This is pretty much akin to the boosting they did to characters in the open beta crash test parties.

Lv 50 Melee Lv 50 Off Mage/Lvl 50 Def Mage. You will still be those levels with that amount of sp.

Of course the downside to this whole thing is that at some point someone will go whining that they have been nerfed and cry that we need another one.

Gotcha.

Yeah, I hope they don't do this too often. I'm not a fan of "re-rolling" characters, which seems to be the solution to everyone's woes lately ;) I don't want to get used to it. But, it is pretty cool, and I have some ideas how I'll redo things.

Well, from what I've seen on the test serverthey, at least, have to respec Magic and harvesting. They have both been pretty thoroughly changed, so getting a redo on everything seemed in order. Yay!

I am chosing to see this as a glass MORE than half full thing. THINK about it, you get to the mainland, and as a Fyros, in noob land, I didn't NEED or want resource tracking...BUT the mainland is one BIG place (twice the noobland? three times? something on that magnitude) so I WANT resource tracking to 100 m's BUT guess what...nodes are far apart...so it is hard to find them...and I don't have the sp...so I can't buy the skill to find them. I am pretty much stuck at the mouth of Pyr grinding away at the ENDLESS amber field. (think about it, Amber is fosilized TREE sap, Umm this is the desert...was there EVER this many trees HERE???!!)

OR you were a wild young crafter (from all those that REmade a character, and there were ALOT of them...THIS was the MAIN reason why...MISspent crafting SP well craft OR magic), and wanted to craft THE WORLD...which was fine the first ten levels or so...maybe even til 20, but by 30s when everything screeched to a hault, you looked over what you REALLY crafted...and what you had and groaned.

I personally will buy Fear, stun and root and heal other on magic points (or as much of that as I POSSIBLY can) and toss the jewelery crafting (kudos to those that make them, if you cut ME a deal on a set of Jewelery, I will cut YOU a deal on the stuff I make K? great!) out the window 100 SP for ONE form??? Holy KAMI crap!! (sorry, it is SO eloquent and perfect, I had to steal it). I would rather take a while and make medium and light armor and two or three weapons rather than jewelery (especially since rings were ONLY 300 some xp per, Yeah I know I could crank out a few trillion of them and level, but YIKES).

I am sure this is a "trying to keep this adjustment from biting un in the bumm" move, and some will scream "cop out", BUT I say KUDOS boys, We LUV ya!

I for one will start working on my lesser characters and start pursuing skills I had concidered WAY too pricey/hard to level, now...that won't be as true for them.

I see this as a HUGE UNnerf, and a personal FIRST. I have gotten used to seeing the nerf stick, but I can count on ONE hand the number of UNnerfings I have EVER seen.

I see this as a BRAVE and bold move in the MAJOR right direction.

lol. I think it's at least 20x as big as noobland, myself.

As far as the rest of your post, and the gist of the responses in general: sure, it's nice that we're able to redo characters with the hindsight and experience we have now. Some people are especially happy b/c they have access to skills, like racial crafting, that they didn't have access to at the beginning, and will be able to channel more sp into that. And that's all well and good, I suppose, although it seems a bit strange and exploitative to me. But, people seem to be in agreement that it is okay, so I don't mind.

I jokingly posted earlier in this thread that I'm scared :( . And I am, because I like my character just as she is. I don't mind reallocating sp as such, but I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to overlook something that I picked the first time around. I can work around that by taking copious notes on the skills I have now, I suppose. This is just a concern of mine.

I'm also hoping that the sp refund rolls out smoothly. I'd hate to hear of people missing xx number of sp after the respec; although I am confident that, if that happens, the GMs will handle it with their usually competency and promptness, and my bringing it up here is simply speculation. Most likely and hopefully it will not be a problem. :)

I'm posting this b/c I'm a bit skeptical, and everyone else seems to have a rosy outlook on the respec; somebody's gotta present the negatives for the sake of balance. ;) I can appreciate the rationale behind doing this, but I'm still scared. :o Anyone out there have similar concerns?

My plans have been foiled... at least partially.

It appears that you cannot use mats from one area (the desert for instance) to craft armor/weapons belonging to another (zorai for instance).

The reasoning for that is beyond me but it is what it is.

I don't currently craft on the live server, but I can tell you that this is not the case on the test server (where Patch 1 is). I'm a Zorai crafting Zorai boots and Matis boots in Matis :)

This is with choice mats or better? Only those have crafting restriction on the live servers.

Really? It isn't like that on the live server. Heh, I may just have to pick up mats armor crafting if I can use jungle materials. Are you using choice or above grade materials, Cerest?

Ah, the person didn't mention CHOICE in their question. Important distinction.
I think it makes sense that the better materials in a land are specific to that land's inhabitants. Might be inconvenient, but not totally unreasonably. I'd noticed the "Tryker Only" on a number of mats I collect, never thought to check if it's all choice.

I think the distinction isn't the grade of the material... Cerest says he/she crafts Zorai boots with Zorai mats and Matis boots with Matis mats.

Sure it means spending craft points to expand your recipe list and adds a new level of complexity to crafting and inventory but you still can use the mats to craft.
