Staves will give you good dodge bonuses, like daggers. Their damage will be relatively low but they'd be the weapon consuming the less Stamina. It's true that we could think about making staves even more specific. For now though, we prefer to focus on giving more decent stats to every weapons, as a global rework. There's already a lot to do here. :)

Sounds to me like GF have been listening to the players well so far.. and this looks like more evidence of that. Keep up the good work! :)

Cheers Marjo, that's understandable that it would take a lot more work. Once you do that however, could you also look at hand to hand fighting in the future?
These novelty skills, tho fun to some, don't necessarily offer much to enhance gameplay. But that doesn't mean they can't become usefull ever.

Perhaps it's just me that hopes one day to see martial arts competitions; Matis savate, Fyros drunken brawling, Zoraï kung-fu, Tryker ..... err, Trykers emptying pockets of those knocked unconscious. :p

Lightness influencing Malus is something ive been begging for for a long time :D

Another personal goal, is dual wield 1 hand axes, ala the Axe Gang :)

Dagger + any 1 hand weapon would be nice..

and staff also as an off hand parrying weapon

...going right out with the wishful thinking...

1 hand staff as a very weak magic amp.. dual wieldable as above

much as i loathe stereotypes, this is drawing on the imagery of Gandalf fighting with staff and sword, or even the Harry Potter magic wands..

feel totally free not to implement anything which resembles Harry Potter :D

Gandalf's staff is a tad longer and has 100x more sapload for uber cristallized spells ;)

how about implementing clubs/bats (2h staffs) ? and like i said before, give both weapons (staff and club) a critical hit bonus or, instead, a 'knockout' action that paralyses enemy for a few seconds. that would make up a bit for the low damage they give.

There are 2 images.. ideas.. stereotypes.. I am working at.

One is the warrior-wizard with sword and staff, after all, there is a major gap between being equiped for melee and equiped for casting in Ryzom with a token option of using crystalised spells in your melee weapons. Having a "melee" magic amp in the form of a dual wield equipable short staff would smooth out this divide. I beleive it might bring some interesting combat options into the game ;)

The other image.. in my distant youth I trained in a martial arts style which included using 2 short staves ( Arnis ). As such I agree with Meloners increased Crit chance.. I can see it now.. A 2-stick wielding maniac rattling away at another fighter, hitting knees, elbows, knuckles, head.. slowing and disabling them with multiple criticals but no significant damage, until the opponent gets a hit in and kills them :D

Hand to hand skill is one of the best meele skills to train for a few reasons....the pain and suffering one goes thru leveling it up is well worth the rewards in the end. PM if you want a explanation.

+1 on looking forward to stamina consumption depending on lightness and to working modifiers on 1handed weapons. :)

Also +1 that a rework of the 'slow' stanza is needed in a future patch.

I wonder what's wrong with the pike though? The only problem I see with it is that we don't have enough invasions of heavy armored kitin to actually give the 'ignore armor' stanza some good use. :D

And a little off-topic, but could you explain what exactly the reach on weapons does? I've never seen an official explanation of it, just guessing by the players.
