I totally agree with both, Katriell and Faa.
What i want to add is that, to make event team easier job, the game should have some trigger added, to make players able to 'trigger' something based on their action.
It's not a very hard job, but sure need some work and I know in the original plans NPC should have had some smart behaviour related to specific events.
I think a single developer, specialized in level design, could setup some of these triggers in a couple of months (if the tools are all in the team's hands and working properly).
The game need a Live Event Team, but it also need something to make the world more dynamic. I know it is already more dynamic than any of 'the-so-acclaimed' new MMOs, but we need something that increase the pathos over the routine of a life in Atys.

Something like, killing the kitin queen in Desert Stock triggers a kitin invasion somewhere? That'd be neat.
Speaking of making it easier for the Event Team.... let me chime in that this new Live Events policy they're apparently working on, IMO it should include providing
much more support to Player-organised Events. I remember shortly after launch, the CSRs would announce player events serverwide, and often be present and assist as far as they could. Now they're not even allowed to announce player-events anymore, let alone get involved....
It's a shame because there've been many player events that rivaled or even surpassed the quality of the official events, yet they had much fewer players attending than even the simplest official events, purely because they were player-organised and not *official*. Giving relatively little help to player events would encourage more players to organize them and allow them to add much more liveliness to Atys, thus taking a lot of the pressure off the Event Team.

I agree with Sidusar. Players creating their own fun is a very important part of Ryzom and should be supported.

I am afraid I was not able to communicate my thoughts properly, so better than starting an argument about what and how Ryzom (or MMOs generally) should work, I will back off. Just few last bits...
- Yes, it is foolish to make competition with large players. But...
- Constant stream of events, triggers, or even better, dynamic world is best. But...
Behind these "But"s, there are many things to think about, and most are quite difficult. Try not only to consider solutions from "this is how we think it will be best", but also from "what is possible [with given resources]" and "whether it brings player base large enough for game to survive". Every coin has 2 sides, some has more.

wow such ray of sunshine many of you are.
ever think that the only reason its free right now is to verify that things actually work before they start to charge for it?
and all this end game talk....i can truely say that shalah and plod hunts are not the end of game.but only the begining of where the fun begins.a low to mid level skill is not much good in a full on aggro area where you need to protect a digger to keep getting what is needed for the real fun.
seems all forget about what is really needed here on Atys....a team of friends.
All working together towards one goal...and a single goal is not the end of life on Atys.
so i give a Hell ya "without a doubt" i will be resubbing to SoR

Chybisek, I have thought about all that and as a result I've written (here and on MMORPG.com) many thousands of words about Ryzom and the challenges faced by it.
WoW quests and similar vapidities are wrong for Ryzom.

QFE.
Call me what you will, but I would rather see my beloved Atys go down in flames forever than be turned into a pointless repetitive quest grinder, no matter how profitable. Just my humble opinion, of course.

I was paid for doing similar research (not for Ryzom though). Balance of achiever and explorer type of gameplay is possible. Quests are cheap (in terms of creating them). And I never said it should be quest-driven-nonsense story as WoW is. But enough, I promised to stop

While the thread seems to be technically offtopic, I think there is some interesting discussions going on here. Provided you don't all get carried away you are more than welcome to air your ideas and comments.
If you want to go into more detail about something specifc then you might consider making a new thread though

Sasi, I don't think that Ryzom will ever be a quest grinder. But it would be nice to see the rites, fame and lore play a bit more importance in the game.
