1. The BUG that prevented players whose PR forage level was 50-100 (or whatever the level range was) from ever being able to forage in PR was corrected in server version 32, one day after the bug was introduced with the Chapter 2 patch (version 30).l
I think this is more subtle than that. I am still thinking about my opinion regarding Cerest's post (so I am not, for the moment, defending one position or the other), but, on the other hand, this is how I see the latest "changes" (feel free to disagree): the "bugs" were intended features that went in without no warning. No unintentional "bug" displays the "your extraction quality stanza is too low". So, in my opinion, what we witnessed are the planned changes that the devs had in mind regarding Prime Root foraging, and are in agreement with cerest call for comments:
* The empty prospected sources "bug" aligns with one of Cerest points. I was shocked to see at one point that all the "choice" sources were plentiful and all the supremes were empty.
* The other change is related to having a minimum level to extract, and personally I think devs are trying to define what "zones" are appropriate for a certain level range. To some extent, the analogy of "a lvl 40 fighter should not be hunting a lvl 200 mob" applies, but in harvesting we don't have the same risk. Would people agree with "you are ok to extract on a q250 node at any level but bear in mind that there is twice the risk to explode and explosions will hurt for 4 times the damage"? (just an example). In my opinion, the "bug" here (and I agree with you and I know you are aware of the issue) is that there are no q100 sources in roots (oversight?).
So what happened? given the aforementioned oversight and the fact that to my knowledge the 4 communities reacted to the changes (in part, due to the lack of comments in the release notes, what is commonly referred to a 'stealth nerf'), and also because they seemed to be forced to team up to go from 51-90, the player base was not 'happy', and something had to be done. The changes (g) were withheld in an emergency-damage control related patch, setting things as they were before, and asked for comments.
What do I personnally think? I'm still making up my mind, trying to get hold of all the issues. What I can say is that I think I can understand both parties. I am biased, tho, because I'm already high level, but grossly, even if dev's had in mind this changes, it is unfortunate that they want to apply them after release. Gameplay changes are risky, and sometimes unfair for new players (some of us we have "already" leveled up and used supreme mats for months, why can't new players do the same?). What seems to be the solution? there is no "good for all solution", and I am trying to get a whole picture of the thing (if mats are made more scarce, does it mean that leveling in PR foraging is going to be slower, if I play 1h and I spend 30 minutes porting, prospecting empty sources, having bad weather, what do I do? are the kind of questions that arose yesterday). I tend to think that "leave the things as they are now", but I can see the dev's need to really give some added value to "supreme" mats, but I also think that 'camping enabling' changes do not look like the good approach.
So the real question is "what steps are going to be taken next?". If the community clearly states that they don't want/agree/care with planned changes, are they going to scratch them or apply them, anyway?
Thanks for reading and sorry for boring you
