Interesting that Riffy had the same mushrooms that killed Lady Loria... (remember poison gas and all?) And I wonder what was that karavan communicator under the helmet and who were the "others" (some of them trykers)... Questions, questions...

"I see." The voice was weary, filtered with the huskiness of disuse and spiced with a tinge of disappointment. "So, you see nothing, nothing odd, nothing out of place?"

She stood silent, willing her body to a more relaxed stance. There had been no reason to make a visit for so long, no news, no events, nothing. Finally, something had happened, trivial yes, but amongst the categories that required a report.

"This is Atys...there is always something buried beneath the surface." He leaned forward, stoking the campfire which had summoned him. "Context, winners, losers....purpose." His voice cracked on the last word. She remembered to breathe.

"Why would a hawker, any hawker go to any government official and put them in complete control of recovering their lost merchandise? What is even more strange is having the Trykoth treat with the roaches. What purpose did it serve to involve them? The hawkers themselves led the delegation, why would they increase the risk of never recovering their loss by becoming the ambassadors of Ailan? Why not approach them as the guild of hawkers?"

"So, who was the winner in this little play and who were the losers? Whose ideals were moved forward and whose were weakened?"

His eyes went wide as if something had instantly taken all of his attention, just as quickly they sagged back into weariness. He stood, brushed the grit from his chaps and announced it was time for him to leave.

"You are missed, your people need you." She said.

"I am where I have to be."

He turned away and walked into the calm.

"oh...Leave the mirrors by the fire."
