And yes this is madness. Hosting your own servers? Droping Jolt? If you thought Nevrax sank like a lead brick you ain't seen nothing yet.

A whole 55/1 people voted "aye" to his silly, half-baked plan... 55 people that obviously supported the idea by registering on the site in the first place... I guess these 55 people will be the ones running the new CSR team ?
It just keeps getting scarier...

Re: Xavier's still at it :)
So basically this "Free Ryzom" plan is to make 2 companies:
1) a "non-profit organisation" which makes sure that the GPL and "social contract" is adhrered to
2) Another company that runs the servers
So after we've donated hundreds of thousands of €s to buy the license, we then have to pay for the servers, the subscription (or is it a totally donation-driven thing?), the "small number of employees" of the non-profit organisation, whoever they get to replace Jolt, and who knows what else. Then whatever the "community" comes up with wrt to code additions (but only those who have completed a mentorship as stated in the social contract?) will be integrated onto the "commerical shards" (I guess the ones we're paying for) as well as on any multitude of "non commercial shards"... do I have things about right?

Re: Xavier's still at it :)
If this contract was won, which thankfully I dont think it will due to being so weak I would definatly leave Ryzom. I don't think my heart could take watching my favourite game be quickly destroyed by this ryzom.org project.
I know this is crazy, but I think I'd even prefer SoE over this, as there is actually less chance they would screw it up imo. Naturally SoE is by far a first choice and I couldn't see myself supporting that either

I'm sure he'll buy a sports car and laugh as he drives away. People are actually giving this guy money?
Send some to me while you are at it. I won't promise to do the impossible with it though.
Offering 60k euros for a mmo would get one soundly laughed at. Probably spent more than that on office furniture. Do people think mmos are created and operated out of a garage or something?

Re: Xavier's still at it :)
It's dumm idea.
Let say he gets the money to buy the Ryzom. How to hell he gonna keep the servers running? It's not gonna be free, because they requires Internet connections, servers and all this cost a lot of money too. Not just one time, but monthly based. Do people really think that You can run 10 000's of players servers for free in somewhere?
If they think we players gonna pay the montly, then they need company to handle it and billing systems and so on..
Dreaming is nice untill reality hits the fan.
I'm not even gonna talk about the development the game it self. What can be done by community, but it's gonna be slow as hell.

Re: Xavier's still at it :)
May I just take a little bit your attention and mention that it is not a "Xavier" stuff ?
All right he launched the idea, with the participation of some former Nevrax developpers. If you read the plan proposed, the new concept involves Olivier Lejade, who is among the founders of Ryzom and former president of Nevrax. You might not have heard of Valentin Lacambre, who is now also officially associated to the project, co-funder of the French registrar Gandi and pionner of the free internet in France.
Yes this project is a little bit crazy. It might not be the best and I would personnally prefer a good, reknown company, to buy the Ryzom assets. But what if nothing like such happens ? Ryzom.org is an alternative to the servers shutdown. Is is an alternative to some "fantasy" companies who might buy ryzom without even knowing its background. Or who know it but just don't care.
There is no guarantee it will work on the long term. But it is supported by serious and experimented people. It is supported by an important part of the player community of the Aniro server, a part which values Ryzom for its main forces : role-play and originality.
You think these forces are coming from Jolt. No, they came from people who are now trying to assemble supporters and fund the Ryzom.org project. Obviously, these forums being moderated by Jolt people, you would not consider their reaction as being fully objective. I hope you can appreciate that, even if you like and respect them.

Re: Xavier's still at it :)
It still amuses me the amount of people posting who clearly havent even read anything regarding xaviers project. If you're going to nay say, atleast get your facts right. Instead of waxing lyrical about something you clearly know nothing about.
I dont even want a ryzom.org takeover as first choice, and you're still managing to peeve me off
