I agree with Katriell 100%. So far the current owners are developping faster than GameForge ever did, and are actually keeping their promisses. (except maybe not letting us pay yet, but heck, there's worse things in this world
)

I love RFO *runs and hides*
Though CM's version was a total stink.
RFO and Ryzom are my two favourate MMOs by far, Ryzom taking spot number one of course

Yes I do always check the name, but in many cases knowing the name makes you non-the-wiser as you have no experience of the company involved.
Which, would probably be the same with the company running Ryzom. Seems to me that most people are just curious rather than anything else.

no ..... a lot of people had 12 months subs going When the game went under and if not for the new owners steping in,their money would have gone down the drain. Whos to say it wont happen again ??
Next time the game may close for good.

Actually there are many eyes on ryzom right now than it ever was and very much doubt it will go down like that again, trust me when I say this. Personally I too have my eyes on the IP myself and should it show any signs of going down I wouldn't hesitate to do something about that this time around.
As it is I'm going to do anything possible in my own little ways, whatever that may be... marketing perhaps? So I sincerely hope everyone relaxes a little and trust the current owners of Ryzom. I don't think they will hide in the shadows for long.

There's always the monthly sub, you know.
Every MMO has somewhere in it's Terms of Service basicly a "We reserve the right to cancel your account whenever we like for whatever reason we can think of without having to return the money you already paid us for the months you'll miss out on". If you choose to pay 12 months in advance, this is the risk you accept in return for having to pay less per month.
Coupled with the very real chance that there'll be at least one or two months during that year that you won't even play at all, I've never understood why so many people are so eager to risk the 12-month sub for that small discount. False sense that you're saving money, I guess.
It particularly made me giggle when it was someone who was at the same time asking for a way to send the developers more money. You know who you are.

Then if people are worried about that the safe option would be monthly subs.
Edit: Just read sidusar's post, I think that pretty much covers it.

They give just enough information to make it seem like they are working on the game, but then simply add/remove a cart from a doorway every other patch. In the mean time, subs restarted and a significant portion of the veterans subbed up. Since the game was dirt cheap to acquire due to it having bankrupted several companies and being partially completed, the mysterious company was able to cover the cost of aquiring the game within the first few months. Profit rolls in as players continue to hold on to the last shreds of hope that the game they all loved wasn't actually being used to simply suck up some quick cash.
I can't make the math work. Let's look at Aris and give a wildly conservative estimate of 1,000 subscriptions in month 1.
1,000 x $10 = $10,000
In a service business, the direct salary multiplier to figure cost of doing business is typically from 2.5 to 3.0 to 1.... let's use 2.0 to make it easy. So $10,000 a month of income / 2 provides a company with $5,000 for salaries after paying rent, taxes, server costs, ISP costs, electricity, phones etc. That hires one person at a salary of $60,000 per year. In short, unless they are able to convince dozens of people to work for free, salary and business costs will require thousands of subscribers before they can begin paying off anything.
Not in response to the above quote but in response to the general tone of the thread, personally, I never cared or looked to see who Nevrax was. I have a GMC vehicle and I have no idea who the President of General Motors is. I'm wearing some clothes from LL Bean and I have no idea who works there. Other than my salesman, I have no idea who the pricipals are at the company that made my laptops. I don't know anyone at Seagate who made the HD's in my NAS. I don't know anyone at Parker Brothers but I have a game of Monopoly. I just spent $10 for a Pizza and I have no idea who the owner of the joint was.
I am not investing a million dollars here. I am going to pay $10 a month to play a game .... If the pizza joint mentioned above changes Owners, I don't need the new Owner's resume before I will "risk" my $10. I'm not going to demand an ingredients list, not going to demand a roadmap of menu changes in advance. I will walk in and buy my pizza. When I stop liking what I am buying I will stop.
