One of the big things I'm concerned about is how come we aren't allowed to know who the company is that's looking to take on Ryzom. I can hardly believe that Nevrax would give over their game to a company they don't know the name of. Why hide it? I would like to know the name so I can investigate this new company and its history. I don't want to find myself stuck in a game run by a company I hate or refuse to give money to. Let alone playing a game with a company with a very poor history in customer support or business deals.
But of course, I'm not really knowledgable of what they are allowed/not allowed to tell us. If they are not allowed to tell us by law, then the best I can do is knock on wood. *knocks on her head*

@thefront: Sorry, but that's definitely too much nitpicking for my taste. I doubt that the CSR's know more than what was written in that 400 word epistle*, which sets them in the same position as we are. It simply seems at the moment that there is one month to sort out things, and probably to find out if Ryzom will survive or not. So everyone who loves this game should send a fervent prayer to Jena, Ma-Duk or whatever deity he or her believes in.
*I don't think that the length is of importance. There are books 4000 pages long which say as much, or even less. Hordes of lawyers make a business out of talking or writing endlessly but saying nothing at all.
@runai515: I think it would be rather uncommon to give away a potential buyer, for obviously nothing is assured yet.

I think it is pretty much standard practice to not give details on companies positioning for a take over before they have made an offer. It makes perfect sense that they have not given a company name/names of companies wishing to take over before they make an offer. This happens with many business deals, not just this one.
It is unfair to ask otherwise before there are solid facts, or it can destroy deals before they even start.
As for the news, I am sad. However, I would like to remind everyone that this is the strongest community out there. We have the best damn customer support in the industry with the GMs and definatly one of the best games ever created. We have lived through bad spells, and good spells, we will survive this!
It is sad that this has happened, but we can hope that a new company will come in without debt, and have the funds avaliable to push the game to where it always could and should have been!
It is vital we stick together as a community and show our support for the game, the more we do that, the better the chance of a positive outcome in these dark times.
*huggles to all and especially Nevrax*

Dunno why alot of poeple are acting suprised. I saw the writing on the wall in Feb 2006 when Infinity left game and they were announcing Ring.
MMO's, in particular, are like a flower. They either grow and blossom or stagnate and wilt. As a beta tester of this game I can definately say that Nevrax has taken the latter approach. Approaching the 3 yr birthday of Ryzom (if you count Beta, 2 of the game being Live), what has changed?
In Beta:
French text and <insertfilename.php here> all over the place
Healing was rightfully nerfed at the end of beta
Then the game comes live:
Minor Combat changes (all good imo)
Mounts/Packers
Bomb-style healing and heals finally retweaked for balanced PvP
Retweaked the resistance jewel system
Jewels and Armor finally get restrictions (way overdue) and HP boosts for PvP balance
3-5 Rites added
Almost 15 months later OP's finally come out
That's about it. Pretty short list for 3 yrs of existance. "Stay the course" obiviously didn't work. The voters, umm, I mean, the people who pay subs have spoken pretty loudly by cancelling their subs. Atys used to have alot of poeple. Used to...
The one thing they got right was combat (minus ranged and staves). PvE and PvP combat seem very balanced in my opinion.
Rites (are broken on the backend)
RAID engine (Broken on the backend due to lack of commented coding. Might still work if someone knew how to run it. That guy either left or got canned)
Not fully operational OP's. Missing options that were to be completed later, no deterent for owning 1 or more OP's (see bullet point below).
No Money sinks in game, so the currency is worth less than a Peso. Apts, OPs, GHs would have been great money sinks with payment due at the beginning of every season. (See payment options for all bazaar threads for confirmation of this)
Ring... Maybe 20-25% implemented? Dunno but in it's current state it's hard to get interested in it.
So in the end I applaud this change. Nevrax has never fully implented anything into game that they have touched. Hopefully the next owner of this game will actually be interested in making a game that grows instead of stagnates.
It would be a big big mistake in my opinion if the Jolt/CSR team was not a part of the move. They and the community have been a big part in why I returned to Ryzom.

I agree... everyones freaking out and saying its the worst thing to ever happen... what if the company that buys them actually feels like putting a decent sized dev team on the game? Or invested money in the game?
For all that was Nevrax's idea of a game, very little of it was implemented (think theres at least a couple threads a week about people complaining on what should be in game). Perhaps a company that realizes what Ryzom is about is the one thats interested in buying the game... Lets be honest, if you're a big company looking for quick cash, Ryzom is NOT the game to be buying.

We're all assuming the worst because I imagine a good portion of us have seen what company/dev changes can do to a game. No one has as much love for a world and a game than the one's who created it.
Anyone who's ever played SWG can testify to that. Jena help us all if it's SuckOE in the background
*tries to keep her hopes up because she loves this game*

The "free month" is not free at all.
Existing subscibers have already paid for it. All it means is that they will not charge anyone any more money and one month of service is promised. If you paid more than a month in advance, you not only recieve no free time but stand to lose subscription money beyond the month if this is not sorted favorably.

Let me put it delicately - I really really really hope it's not Sony.
Because if it is, I'll have to reveal to the community my suspicions about Smedley's ancestry, physical attributes and breeding habits.
Worked like a charm to get me an instant permaban on SWG forums.
