ambika wrote:I read EXACTLY what you wrote and you're wrong. In outlands (shadowmoon valley to be exact) there are winged creatures that fly from above and DO swoop down to attack you. They're not just at head height...they're actually high above....you can't see them unless you're looking upwards (if you play like me and you tend to be viewing everything at around head height).

I'm not arguing Ryzom should have this at all. I prefer Sehraci's post about making it only activated when needed (dammit, I hate walking all the way around a fence to get into yrk. :p ). I honestly don't see how a person would just say no to a game just for the lack of jumping. *shrugs*
Okay, I havn´t gotten that far yet. LvL 19 Hunter ;) *hides*

But anyways, for me it´s not a Game "maker/breaker" if I can jump or not.
While it sometimes gets on my nerves to run around some realtively small obstacle I can live with it.
And I absolutely agree with the lag issue.
If I understand it correctly it would mean ,in order to implement jumping/flying we´d have not only to scale down OP Battles, wich are fun to watch even for a Non-Participant, but also downgrade the Graphics so that the system strain would be lowered, and well... The last thing I want is Ayts in WoW Graphics. *shudder*

When I first read about there being no z-axis I thought it was a step backward in mmo design. However, once in the game, I don't even think about it anymore. There's no much else this game has to offer besides flying that it's gone way, way down on my list of improvements I'd like to see.

I hadn't even thought about the lag issue at all. If z-axis generates lag then I'm against introducing it. I'd much rather be in large battles, PvP or PvE, than to have lag fests in their place.

There is a z axis, otherwise you wouldnt be able to go up hills. Game maps your position in x y z

Just go south of Pyr somewhere, you'll find a real bridge and stuff...

Well... I was thinking that the game hasn't z-axis, but... at least the sound *has* z-axis (you hear from above what is above), and there are bridges. The bridges can be some trick, bu I don't think so...

Very true...I think that's why flying mounts could only be implemented in outlands and the only region that has the swooping enemies is that one zone in outlands.

Also, like you stated, it would need a huge downgrade of graphics...and I personally love Ryzom graphics...much superior to WoW's.

Hmhm, kinda tricky.
I don´t know about the technical side, but I think it´s proof that there in fact must be "some kind" of Z axis, yes.
Because sometimes, if you´re lucky, a Mob will be just in range to fire at it and the spell will go downward. (Mind you, you won´t get XP for that "honorless behaviour" ;) )
In some rare places it´s even possible for someone standing on the bottom of the canyon to heal someone on a ridge above him. (and vice versa)
Mostly the ridges are too high, but in some places it works by a hairsbreadth. ;)

I´d guess that this is an indication of a Z axis, isn´t it?
Because if the Game would only consider 2 Dimensions it would not be possible to do that, right?

Correct me if I´m wrong, please :)

But as I said earlier, even if not, it´s no Problem for me and I don´t quite see any real negative implications behind this.

They'd probly need to revise all the borders of the whole maps to enable jumping over those that can technically be jumped over. Which means a lot of work.
