative, for all players, not just those that dig in PR, would be to actually balance Mobs with players.drizzeth wrote: Then again, as Pete mentioned, i think Nevrax expected to be pvp areas at least the same level of danger as the non pvp areas, as it turned out however use of pvp in the therefore designed areas is so little that the level of danger is not comparable. In the intention of the design that would mean the broken mechanism is the use of pvp being too little to balance the areas to the same level of danger involved.
Do we really need PvP?

rushin wrote:of course, heaven forbid you might actually die or have to work to do something in this game. why bother with digging at all - there should be a button you can press that deposits 440 mats in your bag. right?
Death=failure, hence death penalty. If you are OK with constant failure, more power to you, but not everyone feels that way.
Yes you could, I rounded down for travel.rushin wrote:If they removed every single mob in wastelands i still couldn't get that many mats in a hour, unlike kipee mull et al you have to walk a long way to get what you want there.
You're right, I wasn't digging Umbra then. I was busy with a similar situation in the Lakes at the time.rushin wrote:and if you had been digging when umbra had 2/4 kincher guarding every portal, patrols, bosses with 100m aggro range, etc then i dont think you would have any complaints about the fact they are PvP now. as Pete said the problem actually is their isn't enough PvP going on to balance the almost total removal of challenge (all the mobs) that happened when it was introduced.
Why are you so nasty?
Re: Do we really need PvP?
I'm not nasty, really i'm not. I'm just really really frustrated with some of the things i read on the forum, and it just happens a lot of these things have come from you recently lol. I'm not even really into PvP, i have never started a fight with another player but i feel the need to defend it because i believe it has a place in the game.thebax wrote: Why are you so nasty?
the reason i am frustrated is because this game used to be difficult, challenging and not some piss easy walk in the park designed for 12 year olds. There are a million games like that where you dont need to worry about dying, or use a bit of skill and determination to achieve something, or whatever. why do you want ryzom to be like that? you have been ranting about how digging in lv250 pr is IMPOSSIBLE over and over, and its what i have been doing since i was level 40 forage (other pr was similar difficulty when i was lv40). I have spent a year doing it and i really enjoy it. so to read your posts trying to push the dev's/popular opinion into taking it away winds me up. simple as that.

Ah, it seems we merely have an unfortunate difference of opinion, then, as to what will draw in more players. I will try not to provoke you in the future (but no promises, if I believe something is true, I'm going to say it).

Re: Do we really need PvP?
Hmm. I'm playing through Devil May Cry 3 right now. It's pretty tough. I like that it's tough. If it weren't, I'd just beat it, yawn, and move on. Challenge is part of the reason I play games like Devil May Cry.rushin wrote:I'm not nasty, really i'm not. It is not part of the reason I play games like the Saga of Ryzom.
Sure there are a million games that are easy. There are a million games that are difficult, too. If you want a tough game, I certainly don't want to see that taken away from you. But don't force it on the rest of us. I am not playing SoR to have a hard time. I do want it to be easy, yes. I want it to be a safe, accessible, comfortable environment. Some content ought to be challenging I think, but mostly I do believe the game should be painless and fun.

Re: Do we really need PvP?
Hmmm, emotive topic.
Short answer: no
Longer answer: Personally i'm not totally against PvP when it has a point and players who are not interested in PvP can continue enjoying the game without having to avoid griefers etc.
PvP for outposts may just do the trick. PvP for those who want it and those who don't can continue (hopefully) without it effecting them (mostly dependent on their guild).
PvP in PR doesn't seem to work well except where there is strong demand for a resource (e.g. supreme Zun). Perhaps with a higher player base PR PvP may have been more effective.
In my limited experience PvP everywhere, all the time, seems to have been proven to be a game breaker rather than a game maker. But i'm often wrong.
