There seems to be some confusion over what Ryzom was meant to be...

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Ryzom was meant to be so much... not just a PVP game, but not just a PVE game.

I arrived 2-3 months before the temple wars. I bought into a lot of DCC's vision; aging characters, offspring, other planets, intergalactic war, guild fighing guilds, changing the storyline.

Outposts wasn't supposed to be just drills, they were diplomatic outposts, research centers, strongholds. Guild points hinted about more plans for guilds. There were invasions on a grand scale, sorely missed by (dare I say) everyone.

I welcomed the fame changes, hoped for the spires. Anything to make it feel more complex. I hoped for a character driven changing world that would eventually bloom out into a huge space opera, with the homins caught in the middle - primitive people forced to choose between fighting eachother or unite against bigger threats. I saw Dune, I saw Nausicaä, I saw a saga. So I welcomed PVP, but as it has turned out so far it is too silly to really participate in.

On the contrary - the game gives us options; options for a reason. You can be Kami, or Karavan, or not. All fight the goo, all fight the kitin. The political stuff is flavour, and the option to PvP is there as well. But saying the game was "meant" to be about PvP is taking things a bit too far, IMO. I don't read anything in the opening phrases which states the game is all about killing other people - and even so, it was written ages ago, and the game has changed considerably since then.

What the game actually is, honestly, is subject to the interpretation of the people who play it. And hopefully those same people will get on with playing rather than trying to enforce what they perceive the game is all about on other people..

And well said Ulani as well.

Don't hold on the promised thingies just for the sake of that, accept what you have and go along with it. And if you can make it any better, then go ahead. Try to make those dreams come true, but most of all... have fun!

Swet mother of Jen-Duk do you actually read what I write? I think what you're referring to was my analysis of why, on this server, we have an imbalance and the factors contributing towards it.

Playstyle is one aspect and that is influenced by cultural values.

Off topic though.
Well... you are wonrg. :D

You can actually choose to be part of the outpost fighting or you can choose to have an outpost without fighting - on Leanon we have some guilds who prove just that. They are respected for their rp that doesn't allow them to pvp and whenever their OPs get attacked there comes an ARMY OF HOMINS to defend the outpost at all costs.

You can also choose to flag yourself as "aggro kami" or "aggro karavan", as a homin who has the intention to by force put down any believer of the oposing religion that also flagged himself as a fanatic.

Grim, I suggest you just try to have fun again and the rest will kind of sort out itself. The choice is yours to be made.

I have a suggestion for you, because for the role players we just got this nice little revolutionary tool to make great RP Szenarios, it's called "The Ring". Go and try it, go and have some fun rather than keep on fighting the lost war of "grimjim against the bloddy world of pvp" at the forums which turn them into a battlefield that really doens't support the game and its comunity.

[QUOTE=johntf]Yeah because you dont seem to be the typical pvp player idiot...

I leave the words of your previous game to some you up

Here's my favourite...

SO go shut you, moron...

And as to the topic in question lmao if you think anything said in hype before a mmorpg is released means anything then your once again misinformed about mmorpgs. They said pvp would be a part of ayts not the major part from what I've read.

QUOTE]

Rofl, you take only one of my 4000 posts over there :P
If you go see, there aint a single person being able to prove i exploited.
(because if they ever could prove it i would have been banned ;) )
Not one. Those people you quote are Andrrew and Jas. Jas=the biggest whiner the game has ever seen. Andrrew, the person that consistantly accused me of exploiting.

Il find another post for ya since you so wanna go on about this war.
You quoted 3 people hatin me. Here's 3 that dont.
http://soe.lithium.com/swg/board/messag ... =0#M387172

Proof that i loved pvp back there too.
http://soe.lithium.com/swg/board/messag ... ing&page=2

And just so that you know WHERE AND WHY the xploit accuse came up.
This thread ALSO proves that they could never prove it.
http://soe.lithium.com/swg/board/messag ... ing&page=1

And also, you see there are several really old vets in the game verifying ALL my points for me in both threads. Those two you quoted were after me for about 1-2 years trying to get me busted for **** ingame. never succeded.
So before you try hanging out my past, do the research for real next time.

And btw, you sir. Are a carebear. Those threads only show that i had a attitude and loved pvp. Which i never tried to hide. EVER!QUOTE]

Guess what? We're done with that, finished :) Rebuild almost completed in the "new lands" - we even think about going back to our old lands and there fight the hell out of the kitin to get those lands back at our hands. Whats still missing is the spires that will help defending our new lands while we fight of the kitins in the old lands. YEHA!

See, there is plenty of room for those how only challenge kitins and don't want to challenge other players/homins.

Now... go and play, have fun, goddammit! *hysterical*

Besides: you can really be hired as a merc in op-pvp-battles and still rant about pvp???

...

Really??

Actually, no, we're not done with that. The cities haven't grown, the outposts were supposed to be part of the rebuilding but haven't been. The civilisations haven't actually made any real progress since we started other than temples which had nothing to do with rebuilding the civilisations. The spires are, again, about destruction, taking things away, not adding, not building the civilisations.

Yes, I can really be hired and yet still not particularly like PvP and argue that if we must have it, it should be better and there should be alternate methods to access the PvP content. The participation is part RP, we've played as mercs and rogues pretty much since the start, but also pragmatism, its the only method I have to access the content that has been linked to one style of play.
